Luminox “RECON” Series

“RECON” is the abbreviation for “RECONNAISSANCE” (meaning “recognition” in French) and a common term used by the military for an exploratory survey through direct observation to determine the strength and types of enemy forces, their disposition and intention, along with the lay of the land and weather conditions. Examples of reconnaissance include patrolling by Special Forces or specialized units, ships, submarines, manned/unmanned aircraft and satellites.

The Luminox RECON Series was designed in collaboration with Andrea Micheli, a former Swiss Army Military Security NCO, an internationally recognized law enforcement/military specialized journalist and shooting instructor in order to meet the requests from professional military personnel for an analog watch that can be also used as a simple but efficient ground navigation tool. All watches in the RECON Series feature a second color countdown zone on the dial, a dive timing unidirectional ratcheting bezel, highly scratch resistant sapphire crystal with antireflective coatings, a walking speed scale (essentially a walking tachymeter!) available with scales in either km/h or mph and of course the ALWAYS VISIBLE self-powered illumina-tion found in all Luminox watches. All watches are packaged in a tactical MOLLE/PALS (a standard carry system used in the military that means (“MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment”/“Pouch Attachment Ladder System”) compatible sunglass case.

The watches in the RECON Series bear the title of a member of a Reconnaissance team and has features specific to their role in a Recon operation.

Point Man – “Leading the Challenge!” (Series 8820)The Point Man is the “tip of the spear.” Their job is to safely conduct the patrol to the des-ignated target through hostile territory. They define the marching speed of the team. Being on point requires great concentration, nerves of steel, and the ability to make instantaneous decisions but at exactly the right time, because acting too soon or too late can be the difference between life or death for the entire recon team.

NAV SPC Watch Strap - Serie 8830All maps have a scale which indicates the relationship between a certain distance on the map and the distance on the ground. The map scale is usually located in the legend box of a map. In order to facilitate navigation with a map, the newly designed watch strap of the RECON Series 8830 features three common map scales which can be used to measure distances on maps without the need of calculations.

Navigation Specialist (NAV SPC) – “Target Oriented!” (Series 8830)The Navigation Specialist is the person responsible for keeping the patrol on the designa-ted route until the target is reached, keeping on track with the use of a map, a compass, and GPS. They are a master in navigation – always oriented to the target. If necessary they are able to change the route and still bring the patrol safely to their destination on time, always bearing in mind that an error in the route calculation could have disastrous consequences for the entire mission.

The watch strap also features an inch/cm measurement and comparison chart. The Nav Spc Serie 8830 comes with a small compass slided on to the strap.

Luminox RECON Series – Instructions

The Watch as a Sun CompassIn a survival situation it is possible to check your direction using an analog watch, whenever you can see the sun.

In the Northern Hemisphere: point the hour hand of your watch dial at the sun. Bisect the angle between the hour hand and the 12 o‘clock mark to get the north-south line (substitute 1 o‘clock mark during Daylight Saving Time). North will be the direction further from the sun.

In the Southern Hemisphere: point the 12 o’clock mark on your watch dial at the sun. Bisect the angle between the hour hand and the 12 o‘clock mark to get the north-south line (substitute 1 o‘clock mark during Daylight Saving Time). North will be the direction further from the sun.

Walking Speed ScaleUsing a RECON series watch, you can calculate the approximate average walking/hiking speed in an hour. This calculation is based on a distance of 50 m /164 ft. As the average step length of a person varies as a function of their height, it is recommended that you measure how many steps you personally need to walk 50 m/164 ft, prior to beginning your calculation.

General Comment: One step is approximately 75 cm or 2 1/2 feet

Knowing how many steps you need to cover 50 m / 164 ft, start counting your steps when the second hand is on 12 o’clock.

When you have covered the distance of 50 m / 164 ft, observe the Wal-king Speed scale noting the position of the second hand to arrive at your walking speed in one hour.

For example: If you need 30 seconds to cover 50 m / 164 ft, your average approximately walking speed is 6 km/h or 3.7 mph.

If you are walking/hiking in a group, the calculation should always be based on the slowest walking person.

Setting the 2nd time zone-24-hour time display (in stead of a.m./p.m. time dis play):

Pull out the crown one stop to position 1. Rotate the crown counter-clockwise until the Indicator (I) shows the desired time in the 2nd time zone on the 24 hour scale on the outer bezel. Push in the crown to its normal position.

