3. Installing/Registering ArcGIS Extensions: Extensions provide you with additional GIS functionality. Most extensions are optional products that are registered or licensed individually.

• If you chose to do a Complete installation type, all the extensions have already been installed, so you would not need to install the extensions separately.

• If you opted for a Custom installation type, you might have chosen to install only a few of the

extensions. If you decide you would like to install more extensions after the software has already been installed, please follow the instructions below on how to Modify your installation.

• If you selected the Typical install type, none of the extensions have been installed. If you decide

at a later date to purchase or evaluate any extensions, please follow the instructions below on how to Modify your installation.

NOTE: This section is designed for the user who has elected to buy an ArcGIS Desktop extension after the software has been installed. As such, you will be required to register it There are two methods for installing ArcGIS Desktop extensions on your computer. You can Modify your current ArcGIS installation or if you are installing the software from scratch, you can do a Complete installation (as outlined on page 5) to ensure that all features are installed on the computer without having to modify the program. 1. Make sure you have write access to the installation location, and that no one is accessing it. 2. Download the appropriate files to a location other than the installation folder (e.g. Desktop)

3. Double-click the msp file (e.g. ArcGISDesktop92sp5.msp) to start the install process.

6. Frequently asked questions about installing/registering ArcGIS 9.2 (FAQ): Q1: If my ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop (ArcView Single Use) is licensed for more than one computer can I use the same authorization file to register on another computer? A1: Yes. Once the UNK number(s) have been registered with ESRI and you have been emailed an authorization file, you have the ability to transfer (via a flash drive or USB key) the authorization file to any computer you wish. Q2: Can I install ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop (ArcView Single Use) on a computer running Windows Vista? A2: Yes. With the release of ArcGIS service packs #4 and 5, ArcGIS Desktop can run on Windows Vista. To download the most recent service pack for ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop, go to: http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=downloads.patchesServicePacks.viewPatch&PID=17&MetaID=1409 Q3: Can I install ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop (ArcView Single Use) over a network? A3: Yes. Each school’s network is different and so it would not be possible for us to suggest the best possible solution for installing over the network. NOTE: Installing ArcGIS 9.2 over a network is a highly specialized task that is typically reserved for IT

staff either at the individual school or at the school board level. To help assist with the installation, a technical paper is available to provide information on deploying ArcGIS and Service Packs. This paper discusses the deployment of ArcGIS 9.2 setups and Service Packs using Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) and Group Policy, including additional system requirements, suggestions, known issues, and Microsoft Software Installation (MSI) command line parameters. Deployment in a lockdown environment is also covered. Download the technical paper here: http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.whitepapers.viewPaper&PID=43&MetaID=1216 Q4: Is there an easy way to install ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop (ArcView Single Use) on many computers without a network? A4: No. Without a network in place to install the software on multiple computers, the installation process will need to take place on a case by case basis. However, when registering the software, depending upon the license you have purchased, you may be able to transfer a preexisting authorization file to multiple computers (See Q1/A1 above). Q5: I don’t have internet access from home, is it possible to register the software without the internet? A5: Yes. Registering the software without the use of the internet can be completed via phone by contacting ESRI Canada’s Customer Service department at: 1 (800) GIS-XPRT (447-9778). A customer service representative will then register the software for you. You will however, still need access to the internet because just as in the registration process mentioned above, an email will be sent to you.
