RED HAT ENTERPRISES LINUX

6.01. Install or update

an existing system: This is used for directly installing or upgrading our existing system.

2. Rescue from local drive : we will use this option when due to some reason our system has been currepted or if it is not able to boot.

3. Boot from local drive : This is used if we want to boot the system from the drive itself.

NOTE : In this part of the installation we will not

be able to use the mouse. We will have to use

the keyboard for the same.

The purpose of media test is to check the Media from which you are installing RHEL prior to installation

This is done to prevent any kind of error which me affect the installation.

Since I am using the ISO image and there is no problem in the media I will skip this step.

NOTE : The video card has been found. Further

installation will be done in GUI.

Here the

anaconda

installer program

will upload the

video card.

If the video

card is found

then the

installation starts

i GUI.

In case the

video card is not

found the

installation is

menu driven

Select the language you would like to

use during the installation process

Select the appropriate keyboard

language for the system.

What type of device will your

installation involve?

1. Here you have been asked whether you want to install RHEL in the basic storage devices or the specialized storage devices (FCoE, iSCSi, zFCP)

2. Since we are installing it on our home Pc for testing purpose so we chose Basic Storage Devices.

WARNING !!!

The system

needs to be Re

initialised.

But all the

data will be

reinitializing

Since I am

installing it on a

virtual machine.

It will not cause

any harm.

Enter the name you want to give to your system.

This name will identify your system on the network.

Select the city near your time

zone.

Enter the password you want to give to the root.

Root is the administrator of the Red Hat Enterprise

Linux

Which type of partition would you like

?

1. Use all Space : this will delete

all the existing partitions from

your system and will use full

space of the hard disk.

2. Replace Existing linux

System(s) : this option will

remove only the existing linux

system (if available)

3. Shrink Current System : it

will shrink the existing

partition to create free space.

4. Use free space : It will use

only the free space available

on your hard disk.

5. Create custom layout :

Manually create your custom

layout using the partition tool.

Three partitions are needed for

installing Linux.

1. /boot : this is used to

store the boot files in it.

Minimum : 500 mb

recommended : 1 GB

2. / (root) : Mimimum : 9

GB Recommended : 14

GB

3. Swap : It acts as the

virtual memory in Linux .

All the pre-existing partitons will be deleted.

Click on Format.

Install the boot loader on the hard disk

available. Here we have only one disk sda so

we will install the boot loader on it.

The default installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux

is a basic server. We can optionally select a different

set of software now. Here we will use it as a Desktop

computer.

Select all the packages you need to install in your system.

After this click next button.

Now the system will check our hard disk space along with the packages

selected. The installation will start if both are same other wise the

installation process will hault.

The Installation Process is complete .

Reboot your system.

A welcome screen will appear.

Click on forward.

Select “Yes” on the license aggrement.

Click on forward.

Set Up Software Updates

Red Hat

provides you

with software

updates but for

this you will

have to register

on the red hat

network. You

may also have

to pay some

amount for the

services. Click

on forward.

If you want to create a new new user you can

create it here.

This was not available in red hat 5.

Set the date and time

Finish the process.

Log in with the user or root.

Your system is ready and Red Hat Enterprises

Linux 6 has been installed successfully
