WATER PIPING
All factory installed water piping terminates insidethe unit. Multi-condenser units feature manifoldedsingle water in and out connections.
Note: Water connection fittings are threaded cop-per. Use caution when tightening steel pipe intocopper fittings. Always use a backing wrench onthe hex fittings inside the unit.
It is recommended that flexible connectors be pro-vided on the water supply and return lines if noiseand vibration transmission could be a problem.
Water piping should include shutoff/balancingvalves so that the unit can be serviced withoutshutting down and draining the entire water supplycircuit. Since units are piped in parallel piping cir-cuits, the shutoff valves may be used to equalixethe pressure drop to each branch for even con-denser water distribution. A bibcock or a pluggedtee fitting should be installed between the shut-offvalves and the unit in both the inlet and outletpipes. These connections are to provide for acidcleaning of the condenser, if this should becomenecessary.

CONDENSER PRESSURE CONTROL
Water regulating valves provide control of thequantity of condenser water supplied to the unit bysensing the condensing temperature. The factoryinstalled Condenser Pressure Control option pro-vides a regulating valve for each internal con-denser water circuit.
The water regulating valve needs to be adjustedto maintain a leaving water temperature between90 degrees F and 100 degrees F. If using a refrig-erant discharge pressure gauge, adjust the watervalve to maintain a condensing pressure or 170 to220 PSIG. The valve is adjusted by turning the 1/4inch square shaft on top of the spring housing.Turning the adjusting screw counter clockwise willraise the opening pressure and raise the condens-ing pressure being maintained. Turning the adjust-ing screw clockwise will lower the opening pointand lower the condensing pressure being main-
tained. If mains water is being used, make surethe valve closes soon after the compressor stops. If the flow does not stop after a few minutes, raisethe opening pressure by turning the adjustingshaft caunter clockwise until the flow stops.
If the unit is running on mains water, we recom-mend adjusting the water regulating valve to give100 degrees F leaving water temperature or 220PSIG condensing temperature. This will give thebest compromise between low water flow andhigh operating efficiency. If the condenser water isbeing re-circulated through a cooling tower or achilled water system, it is recommended that thewater regulating valve to set for a lower condens-ing temperature. This will provide higher effi-ciency, lower operating cost and lower soundlevel. The minimum condensing pressure requiredfor satisfactory expansion valve operation is 170PSIG. This corresponds to a leaving water tem-perature of 90 degrees F.

DUCTWORK
When installing ductwork, adhere to local Codesand sensible practice. Minimize duct runs andavoid abrupt changes in direction where possible.Allow ample access space for servicing of thecoils and changing of filters. Perform regularmaintenance on ducts to increase unit life, main-tain efficient operation, and reduce accumulationof explosive dust. Refer to blower performancecharts, and engineer duct runs and accessorypressure drop so as not to exceed maximumexternal static values.
Canvas or other types of flexible collars are rec-ommended for connecting the air ducts to the unit. The supply air duct collar can be connecteddirectly to the blower outlet flanges. Return airmay be ducted to the unit, or drawn directly fromthe conditioned space (5-15 ton models withoptional return air grille) or mechanical room (20and 25 ton models). If a ducted
return is desired, duct connection flanges may besecured directly to the air intake opening of the 5through 15 ton units -filters are accessible fromthe right hand side. The filter frame on 20 and 25ton models has duct attachment flanges incorpo-rated into the filter rack.
SUPPLY AIR/RETURN AIR CONFIGURATION
All models are field convertible for multiple supply/return configurations. The 5 through 15 ton mod-els feature a removable upper fan module thatcan be rotated 180° for top rear discharge applica-tions. In addition, the blower outlet panel may beinterchanged with the front panel of the fan mod-ule. Interchanging these two panels allows hori-zontal fan discharge to either front or rear of theunit.
The blower outlet panel may also be interchangedon the 20 and 25 ton units to provide horizontaldischarge.

EVAPORATOR BLOWER DISCHARGECONVERSION
All models can be field converted to the alternateevaporator discharge orientation. All models shipwith vertical fan discharge as standard.
Procedure for converting the fan discharge fromvertical to horizontal is similar on all models, sin-gle fan or dual fan.
a. Remove blower drive belt on all models with basemounted motors. Remove the complete fan motorand drive on models with blower mounted motorassemblies.
b. Remove the panel attachment screws on the alter-nate location access panel (front evaporator sectionpanel on 20 and 25 ton, front blower module panelon others ). On 5 through 15 ton units, the front roofsupport angle must be removed to allow access tothe front panel. Remove the panel and set aside.
c. Remove the panel attachments screws on theblower outlet mounting panel. Do not remove fasten-ers securing blowers to panel! The blowers are toremain attached to the mounting panel at all times.
d. Carefully remove the blower panel assembly fromthe evaporator cabinet. Do not allow blower hous-ings to contact the evaporator coil during theremoval. On some models, the housing(s) will haveto be "rotated" to exit through the panel opening.
e. Interchange the blower panel assembly with theposition of the alternate access panel. Exercise carein locating the panel. Do not allow blower housingsto contact the evaporator coil. Install the attachmentscrews and tighten securely.
f. Install the blank access panel into the remainingevaporator opening. Fasten securely.
g. Relocate the evaporator fan drive motor to the alter-nate location on 5 through 15 ton unit.
h. Install and adjust drive belts to appropriate tension.Test run blower and observe operation for unusualsounds or vibration.
In order to utilize the 'rear vertical' or 'rear horizon-tal' discharge on 5 through 15 ton models, theupper fan module must be rotated.
a. Disconnect power wiring at motor terminal box.
b. Remove corner connecting brackets which securethe blower module to the lower evaporator unit.
c. Carefully lift the blower module, and rotate 1800.Reposition the blower module on top of the evapora-tor/compressor unit. Reinstall the corner connectingbrackets.
d. Connect new power wire leads, from the evaporatormotor contactor in the electrical box to the motor ter-minal box. Ensure wires are routed clear of anymoving components. Secure the wiring so that itdoes not contact the evaporator coil.
ELECTRICAL WIRING
Follow local electrical codes when making electri-cal connections. Units are completely factorywired for normal supply voltages (ie.208-230, 460,575/3phase/60hz) Confirm unit specifications bychecking unit data plate. All electrical componentsare accessible through an independent electricalpanel located on the right hand end of the evapo-rator/compressor section. The electrical controlboxes are located behind outer access panels. The compressor section electrical cover is pro-vided with wiring diagrams on the inside, whichmust be opened to be read.
Provide individual power disconnects for eachunit. Install a secure ground to the bonding luglocated in the electrical control panel. If canvasflexible joints are used on ductwork, install aground wire to the ductwork as well.

