Preparation Before Installation

1. Review a copy of the final approved shop drawing(s) and/or submittal package. These documents will provide you with technical information specific to your installation, such as:

• Equipment types and quantities

• Room numbers and locations

• Shop drawings of each unit type

• Wiring diagrams and rough-in locations

• Blocking locations

IMPORTANT: Before installation of units, make sure the blocking required for mounting the headwall is installed at locations indicated on shop drawings.

WARNING: All wiring must be completed per the National Electrical Code and/or local electrical codes by a licensed electrician.

2. Prepare the tools and hardware needed to complete the installation. Some common tools that may be required are:

• Cordless drill/driver with common drill or drive bits

• Hammer drill with masonry bits (for installing hardware into concrete)

• Hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, clamps, pliers, etc.)

• Laser- or Bubble-level

• Ladder(s)

• Jigsaw or reciprocating saw

3. Prepare the Existing Room:

• Shut off medical gas supply to room via zone valve (if installing Gas Outlet Retro-fit Kits)

• Cut power to room circuits via breaker panel(s)

• Remove existing medgas front assemblies (Figure 1)

• Remove electrical devices including existing overbed lights.

• Install Gas Outlet Retrofit Kits into the existing med gas outlets.

NOTE: (If applicable) Filler Panels (scribes) are sent with this unit and will need to be trimmed on site to fit between unit and wall/ceiling. Please be sure to have necessary tools.

Refer to the shop

drawing for the correct dimensions

Method 1 - Single Hanging Bracket1. Remove panels.

IMPORTANT: See Page 10 for panel removal and handling instructions.

2. Mark horizontal line below finished ceiling line (Refer to the height indicated on shop drawings). This line will be used to locate drilling for mounting of hanging bracket on the wall.

3. Align bracket horizontally according to Unit mounting location (Refer to drawings). Mount the bracket on the wall using hardware compliant to local building codes (Supplied by others). Use mounting line from step 2 to locate mounting holes vertically.

IMPORTANT: Ensure hanging bracket is secured to the wall studs or blocking behind the drywall using screws (provided by others).

NOTE: Dimensions above finished floor for lower Headwall support vary for each type of headwall. Please contact Amico if exact dimensions are required for blocking purposes.

4. Lift the middle unit and hang it over the brackets which are already installed on the wall, then the left unit, prior to installing the right unit (Figure 3).

Installation - Method 1

7. Make all electrical and piping connections.

WARNING: Make the necessary high-voltage and low-voltage electrical connections by a licensed electrician.

NOTE: Medical gas hoses are terminated as per shop drawings.

8. Bring the pre-installed conduits to the existing electrical device boxes by passing them through the openings between the Frames.

9. Connect the medical gas:

• Some units come with Gas Outlet Retro-fit Hose Assemblies pre-installed. The ends of these Hose Assemblies have gas-specific adapters meant to plug into the existing medgas outlets (Figure 8).

Figure 8 Retro-fit Adapter (if applicable)

WARNING: Retro-fit Adapters are gas-specific and will only fit into the appropriate rough-in. DO NOT modify any components to insert the Adapters, or try to force the Adapters into the rough-ins.

WARNING: Orient and secure gas hoses so that they do NOT create a “valley” (i.e., A “U”-shape).

10. Attach all removed items:

• Panels (must clip in properly where applicable)

• Devices, extension rings and cover plates

NOTE: If the Panel has openings for devices, pull the devices through the openings before clipping the Panel onto the Frame.

IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten the medgas cover plates.

11. Reinstall the rails.

IMPORTANT: (If Applicable) Install the Vertical Tracks onto Frames with screws. Reinsert the Vinyl Strip into the Track to cover the Screws (Must use the hardware provided to reinstall the rails).

Installation - Method 2

Method 2 - NuLook with Steel Base1. Remove Laminate panels from Headwall (Using suction cup provided by Amico).

IMPORTANT: See Page 10 for panel removal and handling instructions.

2. Attach the hanging brackets to the top crosses designated for hanging brackets. Use the number of screws listed below based on section size:

a. 19" to 32" wide section = 2 screws

b. 32.1" to 48" wide section = 4 screws

IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten the screws – these screws will be tightened more once the unit is attached to the wall.

3. Install the aluminum base, flush against the wall and floor (ensure base is leveled).

NOTE: Use hardware compliant to local building codes.

4. Rest the middle unit in the final location on the base. Secure the bottom of each frame onto the base using hardware provided by Amico.

5. Repeat Step 3 for the left unit and then the right one.

6. Connect sections using bolt nut connections (see Step 6 of Installation - Method 1).

7. Secure the unit to the wall through the hanging brackets on the top.

NOTE: Use hardware compliant to local building codes.

8. Continue with Steps 8 to 11 of the Installation - Method 1.
