GAMEOVERVIEWInstantTeambuildingmakesteambuildingfun,easy,andengaging!Thesoftwarecomesloadedwith20setsofready-to-use,fun-to-discussquestions.Teammatesbuildbondsastheygetbetteracquainted,havefun,andcelebrateeachother.Youcanmodifythequestionsprovided,aswellassaveyourownquestionsets.Thesoftwareincludestwostep-by-stepteambuildingstructures:1)Spotlight,and2)TimedRoundRobin.ThetwostructuresaredescribedbrieflyhereandinfulldetailintheHowtoPlaysection.GameSetup:Connectyourcomputertoaprojector,televisionmonitor(s),oraninteractivewhiteboardsoallstudentscanseethegame.SelectasetofInstantQuestionsorsaveyourownset.Nowyou’rereadytoplay.TeamSize:BothSpotlightandTimedRoundRobinaredesignedtoplayinteamsoffour.Studentsmayalsoplayinteamsofthreeandfive.Divideyourclassintoteamsoffour.Ifthereisoneextrastudent,makeoneteamoffive.Iftherearetwoextrastudents,maketwoteamsofthree.Iftherearethreeextrastudents,makeoneteamofthree.

SpotlightWhowillbeselectedtobeunderthespotlight?InSpotlight,oneteammateisrandomlyselectedtostandandanswerthequestioninfrontoftheteam.Whendoneanswering,teammatescelebratethespotlightedstudent.

TimedRoundRobinTeammateseachreceiveanequaltimedturntoshareoralresponsestothepostedquestionorproblem.Oneteammateisrandomlyselectedtosharefirst.Whentime'sup,thenextteammatetakesaturn.Turnscontinueinsequenceuntileveryonehasshared.

StoredQuestionData:TechnicalNoteThequestionsyouenterandsaveareallstoredonasmallpreferencefileonyourcomputer.Thisfileislinkedtothegameapplicationbythenameandlocationoftheapplicationonyourcomputer.Ifyourenametheapplication,moveitonyourcomputer,ormoveittoanothercomputer,youwillbreakthelinkanditwillappearlikeyourgamesarelost.Toavoidbreakingthelink,donotrenameormovetheapplicationafteryousavequestions.Ifyoubreakthelinktoyourquestions,youmayrestoreyourquestionsbyrestoringtheapplicationtoitsoriginallocationand/orname.Itishighlyrecommendedthatyoualsosaveyourquestionsetsinatextfiletoeasilyimportyourquestionsintheeventthatyourquestionsgetlostordamaged.

5. Highlighttoselectallthequestionsfromthequestiontemplateandcopythem.6. Returntothegameandselectalltheexistingtextintheimport/exportbox.

Pastethenewquestionsovertheexistingtext.7. ClickOK.Thesamplequestionswillnowappearinthequestionboxes.Youarenowreadytosaveorplayyourimportedgame.ExportQuestionsIfyouwouldliketoaccessthequestionsofasavedgameintextformat,youmaydosobyclickingtheImport/Exportbutton,copyingthetext,andpastingitintoatextfile.

INSTRUCTIONSToOpenaSetofInstantQuestions•InstantQuestions:FromtheMainMenu,clickontheInstantQuestionsbuttonwithinthedesiredstructure.

•SelectQuestionSet:Selectoneofthe20providedquestionsets.Eachsethas20ready-to-usequestions.Thequestionsetwillopeninthequestioneditingscreen.

•EditScreenOptions:Intheeditingscreen,youcan:1)Playusingthequestionsas-is,2)Previewthequestionsintheset,3)Editthequestions,and4)Saveaneditedversionofthequestions.SavingthequestionssavesthemtothesavedquestionbankanddoesnotoverwritetheoriginalInstantQuestions.Youwillbeaskedtonameyoursavedsetofquestionsandselectwhichslotyou’dliketosavethemto.

ToCreateaNewGame•CreateNewGame:FromtheMainMenu,clickontheNewGamebuttonwithinthedesiredstructure.

•EnterQuestions:Youmayplaywithupto20questionspergame.Youhavetheoptionofenteringasfewas1question.Therearethreewaystoenteryourquestions:1)TypeinQuestions,2)EnterQuestionsinPreview,or3)ImportQuestions.Eachmethodisdescribedbelow.ToTypeInQuestionsTypeineachquestioninit’sownquestionbox.Forexample:

Ifyouhavealongquestion,youmayusetheupanddownarrowsunderthequestionnumbertoscrollthroughthequestion.Youmayalsoscrollthroughthequestiontextbyhighlightingthequestionandmovingyourmousedown(toscrolldown)orup(toscrollup)whilethequestionisselected.ToEnterQuestionsinPreview1.ClickthePreviewbutton.

ImportTemplate:Asamplequestiontemplatetextfileisprovided.Thistemplatefilehasquestionsintheproperformat.YoumayusethistemplatefiletotesttheImportfeatureaswellasforreferenceforhowtoformatyourquestions.ATechnicalNoteAboutTextFiles:Youwillneedtoopenthetexttemplatesinatexteditingprogram.Itisalsorecommendedthatyousaveabackupcopyofyourquestionsetsastextfilesifyourquestionsetsgetlostordamaged.Differenttexteditingprogramshandletextdifferently.TherecommendedtexteditingprogramsareWordPadforthePCandTextEditfortheMac.IfInstantTeambuildingdoesnotformatthequestionsproperly,tryadifferenttexteditingprogramorcopyandpasteyourquestionsetintotherecommendedtexteditingprograms,thencopyandpastethequestionsintotheimportfieldinInstantTeambuilding.ToSelectHowManyQuestionstoPlayUsetheUpandDownarrowbuttonstoselecthowmanyquestionsyouwouldliketoplay.Forexample,ifyouenter10questions,setQuestionsto10.Also,youhavetheoptionofplayingwithfewerquestionsthanyouenteredforthegame.Forexample,ifyouentered20questions,butonlywanttoplayusingthefirst10questions,usetheArrowbuttonstoselect10questions.Thefirst10questionswillbeusedforthegameandthelast10willbeturnedoff.

IfyouImportquestionsorusePreviewtoenterquestions,thegamewillautomaticallydetecthowmanyquestionsyouhave.Youcanalwaysaddmore(upto20questions)orusefewerquestionsbyusingtheUporDownarrowbuttons.Whenyousaveyourgame,allthequestionsenteredwillbesavedregardlessofthenumberofquestionsyouselect,soenteredquestionsarenotlost.ToPlayWithoutSavingAfterenteringquestions,youmayplaythegameimmediatelywithoutsavingbyclickingthePlaybuttonintheupperrightcorner.Ifyouwanttosaveyourquestions,itisrecommendedyoudosopriortoplaying.

3.TakeTurns.Thepromptisdisplayed.Selecthowlongeachstudentwillhavefortheirturnbyclickingatimeabovethecountdowntimer(15seconds,30seconds,45seconds,1minute,2minutes,or3minutes),thenclickStartunderthetimertostartthetimer.Thetimebaratthebottomwillturnfromgreen,toyellow,toredandshrinkastimeelapses.(Theyellowtextandthetimerarebasedonteamsof4and4turns.Teamsofdifferentsizemustadjustaccordingly.)

Whentimeisupforeachstudent,aharpsoundplaysindicatingit’sthenextteammate’sturn.Thetimerisautomaticallyresetandbeginstocountdown.After4turns,theTime’sUpscreenisdisplayed.
