2. Product information2.1 Correct UsageThe suction unit has been designed toproduce a vacuum in order to suck up saliva, rinsing water and other fluids which occurduring dental treatment and which aretransported to the waste water system.Installation in medical facilities:

As far as was possible, all requirementsconcerning Medical Products have been takeninto consideration in the design andproduction of these appliances. Thus, theappliance may be installed in any facilityproviding medical treatment.Where the appliance is set up in a medicalclinic or other facility, then the requirementsdemanded under directive 93/42 EWG as wellas all relevant standards must be observed oninstallation.

2.2 Incorrect UsageAny usage above and beyond that explicitlylaid down in the operating instructions isdeemed to be incorrect usage. Themanufacturer accepts no liability for damageor injury resulting from incorrect use. All risk iscarried by the operator.

2.3 Product DescriptionThe combi-suction unit is a suction unit with anintegrated separation unit. Separation withinthe treatment station (e.g. chair) is no longernecessary. The suction unit separates the fluids and solidparticles sucked up during treatment from theair using a two-step separation system ofcyclone separator and separation turbine. The separation turbine is especially effectiveat preventing fluids and blood foam frombeing sucked into the turbine section of thesuction unit. The fluids sucked up are continually beingrotated at high speed and transported to thewaste system; thus, there is no interruption ofsuction due to the system being too full. The suction system is mounted on rubbermountings, which reduce vibration andoperating noise.

5. Functional descriptionVS 900 as example of principle function

In the suction unit the fluids and solid particleswhich are sucked up are separated from airusing a two-step separation system Thisseparation system consists of a cycloneseparator and a separation turbine. The suction process runs continuously. Theintake mixture of fluid, solid particles and airenters the suction unit via the intakeconnection (D). The coarse filter (B) retains thelarger solid particles. The remaining mixtureproceeds to the cyclone separator (I) and isthen rotated in a spiral action. In this 1st stagethe fluids and any remaining solid particles arethrown against the outer walls of the cycloneseparator by the centrifugal action. Initiallythere is only a "coarse separation“ of thefluids. In the following 2nd stage the separationturbine (J) sets a "fine separation“ into play, inwhich the remaining fluids are now separatedfrom the air which has transported them thusfar. The waste water pump (H) now transports thefluids from the centrifuge together with the finesolid particles to the waste water connection(E) and the central waste water system. The air, now free of any fluids, is transportedto the exhaust air system (C) using thevacuum provided by the action of the turbinewheel (K).The turbinen wheel and the waste water pumpare driven by the motor (L).

In order to separate dental amalgam itis necessary to install an amalgamseparator, e.g. model 7801-07, afterthe waste connection (E).

Should an amalgam separator fromanother manufacturer be fitted, thenthe max. fluid flow rate of thesuction unit must be taken intoaccount.

Installation

7. Set-up7.1 Set-up location• The ambient room temperature must not fall

below 10 °C and should not be allowed torise above 40 °C. The relative humidity mustnot exceed 70%.

• Installation in a purpose-built room, e.g. inboiler room, must be approved before-hand(i.e. observe local regulations).

• Installation in wet rooms is not permissible.

• When installing this unit inside a cabinet orin a machinen room, sufficient air inlet andoutlet openings must be provided; thesemust have a minimum of 120 cm² cross-section.If insufficient ventilation is available then afan must be fitted, this must be able toprovide at least 2 m3/min ventilation flow;additionally, an inlet opening must beprovided for cool air.

7.2 Alternative set-ups• On the same floor as the surgery.

• In a ventilated cabinet (e. g. Dürr PTS 105/195).

• In Dürr-housing (VS 300 S only)as extension to the treatment unit andconnected to electrical floor connection.

• On a lower floor than the surgery.

VS 300 S

When installing the VS 300 S in a cellar orsimilar room, then the unit should be mountedon a platform or on the wall at a height of 30cm above the floor.

7.3 Securing the suction unit• When setting up the suction unit together

with an amalgam separator a floor consoleshould be included.

The suction unit must be at least20 cm above any amalgam separatorwhich is also installed.

• For mounting on the wall we recommendusing the Dürr wall-mounting unit.

Information concerning fitting can befound in the installation instructionswhich are supplied with the floorconsole or the wall-mounting unit.

7.4 Fitting a pressure compensationhose

• For suction units VS 600 and VS 900 theinstallation of a pressure compensation hoseis necessary where an amalgam separator ispresent.

Due to the high rate of fluid flowthrough these units, a pressurecompensation hose is requiredbetween the suction unit and amalgamseparator and serves as intermediatestorage in cases of spontaneous rushof water.

Information on installation can befound in the instructions supplied withthe pressure compensation hose.