NOTE: The GMT hand displays the second time zone in the 24 hour scale (military time) e.g. At 2:00 am the GMT hand points to 2 and at 2:00 pm it points to 14 on the outer bezel.

Als Beispiele für Aufklärung dienen das Patrouillieren von Spezialeinsatzkräften oder spezialisierten Einheiten, Schiffen, U-Booten, bemannten/unbemannten Fluggeräten und Satelliten.

Die Luminox RECON Serie wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit Andrea Micheli entwickelt, der ein ehemaliger Unteroffizier für Sicherheit in der Schweizer Armee ist, sowie ein inter-national anerkannter Fachjournalist auf dem Gebiet Gesetzesvollzug/Militär und ein Aus-bilder in der Handhabung von Feuerwaffen. Damit wird bezweckt, den Anfragen aus den Reihen des Berufsmilitärs nach einem Analog-Zeitmesser, der ebenso die Funktion eines einfachen und zugleich effizienten Boden-Navigationsinstruments erfüllt, gerecht zu werden. Alle Uhren in der RECON Serie haben einen Countdown-Bereich in Zweitfarbe auf dem Zifferblatt, eine einseitig drehbare Lünette für Tauchzeitmessung, hochgradig kratzfestes

Saphirglas mit Entspiegelungsbeschichtungen, eine Schritttempo-Skalierung (im Prinzip ein Tachymeter zum Gehen!), erhältlich in entweder km/h- oder mph-Graduierung, und natürlich die ZUVERLÄSSIG SICHTBARE eigenangetriebene Illumination, die alle Luminox Chronometer auszeichnet. Alle Uhren sind in einem taktischen MOLLE/PALS (ein normiertes Tragesystem, das im Militär Verwendung findet, synonym mit „MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment“/ „Pouch Attachment Ladder System“) kompatiblen Sonnenglas-Etui verpackt.

Die Uhren in der RECON Serie tragen die Auszeichnung, sich als Mitglied des Reconnaissance-Teams einzureihen und zeichnen sich durch Funktionen aus, die sich spezifisch auf deren Rolle in einer Recon-Operation beziehen.

Point Man – „Sich der Herausforderung stellen!“ (Serie 8820)Der Point Man ist die „Spitze des Speers“. Seine Aufgabe besteht darin, die Patrouille sicher durch feindliches Territorium an das bestimmte Ziel heranzuführen. Er bestimmt das Marsch-tempo des Teams. „On Point“ erfordert großes Konzentrationsvermögen, Nerven aus Stahl und die Fähigkeit, augenblicklich zum exakt richtigen Zeitpunkt Entscheidungen zu treffen, da vorzeitiges oder verzögertes Handeln über Leben oder Tod des gesamten Recon-Teams entscheiden kann.

Navigation Specialist (NAV SPC) – „Ziel-orientiert!” (Serie 8830)Der Navigation Specialist ist jene Person, die dafür verantwortlich ist, die Patrouille auf der designierten Route zu halten, bis das Ziel erreicht ist, wozu der Gebrauch von Karte, Kompass und GPS notwendig ist. Er ist der Meister der Navigation – immer das Ziel vor Augen. Falls notwendig, ist er in der Lage, die Route abzuändern und die Patrouille trotzdem sicher und in vorgegebener Zeit an den Bestimmungsort zu bringen, während er immer im Hinterkopf behält, dass sich ein Fehler in der Routenberechnung katastrophal auf die gesamte Operation auswirken kann.

NAV SPC Uhrband - Serie 8830Alle Karten haben einen Maßstab, der eine gewisse Distanz auf der Karte mit der Distanz auf dem Terrain in Bezug setzt. Der Kartenmaßstab ist gewöhnlich in der Legende einer Karte ersichtlich. Um die Navigation mit einer Karte zu erleichtern, weist das neu entworfene Uhrband der RECON Serie 8830 drei gängige Kartenmaßstäbe auf, die zum Messen von Distanzen auf Karten verwendet werden können, ohne Berechnungen anstellen zu müssen.

Luminox RECON Serie – Anleitung

Die Uhr als ein Sonnenkompass In einer Überlebenssituation, immer wenn die Sonne sichtbar ist, ist das Prüfen Ihrer Richtung mithilfe einer Analog-Uhr möglich.

