Mageia in dual boot with Windows page. Although that page deals with installing from a fullDVD, which is a longer process with more configuration options than installing from a live CD,sections 1-3 will help you to make the necessary preparations for a dual-boot installation.

If you want to install Mageia alongside Mac OS X, you will need a special program from Apple'sApp Store named Bootcamp (http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/) (add details).

If you will be installing Mageia on the same hard drive as another Linux distro, you have twooptions - you can prepare a partition for Mageia in advance or re-partition during theinstallation process.

Backup copy

Although the installation should proceed without problems if the necessary preparation hasbeen done, it is a good idea to back up all your important files before starting.

Testing before installing

With the media LiveCD or Live DVD, Mageia can be tested on the computer before beinginstalled. Another way to test the Mageia is to use these media to install Mageia in a virtualmachine like VirtualBox (see here)

Main Installation or not (dualboot)

The option to install the boot menu appears under " 'boot device'" (Image 13), where you canchoose: either write the boot menu (Grub Legacy) in the installation root partition Mageia (/dev/sda1) or write the menu on the MBR of the HDD (/ dev / sda).

If Mageia is 'the main installation writes up the Grub boot menu on MBR (/ dev / 'sda), andthis is the menu that will appear when you turn on the computer and will give access to Mageiaor other operating systems that are installed on your computer.

1.

If Mageia is not the primary operating system writes to the boot menu in the root partitioninstallation Mageia (/ dev / 'sda1'). This will preserve the boot menu in the existing MBR, andthen add a needed access to the existing menu Mageia (read about the topic here(http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/setupBootloaderExpert.html) or ask for help in theForum).

2.

Heeding: Mageia 2 uses the "Grub Legacy" and there are other distros that use the "Grub2".Read about the theme here (http://doc.mageia.org/installer/2/en/content/setupBootloaderExpert.html) . Read also about text dualboot with windows (in English) andread the Errata Mageia 2 on dualboot with Grub2 (in English).

In Mageia there is the option to put password for the GRUB menu, as shown in pictures 12 and13, on "Security". However, the default option is left blank. It is recommended to leave thisblank because adding the password does not allow the use of Grub in graphical mode, besides, there are other ways to achieve security in the use of linux

How will the Grub Menu look?

The next window will show how the boot menu (boot) Grub in graphical mode. Changes can bemade later in the Mageia Control Center-CCM, under "Startup and" Configuring SystemStartup ".