7.5 Rinsing Unit It is strongly recommended that a rinsing unitbe added to the suction unit for surgicaltreatment. This enables a small amount ofwater to be fed into the system during suctionwhich serves to dilute the secretions and allowthem to be transported through the systemmore easily. This rinsing unit should either be integratedinto the treatment station itself or can be setup in the vicinity of the suction unit.

Page 14: Installation and operating instructions VS 300 S / VS 600 ...€¦ · The combi-suction unit is a suction unit with an integrated separation unit. Separation within the treatment

14

7.6 Plumbing materialsOnly the following pipe materials may beused:

Vacuum-sealed HT-drain pipe made frompolypropylene (PP), chlorinated polyvinyl-chloride (PVC-C), unplasticized polyvinyl-chloride (PVC-U) or polyethylene (PEh).

Do not use:Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene(ABS) or Styrene-Copolymer blends(e.g. SAN+PVC).

7.7 Hose materialsFor waste water and suction connections useonly PVC flexible spiral hoses with integratedspiral or hoses of equivalent type.

Do not use:Hoses which are not resistant todental disinfectants and otherchemicals, or rubber or PVC hoseswith insufficient flexibility.

7.8 Laying hoses and pipesWaste water connections should becompleted in accordance with the localregulations.

The connection between supply andthe suction unit itself should be kept asshort as possible, be straight withoutbends and carried out with the flexiblehose supplied. This will avoid anyvibration being effected in theplumbing system.

10. Commissioning• Switch on unit or main surgery power switch.

• Check the setting of the motor protectionswitch (see section 4. Technical Data) andadjust if necessary.

• Check direction of motor rotation (at 3/N/PEAC).

• Check function of unit and seals of allconnections.

• Carry out an electrical safety checkaccording to local rules and regulations andrecord the results, e.g. in the technician'sreport.

• Check that the coarse filters are in position(e.g. in spittoon).

The suction unit must not beoperated without installation ofcoares filters, as large particlessuch as tooth chippings or fillingscan lead to damage.

Care

11. CLEANING ANDDISINFECTION OF THESUCTION UNIT

After every patient treatmentFor reasons of hygiene after every singletreatment a glass of cold water should bedrawn up through the larger and the smallersuction hose - even if only the saliva extractorhas been used.

Using the larger suction hose to drawup water causes a larger amount of air(~300 l/min) to be sucked up and thisserves to considerably improve thecleaning efficiency.

Before the mid-day break and at theend of the working daythe Suction Unit should be cleaned anddisinfected by drawing up a suitable cleaningand disinfectant agent, e.g. OROTOL Ultra orOROTOL Plus, as recommended by themanufacturer.

Do not use any foaming agent, e.g.household cleaning agent, instrument disinfection agent orabrasive agent.

Do not use any agent containingchlorine or any thinner, e.g.Acetone. These agents can causedamage to the materials. Guaranteeclaims will become null and void.

Further information is contained in theInstructions for Use “Disinfection andCleaning of Suction Units”, order number9000-605-10/.. as well as in “CleaningInstructions for contaminated Suction Units”,order number P007-235-01.

1x weekWhere the local water is very hard werecommend cleaning the unit once a weekbefore a mid-day break with DÜRR MD 555special cleaner for Suction Units.

12. MaintenanceEvery 4 weeks (or every 3 months for VS600 + 900) the filter located in the air intake ofthe suction unit should be checked and, ifnecessary, cleaned. Remove the suction hosefrom the suction unit. If required, extract thefilter from the suction connections and cleanthoroughly.

Wear non-porous safety gloves!

Every 2 years (VS 600 + 900) the auxiliary airvent should be checked and, if necessary, cleaned.

Every 2 years the exhaust bacterial filter (iffitted) should be checked and, if necessary, cleaned or replaced.

The separation unit in the suctionsystem does not keep back germs.Fitting a bacterial filter into the exhaustair vent is, therefore, stronglyrecommended.

The bacterial filter is supplied with amemo sticker, which can be stuck intothe surgery planner to remindpersonnel when to carry out the filterreplacement.

Every 3–4 years the waste water valve mustbe checked by a technician and, if necessary, replaced.

Wear non-porous safety gloves!

Disposal

13. Appliance disposalThe machine may be contaminated. Please inform the waste disposalcontractors in order that they can takethe appropriate safety measures.

Non-contaminated plastic parts of thesuction unit can be disposed of forrecycling.

The control units, electronic PCB and othercomponents should be disposed of as electricwaste. The remaining metal parts (e. g. turbinehousing) should be disposed of as metallicwaste. If returning the appliance, e.g. to your localDepot or to Dürr Dental, make sure that allconnections are closed.
