Should the fuse need to be replaced, please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 5amps. and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Precautions

The following precautions are recommended to extend the life of the unit:

≥ Special care should be taken to protect the unit if it is used in a less than optimum environment, such as a dusty or sandy area.

Prior to scanning, remove all sta-ples and paper clips from pages.

Do not place any liquids near theunit.

—Accidental spillage of liquid intothe unit may cause severe dam-age. If this occurs, turn the unitoff, unplug the power cord andcall for service.

Do not place books, paper, or otheritems on the unit.

Do not place the unit in an area where there is a lot ofsmoke, dust, chemical fumes or vibration.

Do not leave the power cord plugged into the AC outletif the unit will not be used for an extended period.

Do not place the unit on an unevenor unstable surface.

Do not disassemble the unit.This will void your warranty.

Stop operation immediately if theunit emits smoke, excessive heat,abnormal smell, or unusual noise.These conditions can cause fire orelectric shock. Immediately unplugthe power cord and call for service.

Do not insert your fingers into the back opening in thescanner.

It is recommended that if the scanner has to be moved,at least two people carry it.

Operating Environment

≥ Power Source≥ Use a voltage level that does not vary more than d10% from the voltage level marked on the nameplate

(located on the back side of the scanner).≥ Do not use an extension cord.≥ This scanner should be connected to a grounded outlet.≥ Do not use a line conditioner, transient suppressor or surge protector.

Do not place the unit in direct sunlight or in a cold draft. Do not operate or place the unit in a vertical position.

Do not place the unit near a heating appliance or an airconditioning vent. Do not place the unit in a room withextremely high or low humidity.

Do not place the unit near other appliances which gen-erate large electrical noise.

Do not place the unit on a carpet. (Static electricity cancause the unit to malfunction.)

∫ Installing the Exit tray stopper and Exit stopperSqueeze the end of the exit tray stopper metal guides slightly together, and insert them into the stopper slots of the exit tray. Then pull up the plastic part of exit tray stopper.(Install the exit tray stopper in the sequence of 1 through 3.)

∫ Connecting cables≥ Connect either the USB or SCSI interface cable. Do not connect USB and SCSI cables at the same time.≥ Windows NT 4.0 supports only the SCSI interface.

SCSI ConnectionYou will need to purchase a SCSI cable from your local computer store or dealer.

Caution:≥ Use only with the power cord that is supplied by the manufacturer.≥ It is recommended you use a SCSI cable 3 m (9.8 feet) or less in length that is obtained locally.≥ Set the power switch on the scanner and on the host computer to OFF before connecting the interface cable.≥ If a problem occurs, refer to “Troubleshooting” in the Operating Instructions (CD-ROM).

*1 Windows 98 is Microsoft Windows 98 operating system.*2 Windows Me is Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition operating system.*3 Windows 2000 is Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.*4 Windows XP is Microsoft Windows XP operating system.

≥ 1 GB or more free space is required in the HDD.≥ Color images larger than A3 size cannot be scanned in 600 dpi on Windows 98 or Windows Me. A large size color

image may not be scanned in high resolution depending on a computer system or application.≥ The scanning speed differs depending on the host computer operating environment or application.≥ Windows NT 4.0 does not support USB interface.≥ For Windows NT 4.0, you must install the ASPI layer software that the SCSI board vender provides.≥ Use USB 2.0 interface because scanning speed of USB 1.1 interface is slow.≥ If you connect the scanner to a USB hub, it is not guaranteed to work.≥ When using the scanner with other SCSI devices connected by daisy chain connection, it is not guaranteed to

work.

∫ Power turn-on sequence

1 Turn on the power of the scanner.

≥ Set the power switch to the “|” position.(The LED and LCD will now light.)

2 When “Ready” appears on the LCD display, turn on the power of the host computer.

∫ About the language setting≥ Select English, German or Japanese as the language which is to appear on the LCD display.≥ The language setting mode is appeared automatically when the unit’s power is turned on for the first time after

the unit was purchased. English is the default language.

1 Turn the power on while pressing theHOME key.

≥ When “High Speed Scanner” or otherwords appear on the LCD, release theHOME key.

2 Use the 2 key or the 1key to select“English Letter”, “English A4”, “Deutsch A4” or “ ”.

3 Press the HOME key.

≥ The display will change to the selectedlanguage, then the scanner will be ready.

≥ This setting will remain until it is changedto another setting.

2 Insert CD-ROM to your computer.

3 Quick menu-software runs automatically.

4 Select your scanner.

5 Select Device Driver.

6 Follow the instructions on the screen.

7 Connect the scanner and turn on the power.(For SCSI connection, restart your computer.)

8 Follow the instructions of the hardware wizard to complete the installation.

∫ Install the TWAIN / ISIS driver1 Insert the CD-ROM in your computer.

2 Quick menu-software runs automatically.

3 Select your scanner.

4 Select TWAIN driver or ISIS driver.

5 Follow the instructions on the screen.

∫ Install RTIV1 Insert the CD-ROM in your computer.

2 Quick menu-software runs automatically.

3 Select your scanner.

4 Select RTIV.

5 Follow the instructions on the screen.

Even if the screen ‘Digital Signature was not found for this driver’ or ‘has not passed Windows Logo testing···’appears, continue installation.

≥ For Windows 98 usersIf “Please insert the disk labeled ‘Windows 98 CD-ROM’” is displayed, insert your Windows 98 CD-ROM and follow the instruction on the screen.

∫ DIMM module extensionKV-S3105C is equipped with 256 MB memory on the interface board. KV-S3085 in equipped with 64MB memory onthe interface board. However, additional memory is required for scanning A3, color, double side images with 600 dpi,for example.To determine how much optional memory is required, refer to “Section 3.4 Image Type” of the PIE Reference Man-ual.

2 Remove the four screws.

≥ These screws are used in step 2 of the“Installing the interface board.”

3 Remove the interface board by pullingon the handle.

≥ Be sure not to insert your hand into theunit when removing the interface board.Injury may result.

¥ Installing the DIMM module

Insert the DIMM module into the connector onthe interface board (1), then push it until it clicksinto place.

NOTE:≥ Be sure that the module notch is to the left side, or

the DIMM module will not be in the proper position.≥ To remove the DIMM module, pull the tabs at both

sides of the connector.≥ Do not touch any electrical components on the

surface of the board to avoid static electricity.

1 Insert the interface board into the unitalong the rails and push it in firmly.

≥ Confirm that the interface board plate isfully inserted until it firmly locks in place.

2 Secure the interface board with thefour screws.

Repacking Instructions

It is highly recommended that you keep the original carton and ALL packing materials. If you need to transport orship your scanner, please follow these instructions:

≥ Use the original carton and all of the original packing materials.≥ Improper repacking of the scanner may result in a service charge to repair the unit.≥ The scanner should be handled in the correct (horizontal) position.

1 Disconnect your scanner from the electrical outlet and the interface cable.2 Remove the exit stopper and exit tray stopper from the scanner.3 Pack the scanner.

≥ To avoid damage due to the weight of the unit, the unit should be shipped with the pallet tightened by the plastic bands.
