  • What the choices mean:a) A place to meet & visit: This includes gallery opening receptions, facilities rentals for private events such asweddings, community art & plant sales. "A place to meet & Gather"

    b) A way to put Natomas on the City's cultural assets map: This includes attracting and curating world class art and

plant exhibitions and helping to put North Sacramento on the Cultural Assets map. Also helping our community

artists gain the world-class recognition they deserve. "Cultural ambassadors/tourism"

    c) A resource for residents to help improve standard of living & quality of life in North Sacramento: This includes a

focus on helping community members access and retain the equity in their homes by helping them to make repairs

that would otherwise cause financial hardship or displacement. This is an effort to increase housing equity and

improve standard of living for North Sacramento residents. "Tool Library/Resource Hub"

    d) A hub of community activism for local issues: This includes taking a role in educating the community and

advocating for issues of health, education, and environmental justice that effect our community, stat, and the world.

"Urban Greening, Air Quality, Food Insecurity, Education, Advocacy for community priorities"

  • 1591 Newborough Drive ProjectThe Natomas Garden & Arts Club was formed around the idea of bringing a world class art gallery and community

art and garden center to Natomas to bring the city's Arts & Culture movement to the North Sacramento Community.

...it should be...a) A place to meet & visit

    b) A way to put Natomas on the City's cultural

    assets map

    c) A resource for residents to help improve

standard of living & quality of life in North

    Sacramento

    d) A hub of community activism for local

    issues

    Dream about the center...

The group supported all of the goals listed. Therewere calls for a place for residents to sell and

exchange their produce and products. There was alsostrong support for a tool library.

  • Dream BIG!Say you had five years to plan and an

    unlimited budget....

...What would YOU like to see the NGACaccomplish?

Then the teacher, Ms. T, gave us homework...

  • Seeds & Starts

    Getting a Jump on Spring

  • What Seedlings Need:Before Germination:

    Warmth & Moisture

    After Germination:Warmth & Moisture

Light & AirPoor air flow and toomuch moisture canresult in seedlings

    "damping off".Not enough light will

    produce leggy,malnourished seedlingd

  • Other ways to propagate plants:Soft wood cutting can be rooted. Cut a branch and keep the end in moist growing medium or inwater until roots form. High humidity is essential for keeping the plant viable while it develops

roots to carry moisture to the leaves and stem.

Alternatively, branches can be encouraged to root while still attached to the plant by burying part of the branch in growing medium.

I was able to root myspider plant and

(amazingly) a milkweedthis way! I was inspired

by how our marigoldsspread through our

    garden last summer.

  • These are bulbs and otherperennials I was able to separate

and/or harvest off the mother plant

Remember, plants want to grow! Given space, nutrients, light, and water, we can have as many plants as we want!!

This aloe vera is next. I should getseven or eight plants by dividing

this guy. And the plant will behealthier and happier as well!

  • Hardwood cuttings actually are easier than softwood cuttings. Hardwoodperennials include many fruit and flowering trees and shrubs. In winter, whiledeciduous plants are dormant, limbs can be harvested and encouraged to root.

Rooting hormone compounds can help this process. It is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

    1) Choose your cutting: 2) Trim to viable wood forsprouting:

    3) Prepare the cutting forplanting:
