PPRESENTACIÓN / PRESENTATION

2011 fue un año complejo para el ITQUIMA. Hemos asistido a cambios notables en nuestro Instituto, que no de-ben afectar a la trayectoria de excelencia que el centro se marcó como objetivo desde su creación.

El grupo de Química-Física que había formado parte del ITQUIMA desde su creación decidió dividirse en varios gru-pos y después, estos grupos, resolvieron unos adscribirse a un instituto de nueva creación en la UCLM y otros permane-cer con parte de sus miembros en otros Institutos en los que ya tenían presencia.

He de reconocer que durante estos años ha sido fácil compartir espacios de trabajo con el Grupo en general y que en lo personal ha sido provechoso contar con la compa-ñía y colaboración, especialmente de Alberto y Florentina, para sacar adelante los proyectos del centro. Ambos han demostrado siempre buena disposición a la colaboración, un recto juicio y notable criterio a la hora de compartir o no las decisiones adoptadas en el Consejo Científi co Asesor del Centro, en nombre del cual también quiero darles las gracias por la labor realizada.

Probablemente, el hecho que más ha afectado al fun-cionamiento del ITQUIMA durante el 2011 es el continuo cambio en las perspectivas presupuestarias para el funcio-namiento ordinario que hemos sufrido durante este año. El recorte del presupuesto superior al 25% que se produjo a mediados del ejercicio ha hecho que la gestión del día a día del centro haya resultado bastante caótica y que algunas de las mejoras previstas de las infraestructuras, no haya podido realizarse, al menos en su totalidad.

No obstante, no ha sido un año tan malo para el ITQUIMA, teniendo en cuenta la situación general. Se han publicado por los investigadores del centro más de 30 ar-tículos en revistas científi cas indexadas de elevado índice

2011 was a complex year for the ITQUIMA. We had notable changes in our institute that should not affect the trajectory to the excellence that the cen-ter had originally set itself as goal from its creation.

The group of Physical Chemistry that had been part of the ITQUIMA from its constitution decided split it in several groups and then, those groups deci-ded some of them the adscription to a new Research Institute and others to remain with part of their mem-ber in the Research Centers where they were pre-viously but, any of them in ITQUIMA.

I should recognize that during these years has been easy to share working spaces with the Group of Physical Chemistry and in the personal level has been profi table to have the companion and colla-boration, specially of Alberto and Florentina, to go ahead with the ITQUIMA projects. Both have always demonstrated a fair disposition for collabo-ration, a right judgment and criteria to share or not the decisions of the Research Counsel. On behalf of the Counsel I want to thank their efforts.

Probably the fact that has most affected the activity of ITQUIMA during 2011 has been the continuous changes in the budget for the ordinary development that we have suffered during the year. The strong cut-back of 25% in the ordinary budget has limited the proper conduct of the ITQUIMA daily activities. Additionally some of the actions in new in-fraestrustures planned for 2011 could not be done.

Nevertheless, has not been a so bad year for the Institute keeping in mind the general crisis sce-nery. More than 30 high level and impact scientifi c articles has been published and we had more than 40 contributions in international scientifi c events. Amongst these contributions most of them have been selected has oral presentation and some of them has been invited or “keynote spakers”. We had two new PhDs in 2011 from ITQUIMA, Abraham Casas y

de impacto. Hemos presentado más de 40 ponencias en congresos científi cos internacionales, la mayoría de ellas seleccionadas como comunicación oral y algunas de ellas han sido ponencias invitadas o como “keynote speakers”. Se han defendido dos Tesis doctorales, las de Abraham Ca-sas y Ana M. Borreguero. Esta última ha sido distinguida con el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado de la UCLM en el campo de las Ingenierías en el curso 2010/11.

Las empresas han seguido confi ando en el ITQUIMA como centro de referencia en su campo. Como muestra está que los laboratorios de Análisis de Riesgos y Biocombusti-bles han aumentado notablemente la carga de trabajo que reciben.

Durante el 2011 se ha completado la infraestructura de planta piloto para producir microcápsulas mediante “spray-drying” construida con tecnología desarrollada y patentada por los investigadores del ITQUIMA, mediante un proyecto promovido por Acciona. Con esta instalación se completa el equipamiento de planta piloto para la producción de micro-cápsulas. Los equipos disponibles nos permitirán atender las necesidades de las empresas colaboradoras de disponer de muestras de tamaño semiindustrial para producciones de demostración.