In der nördlichen Hemisphäre: Richten Sie den Stundenzeiger Ihres Zifferblatts auf die Sonne aus. Halbieren Sie den Winkel zwischen Stundenzeiger und der gedachten 12-Uhr-Markierung, um die Nord-Süd-Linie zu erhalten (ersetzen Sie 1 Stundenmarkierung während der Sommerzeit-Umstellung). Nord wird die Richtung sein, die weiter von der Sonne entfernt ist.

In der südlichen Hemisphäre: Richten Sie die 12-Uhr-Markierung auf Ihrem Zifferblatt auf die Sonne aus. Insofern als die durchschnittliche Schrittlänge einer Person sich direkt proportional zu deren Körpergröße verhält, wird empfohlen, vor Ihrer Berechnung, die Anzahl der nötigen Schritte zu messen, um 50 m/164 ft zurückzulegen. Allgemeine Anmerkung: Ein Schritt ist ungefähr 75 cm oder 2 1/2 Fuß. Mit dem Wissen, wie viele Schritte sie für 50 m/164 ft benötigen, beginnen sie Ihre Schritte zu zählen, wenn der Sekundenzeiger 12 Uhr erreicht. Wenn sie die 50 m/164 ft. Distanz zurückgelegt haben, vergleichen Sie die Position des Sekundenzeigers in der Gehtempo-Skalierung, um Ihr Gehtempo pro Stunde festzustellen. NAV SPC Watch Strap - Serie 8830Todos los mapas tienen una escala que indica la relación entre las distancias en el plano y las distancias en la tierra. Navigation Specialist (NAV SPC) – “Objetivos claros!” (Serie 8830)El Navigation Specialist es la persona responsable de mantener a la patrulla dentro de la ruta designada hasta que se haya cumplido el objetivo, manteniendo la trayectoria usando un mapa, una brújula y un GPS. Se trata de maestros de la navegación – siempre orientados hacia el objetivo. Si fuera necesario serían capaces de cambiar la ruta y devolver la patrulla a salvo a su destino y dentro del tiempo marcado, siempre teniendo en cuenta que un error en el cálculo de la ruta podría suponer desastrosas consecuencias para el resto de la misión.

La correa del reloj también cuenta con una medida en pulgadas/cm y una tabla de comparación. El Nav Spc Serie 8830 viene con una pequeña brújula deslizada sobre la correa.

de la distancia entre pasos de una persona varía en función de su altura, es recomendable medir, previamente a la realización del cálculo, cuántos pasos necesitas personalmente para caminar 50m.

Observación general: un paso mide aproximadamente 75cm o 2 1/2 pies

Sabiendo cuántos pasos necesitas para abarcar 50m, comienza a contar tus pasos cuando el segundero se posicione en las 12 en punto.

Cuando hayas caminado la distancia de 50m, observa la escala de velocidad del paso tomando nota de la posición en la que se encuentra el segundero, así podrás calcular cuál es tu velocidad de paso en una hora.

Por ejemplo: Si necesitas 30 segundos para alcanzar 50m, tu promedio aproximado de velocidad del paso será de 6km/h o 3,7 mph.

Si estás caminando en grupo, el cálculo siempre tendrá que basarse en la persona que camine a menor velocidad.

El reloj como una brújula solarEn una situación de supervivencia puedes usar tu reloj analógico para comprobar tu dirección, siempre que se pueda ver el sol.

En el hemisferio norte: dirige la manecilla de la esfera de tu reloj hacia el sol. Divide el ángulo entre la manecilla del reloj y la indicación de las 12 en punto, así obtendrás la línea norte-sur (utiliza la marca de la 1 en punto durante el horario de verano). El norte se encontrará en la dirección más alejada del sol.

En el hemisferio sur: dirige la indicación de las 12 en punto en la esfera de tu reloj hacia el sol. Divide el ángulo que se forma entre la manecilla del reloj y la marca de las doce en punto para obtener la línea de norte-sur (utiliza la marca de la 1 en punto durante el horario de verano). El norte se encontrará en la dirección más alejada del sol.

Escala de la velocidad del pasoCon el reloj RECON puedes calcular el promedio aproximado de la velocidad de tu paso en una hora. Este cálculo se basa en una distancia de 50 m o 164 pies. Como el promedio

Configuración del segundo uso horario o el indicador de las 24 horas(en lugar de a.m./p.m. se muestran las 24 horas):

Tira hacia fuera la corona B y ponla en la posición 1. Gira hasta que el indicador (I) muestre la hora deseada, ya sea en el segundo uso horario o según la escala de 24 horas. Presiona la corona B hasta dejarla en su posición original.
