InstroTek®, Inc., was founded in 1997 with the vision to
provide the construction industry with innovative product
solutions and unmatched customer service. since that
time, we have delivered several new products to the
construction, aluminum, pulp and paper, and homeland

these innovative solutions have established instrotek as

We were the first to develop a portable nuclear gauge
calibration device, automatic asphalt sealing equipment for
density measurements, and rapid asphalt drying system.

Proper testing and screening of hma mixes for
moisture susceptibility is a crucial requirement
for designing high-performance and long lasting
pavements. instrotek’s new moisture induced
stress tester (m.i.s.t.™) is designed to simulate
hma pavement stripping mechanisms—due to the
presence of water and repeated traffic loading.
current moisture sensitivity tests suffer from poor
repeatability with test times lasting as long as five
days. instrotek’s m.i.s.t.™ can condition one or
two samples in 4 hours. the system consists of a
pressurized chamber that pushes and pulls water
through a compacted asphalt sample, simulating
the action of an automobile tire on a wet surface—
creating pore pressure and scouring within the
asphalt layer.

instrotek’s innovative system, the autoscan cte, now provides engineers and technicians the capability to
measure the coefficient of thermal expansion (cte) of concrete cylinders and cores. this fully automatic
device, with its small foot print, is designed for bench top operations. the temperature at hot and cold
settings is accurately controlled with a high capacity integrated environmental system. the displacement
and sample height measurements are performed with an lvDt that is placed outside the water tank, with
positive contact over the surface of the sample. this innovative method of displacement measurement
ensures that the lvDt measurement device is kept at room temperature and not exposed to extreme
temperature changes during the testing routine, which could negatively affect its operation. autoscan cte is
capable of testing 4 and 6 inch (100 and 150 mm) diameter samples. the results collected during each test,
along with system control information, are displayed numerically and graphically on the computer screen.

“proof” test, analogous to marshall stability and
flow tests and hveem stabilometer method,
so as not to rely solely on performance-graded
(Pg) binder specifications and volumetric
design methods.

the culmination of that search, based on the
success of two national cooperative highway
research Program (nchrP) projects. iPc has been
involved in these projects from the beginning
and the iPc amPt has been approved by the
nchrP.
iPc’s amPt is an innovative, integrated hydraulic
testing machine incorporating a high-performance
hydraulic actuator, air-cooled hydraulic power
pack, control & Data acquisition system (cDas),
a combined triaxial cell and environmental
chamber, with its own temperature control unit,
in one compact machine.

the 4 Point Bend apparatus is a stand-alone system for four-point fatigue life
testing of asphalt beams subjected to repeated flexural bending. the cradle
mechanism allows for backlash-free rotation and horizontal translation of all load
and reaction points. Pneumatic actuators at either end of the cradle center the
beam laterally and clamp it. servomotor driven clamps secure the beam at four
points with a pre-determined clamping force. haversine loading is applied to the
beam via the built-in digital servo-controlled pneumatic actuator. the innovative
“floating” on-specimen transducer measures and controls the true beam deflection
irrespective of loading frame compliance.
PResbox
one of the most critical parts of any test is the quality and
representability of the specimen. The PReSBOX compactor,
provides the latest in asphalt specimen preparation and mix
evaluation technology. it produces asphalt beams and cylinders
with excellent homogeneity and particle orientation. the
unique shearing action of the PReSBOX closely replicates the
conditions under which asphalt is placed in the field and gives
a good measure of workability. good workability does not
necessarily mean poor deformation resistance, however good
workability is required for optimum compaction. From the
450 x 150mm x 145 to 185mm high asphalt slab, four stan-
dard fatigue beams or four cores can be cut.
AustRACk
a combination of a large Wheel tracker and slab compactor,
austracK allows you to perform close to full scale wheel tracking
performance tests on asphalt and unbound granular material on
700mm x 500mm specimens up to 300mm thick. the 300mm
specimen depth is designed for performing tests of full depth
constructions of unsealed unbound pavements, chip sealed
pavements and asphalt pavements. For asphalt testing the insulted
heated enclosure allows wheel tracking to be performed at
temperatures up to 60°C. The programmable, automated, non-
contact laser rut depth measurement ensures the ultimate accuracy.
the rut depth measurement system can be programmed to take
laser readings after a given number of cycles. axial loads of up to 30kn
are accurately applied using quiet clean low power consumption
pneumatic actuator. austracK is perfect for leading research
universities, state highway Departments and road research
organizations.
