LINUX MINT requirement :

It really depends on what desktop you want to use.  It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop experience more comfortable to use.

The purpose of Linux Mint requirement is to produce a modern, well-designed and comfortable operating system which is both powerful and easy to use

The System requirements for Linux mint require:

512MB RAM (1GB recommended for a comfortable usage). 9GB of disk space (20GB recommended). Graphics card capable of 800×600 resolution (1024×768

recommended). DVD drive or USB port.

Requirement(cont.)

One of the best feature of linux mint 18 requirement is Cinnamon which requires only

512MB of RAM, 5GB free HDD space and a 700MHz CPU to run with a minimum resolution of 800x600. KDE, on the other hand, requires 2GB RAM, 10GB HDD space and the

same CPU clock speed to operate at a minimum resolution of 1024x768.

Hardware requirement:-

If we conceder an alternative for Windows 8.x or 10, then Linux Mint is definitely a good choice!

Linux Mint is derived from Ubuntu Linux (Ubuntu is being used as raw material) and is squarely aimed at the home user

Ease of use is first and foremost. It's just as easy to operate as Windows 7, and a lot easier than Windows 8.x or even 10.

Linux against window XP

lightweight Xfce edition of Linux Mint is an excellent alternative operating system. Very easy and simple to operate; Linux Mint Xfce is the ideal alternative for the Windows XP on your computer.

Firstly open the “Vmware”and click on the “Create a new virtual machine” tab..

After clicking on “create new virtual machine” the below screen shown on which select “Typical” and press next..

Here we select select” I will install the operating system later and press next..

Here we select Guest operating system “Linux” and version “Ubuntu-64-bit.

Gave the name to your os as “Linux_mint_18=Cinnamon” and press next..

Here fix the disk size like ”20 GB or More” and select virtual disk as single file” press next..

Here “Customize Hardware”Select “New CD/DVD and browse and select iso file..

Here we browse and select Required “ISO” file..

After selection,remove unwanted hardwares and press close..

After “Customize Hardwares” press finish.. Now your required virtual machine is created

and press “Power on this virtual machine”

Now in this window your “Linux Mint boot in few seconds”.. Now double Click on “Install Linux Mint”

Here select Language and press continue…  Then prepare to start the actual installation process, you can check the check-box in

the screen below to install third-party software for graphics, Wi-Fi hardware, flash, MP3 plus many other media. After that, click on the “Continue” to proceed.

Here check the check_box “ Erase disk and Istall Linux Mint and press contine..

Here select your city or region and press continue..

Here select the keyboard Layout and press continue.. Here fill the some info like “Username,System

name and Password etc..” and press continue..

Here Installation start and copying files and other process takes place.. After Installation the following menu pop up

which ask for “Restart Now”press on it..

Now the following Login screen comes so enter the password to enter into it.. Now it shows that the installation has completed

and now your system is ready to use..

Basic Commands of Linux Mint

Navigation:

pwd – print working directory cp –avr <path to source directory/file> <path to destination

directory/file> - copy directory / file mv <path to source directory/file> <path to destination

directory/file> - move directory / file mkdir <directory name> - create directory touch <filename> - create / update file rm –rf <directory / file name> - delete directory / file locate <file name> - search the system for the specified file name

User Management:

adduser <new user name> - create a new user deluser <existing user name> -remove-home – remove a user with

user’s home directory addgroup <new group name> - create a new group delgroup <existing group name> - remove a group passwd – modify password who – shows list of logged in users

System:

hostname - displays the hostname of Linux Mint/Ubuntu system. uptime - displays how long the system has been running. ps – lists all the processes running in the system top - real-time information about Linux system uptime, number of users, system load,

number of tasks, and utilizationof system resources kill -9 <pid> - kills the process with the specified process id killall proc – kills all processes named proc* uname –a - name, kernel version, machine type, network node host name, processor

type, OS release, OS version andother system architecture details

System:

df –h – display file system and disk space usage free –m – display amount of free and used system memory lspci – lists all PCI buses and devices connected to them lsusb – lists all USB buses and devices connected to them lshw – lists hardware present in the system including information about

manufacturer, device type and where it is

Networking:

ping <website/ip address> - to test connectivity or response from a particular IP address or website

traceroute <website/ip address> - trace the network path to a website or IP address.

ifconfig - displays list of all network interfaces iwconfig - displays list of all wireless network interfaces

Power:

poweroff – powers off the system reboot – reboots the system