MOTOR AND PULLEY DATA
TABLE 6: STANDARD BLOWER MOTOR AND DRIVE DATA
TABLE 7: OVERSIZE BLOWER MOTOR AND DRIVE DATA
BLOWER SPEED ADJUSTMENT
The RPM of the supply air and condenser airblowers will depend on the required CFM, and thestatic resistances of both the supply/dischargeand the return/intake duct systems. With this infor-mation, the RPM for the blowers can be deter-mined from the blower performance tables.Adjustment of blower speed is accomplished asfollows:
a. Loosen belt tension by moving motor towards theblower shaft via the adjustable mounting.
b. Loosen the setscrew in the adjustable motor pulleyflange. Remove external key on pulleys 4 in. dia andlarger.
c. Slower speed will increase when moveable flange isadjusted towards the fixed flange (closed). Blowerspeed will decrease when the moveable flange isadjusted away from the fixed flange (opened). Pul-leys are adjustable only in half-turn increments. Donot open pullev more than five full turns for "4L" and"A" belts. or six full turns for "B" belts.
d. Once the pulley has been opened/closed the appro-priate number of turns, replace the external key andtighten the adjustment setscrew. Proper torque is110-130 in.-Ibs.
e. Install drive belt and adjust motor mount to tensionbelt.
START-UP AND OPERATION
Start unit and check rotation of fans and compres-sors.
Scroll compressors will only compress in one rota-tional direction. Three phase compressors willrotate in either direction depending upon phasingof the power. Since there is a 50-50 chance ofconnecting power in such a way as to cause rota-tion in the reverse direction, it is important toensure proper rotation direction is achievedwhen the system is installed and operated.
Verification of proper direction is made by observ-ing that suction pressure drops and dischargepressure rises when the compressor is energized.Reverse rotation also results in an elevated sound

level as well as substantially reduced currentdraw.
There is no negative impact on durability causedby operating three pase Scroll compressors in thereversed direction for a short period of time (underone hour). However, after several minutes of oper-ation, the compressors internal protector will trip.
If opposite rotation is needed, disconnect andreverse any two leads of the three phase supply.Reconnect power and observe for correct rotation.
Observe unit operation and check for unusualnoise or vibration.

MAINTENANCE/SERVICE
FILTERS
Inspect filters monthly and replace as necessary.Use UL Class 2 rated filters. Factory supplied fil-ters are medium efficiency, extended surfacepleated type. Replacements should be of thesame type, to maintain optimum airflow perfor-mance.
EVAPORATOR AND CONDENSER COILS
Inspect the evaporator coil at filter change inter-vals. Inspect the condenser coil at least semi-annually. A dirty condenser coil will result in ele-vated condensing pressures and poor unit perfor-
mance. Dirty or clogged evaporator coils causeslow suction pressure and lost capacity. If the coilsappear dirty, clean them using mild detergent or acommercial coil cleaning agent.
BLOWERS
Inspect both the evaporator and condenser blow-ers at each regular service interval. Clean blowerwheels as needed. Bearings are permanentlysealed ball type, and do not require lubrication.Check bearings for any signs of wear ( movementbetween inner and outer races ). Ensure bearinglocking collars are secure to the shaft, and thatcollar locking screw is properly set. Check that theblower wheel is tight on the shaft, and that the hubset screws are properly torqued.
DRIVE BELTS
Examine belts periodically for wear. Glazed areason the drive surfaces indicate overheating due tobelt slippage. Ideal tension is the lowest tension atwhich the belt will not slip under peak load condi-tions. Over-tensioning shortens belt and bearinglife.
The tension on the belt should be adjusted for adeflection of 1164 of an inch per inch of belt span, with the appropriate force applied at the midpointof the span. Tension "New" belts at the maximumvalue indicated. Used belts should be maintainedat the minimum value.
REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT(S)
With the unit operating, check and record thecompressor discharge and suction pressures. Thecompressor running current should also be
recorded. A maintenance 'og of these readingscan indicate if the unit is operating within it's nor-mal limits. Abnormal readings should be investi-gated, and the Cause corrected.
DISCONNECT AND LOCK OUT POWER WHENSERVICING UNIT. FAILURE TO DO SO MAYRESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATHDUE TO ELECTRICAL SHOCK.
Exercise care when working around the sharpmetal edges of door panels or door frames, etc. These edges can cause injury.
