Installation Instructions
Thanks for purchasing your new Roofnest! Installation is straightforward in most cases and requires no special skills or tools.
You need a minimum of two
horizontal crossbars that are
recommended to be at least 38” wide
(Sparrow, Sparrow EYE) or 40” wide
(Falcon, Falcon XL, Condor, Condor
XL, Sparrow XL).
The shape of the crossbar (aero,
round, square) does not matter – the
mounting hardware included with
your tent will work for 95% of roof
rack crossbars out there.
Your crossbars must be no more than
4 inches across or 3 inches thick - if
your crossbars are bigger than this
you will need to purchase separate
mounting hardware - email us at
[email protected] and we can
suggest some options.
Your crossbars need to be at least 30”
apart front-to-back and 36”- 42” apart is
optimal. This will properly distribute the
weight of the tent and its occupants.
There needs to be enough clearance
between the roof of your vehicle and the
top of your crossbars to be able to fit your
arm in so you can tighten the mounting
hardware.
We have seen that the stock crossbars on
many makes of vehicle do not provide the
proper clearance to make installation easy
- in these cases an after-market crossbar
solution is recommended - email us at
[email protected] for suggestions.

Installation Instructions

Step5
Step2
Step3
Carefully “unbox” the tent by disassembling the cardboard box it arrives in. Place the Roofnest onto your crossbars. You don’t need to worry about lining up your Roofnest just yet.
Please make sure the ROOFNEST logo faces towards the back of your vehicle.
Set up your mounting hardware by inserting a bolt into a mounting bracket with the bolt head in the channel of the plate (see photo).
It’s easier if you pre-tighten one side of the mounting set so that you don’t have to do that while it’s under your tent.
Remove the plastic film on top, bottom, and all sides of the Roofnest shell (sometimes the film can be difficult to see so look carefully). Your Roofnest is now ready for installation.
TOOLS
Scissors or box cutter to remove pallet straps; do not use on cardboard box as you may inadvertently scratch the tent.
Note: If you’re not immediately installing your Roofnest on your vehicle you should store it in a clean, dry, covered area. Good rule of thumb whenever storing your Roofnest is that you want to store it inside, protect it from the elements, and avoid anything sitting on top of it.
You will need two people that together can lift up to 200 lbs. Do not try to install your tent by yourself.
If you’ll be installing your tent onto a vehicle with low profile/thin OEM crossbars (ex. Subaru Outbacks), please consider adding a “wrap” or layer of dense foam or rubber to the crossbars to increase clearance between the vehicle’s roof and the tent’s bottom.
We suggest buying this product, 2 per vehicle: 2” wide x 5’ long
The first step will be to recover the mounting hardware:
For Sparrows, Sparrow XLs, and Sparrow EYEs, open one side, open one side of the tent and remove the nylon bag containing the mounting hardware and ladder. Remove the small bag of mounting hardware from the nylon bag.
For Falcons and Falcon XLs, the mounting hardware is located within the separate box containing the telescoping ladder.
For Condors and Condor XLs, open the tent and remove the bag containing the mounting hardware. Mounting hardware

Step6
Begin putting the mounting sets into the two mounting rails on the bottom of the Roofnest – two sets for each corner.
You’ll need to lift the Roofnest slightly to get one of the two bolts at each corner onto the other side of your crossbar (see photo).
Step7
Step8
Step9
Place each of the four mounting plates onto the two bolts at each corner and thread the included nuts onto the bolts (see photo) - proceed to next step before tightening all the way).
Now it’s time to orient the Roofnest so that it is centered where you want it. If the mounting hardware is loose then you should be able to move the Roofnest so that it is lined up on your roof where you want it.
Tighten all the mounting hardware hand tight. Drive your car 10-20 miles and check all the nuts to make sure they are still tight - sometimes the Roofnest will shift and so you may need to orient before you tighten again.