No vamos a cejar en el empeño de hacer del ITQUIMA un centro de referencia para empresas e instituciones rela-cionadas con la Química y el Medioambiente. El personal del Centro y los investigadores colaboradores siempre esta-remos abiertos a emprender el camino de la creación para que los que se acerquen a nosotros puedan innovar, resol-ver problemas medioambientales, usar y producir combus-tibles más limpios, reciclar, garantizar la seguridad y salud de sus trabajadores ó hacer más sostenibles sus procesos productivos. Ese es nuestro compromiso con la sociedad.

Queremos que las empresas e instituciones sigan viniendo al ITQUIMA con la confi anza de que no encontrarán en ningu-na otra parte, un sitio donde sus necesidades de asistencia tec-nológica relacionadas con la producción química y el medioam-biente, sean atendidas con mayor dedicación y solvencia.

Ana M. Borreguero. The Ana’s PhD has been distin-guished with the extraordinary award of Doctorate of the UCLM in the fi eld of engineering.

The private companies continue to rely on ITQUI-MA as reference center in the fi eld, as evidence the-reof the Laboratories of Occupational Health and the Biofuels has increased notably the workload.

During 2011 the pilot plant unit for the produc-tion of microcapsules by means of spray drying has been fi nished. The technology employed has been fully developed in the Institute in collaboration with Acciona and has been patented by the company. The semiindustrial scale equipment for the produc-tion of microcapsules allows us to attend the needs of our industrial partners of large scale samples for real prototypes for demonstration.

We should continue our efforts in making that ITQUIMA will be the reference center for all those companies and institutions related with Chemistry and the Environment. We will be always opened to the creative solution of the challenges that those who come to us bring and help them to innovate, solve environmental problems, produce and use cleaner fuels, recycling, guarantee the safety and occupatio-nal health of workers or to improve the sustainability of the production process. This is our social compro-mise.

We wish that the stakeholders of the sector re-main coming to ITQUIMA with the trust in which there is no other best place where their requirements of technical and scientifi c support will be better at-tended.

In chapter 46 of the famous novel D. Quixote, this one said to Dorothea: “It is a common proverb, fair lady, that ‘diligence is the mother of good for-tune…”. We sure that the ITQUIMA works for the practical realization of this proverb and we apply ourselves in the solution of the challenges that lie ahead, because follow saying D. Quixote: “where

En el capítulo 46 del Quijote, dice éste a la hermosa Dorotea: “Es común proverbio, fermosa señora, que la di-ligencia es madre de la buena ventura…”. Estad seguros de que en el ITQUIMA hacemos nuestro, cada día, este proverbio y nos aplicamos diligentemente en la resolución de los retos que nos planteáis, ya que sigue diciendo D. Quijote “la celeridad y presteza previene los discursos del enemigo, y alcanza la vitoria antes que el contrario se pon-ga en defensa”.

En este mundo global son muchos y muy potentes los centros de investigación y las instituciones internacionales que compiten por conseguir contratos, ayudas y proyectos. Que sigamos atrayendo multinacionales al ITQUIMA y con-siguiendo proyectos en los ámbitos nacional e internacional, seguro que no es por nuestro inusitado talento, comparable siquiera al que acumulan semejantes instituciones, más bien será porque siguiendo los consejos del ilustre hidalgo nos aplicamos con humildad pero con diligencia, celeridad y presteza en todo aquello que nos proponéis. Gracias a to-dos por la confi anza que prestáis a esta Institución.

El Laboratorio de Radiactividad Ambiental (LRA) forma parte de la Red de Vigilancia Radiológica Ambiental (Red REVIRA) que el Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN) gestiona a nivel nacional, estando encuadrado en la Red Densa de Estaciones de Muestreo. En 2011 este laboratorio ha realizado los siguientes Programas para el CSN.

