INSIDER Remain Calm
ESS Operations Manager, Jacob Shaw loves to walk down the hall and announce: “Remain Calm, People!”, when things get a little hairy around the office. We laugh about this. It is a reminder to us that panic does not make us better, and laughter is good medicine. COVID – 19 has caused panic around the world. It’s the topic of many conversations and most of what we see on the news these days. It’s a dangerous virus and a good rea-son for us to be cautious and to evaluate our methods and procedures for cleaning, hand-washing, meetings, etc. My wife and I just cancelled our long awaited 25-year anniversary trip to Mexico. I want to believe we did this for good reason….travel and quarantine issues, concerns about being out of the country if there is an outbreak in Central Illinois, the unknown of travel bans and flight sched-ules, etc. I hope we made this decision based on wisdom and not fear. While fear compels us to avoid danger, it is a terrible basis for rational decision making. Many people are selling stocks amid the fear of the Coronavirus. This is a fear-based decision and not a rational one. Wisdom indicates we should sell stocks when the market is up and buy stocks when the market is down. Experienced traders are making lots of money as a result of our fears. When we are making fear-based decisions, what are we really afraid of anyway? Are we afraid of suffering? Or death? If we know where we are going when we die, why do we fear death? We know that suffering is almost always temporary, so why do we fear suffering? When my oldest daughter, Grace, was a freshman in high school, she had a lot of anxiety about grades. One night I sat down with her to talk about it. I asked her what she was afraid of and she said, “getting a B”. Then I asked her why she was afraid of getting a “B” and what is the worst that could happen. After our discussion, she came to understand that if she got a “B” or a “C” or a “D” or was kicked out of school, or did-n’t get into college, her parents would still love her, she would still have a warm place to stay and food to eat, and she would still have the choice to be happy.
ESS continues to grow as a result of a GREAT TEAM. Thank you!

Matthew 6:25-27 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”

Spring Cleaning and Organization
Spring is quickly approaching and with spring comes spring cleaning. Please be aware of extra
trash and dusting during this time of the year. Extra trips to the dumpster and heavy trash bags can have
an impact on your budgeted time. Please remember to separate the trash into other bags if they are too
heavy. In many accounts, they like to clean out desk drawers and rearrange their work stations. Please
keep an eye out for extra areas of dusting when this happens. Things that are heavy, like cabinets and
even desks, may have areas that haven’t been cleaned for a while.
Not only does spring cleaning take place in the accounts, it is also good to clean out your janitorial
closet. Closets should be kept neat, clean, and organized. Over time, things seem to collect in the closets
and can cause unnecessary clutter. Please throw away empty chemical bottles and
check your laundry for old, torn towels. You should also pay attention to equipment
from time to time. Please clean up floor signs and carts that can collect dust. Throw
away any items not being used for cleaning purposes. Also, please remember to
scrub out dump sinks on occasion. It is also important to mop the floor in the janitorial
closet once a week. Your closet sets the image for ESS. Please make it a good one.
Staying organized is really important to what we do. It helps us stay efficient and thorough. Keeping your closet and equipment well maintained is just a small part of keeping yourself organized. It is also important to keep our cleaning routines consistent and organized. Hit or miss cleaning can cause issues with the customer and can make it hard on the Area Manager during inspections.

Did you know that the ESS Clean employees that stay the longest were referred by a cur-
rent employee? That’s right! Our statistics show that our most long term hires heard about
the company from our employees. Our best recruiters are YOU! When you go out and tell your family and friends what a great place this
is to work, it makes others want to work here. We appreciate that! If you ever have
someone you’d like to refer to us, don’t hesitate to call your Branch Manager or me.
We your referrals!