Con el fi n de asegurar la calidad de los análisis realizados, este laboratorio participa anualmente en Programas Interlabora-torios de Control de Calidad, que son los programas de evalua-ción externa de la calidad para laboratorios de higiene industrial que coordina el Instituto Nacional de Seguridad e Higiene en el Trabajo. Este año se han participado en los siguientes progra-mas:

- Vapores orgánicos. PICC-VO. Sobre muestras de control preparadas en el Centro Nacional

de Verifi cación de Maquinaria de Vizcaya. Se realizan tres envíos anuales.

Se han realizado los siguientes análisis: 15 análisis por Cromatografía de gases (Tubos adsorbentes)- Metales en fi ltros. PICC-MET. Sobre muestras de control preparadas en el Centro Nacional

de Condiciones de Trabajo. Se realizan cuatro envíos anua-les.

Se han realizado los siguientes análisis: 20 análisis por Espectrometría de emisión con fuente de plas-

ma (Filtro)- Materia particulada en fi ltros. PICC-GRAV. Sobre muestras de control preparadas en el Centro Nacional

de Verifi cación de Maquinaria. Se realizan tres envíos anua-les.

Se han realizado los siguientes análisis: 45 análisis por Gravimetría (Filtros PVC)

Quality assurance has been a subject of particular interest for the Laboratory of Analysis of Risks, Secu-rity and Health in workplaces takes. To this aim, the Instituto de Seguridad e Higiene en el trabajo (INSHT) implemented an external quality assessment scheme, called “Programa Interlaboratorios de Control de Ca-lidad (PICC)”. The program includes a series of single schemes for differents elements and matrices.

The Laboratory of Analysis of Risks, Security and Health in workplaces participates:

- The PICC-VOC. Volatic Organic Compounds. Sample kits are mailed quaterly. Each kit consists

of four charcoal tubes with volatile organic com-pounds.Organized by INSHT. Centro Nacional de Verifi cación de Maquinaria de Vizcaya.

- PICC-MET Metals on fi lters. Sample kits are mailed quaterly. Each kit consists

of four fi lters loadel with different amounts of lead, chromium, cadmium and nickel. Organized by INSHT. Centro Nacional de Condiciones de Tra-bajo de Barcelona.

- PICC-GRAV Particulates on fi lters. Sample kits are mailed semesterly. Each kit con-

sists of fi fteen fi lters loadel with particulate matter. Or-ganized by INSHT. Centro Nacional de Verifi cación de Maquinaria de Vizcaya.

técnica. El Laboratorio de Combustibles ha participado en los siguientes ejercicios de intercomparación a nivel internacional:- PT Biodiesel 100% FAME IIS11G02 de Abril de 2011- PT Biodiesel 100% FAME IIS11G05 de Octubre de 2011 Ambos programas han sido organizados por el IIS (Institute

for Interlaboratory Studies) de Holanda y han comprendido los 25 parámetros que la Norma EN 14214:2010 requiere al biodiesel para que pueda emplearse como carburante.

- Round Robin Test 2011-100 for Demonstration of Competence for Biodiesel Test, de Junio de 2011.

Este programa ha sido organizado por FAM-AGQM, orga-nismo certifi cador de la calidad de biodiesel en Alemania. De igual forma ha comprendido todos lo parámetros de la Norma Europea EN 14214:2010, realizándose los ensayos para dos muestras por duplicado.

Más de 60 laboratorios de todo el mundo han participado en estos ejercicios, lo que confi ere en una herramienta indiscuti-ble para el aseguramiento de calidad del laboratorio.

En los tres ejercicios, el Laboratorio de Combustibles ha sido galardonado un Certifi cado de Excelencia por la calidad de los resultados obtenidos. De esta forma, el laboratorio de combus-tibles del ITQUIMA acredita su competencia técnica y se sitúa como referente de calidad analítica a nivel internacional.

Fuel Laboratory participated in international intercom-paration programs of April and October 2010 organi-zed by the IIS (Institute for Interlaboratory Studies in the Netherlands). The exercises were: PT-Biodiesel 100% FAME (B100), IIS10G02 and PT-Biodiesel 100% FAME (B100), IIS10G05. Both programs have certifi ed the ex-pertise of this laboratory for their excellent results. Thus, Fuel Laboratory of ITQUIMA stands as a benchmark for analytical quality internationally
