INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the Digital Camera Unit DC-1(USB 2.0 type) for TOPCON Slit Lamp.

This instrument is combined with the slit lamp and used to take pictures and records ofobserved images.This instrument has the following features:• Simple operation and high-quality digital image• Optimized functions for slit lamp photography• Motion picturing for 60 sec max.• Compact body and clean-cut cable arrangement• Simple control panel operation• Emphasis on computer affinity

This Instruction Manual covers an overview of the basic operations, troubleshooting, checking,maintenance and cleaning of the Digital Camera Unit DC-1.To get the best usage from the instrument, surely read "Safety Indications" and "Safety Cautions."Keep this Instruction Manual within reach for future referencing.

• Besides the hexagon wrench packed, a 3mm plus screwdriver is required.

TAKEOFF FROM THE PACKING CASE

Open the case, paying attention to the top-bottom direction.

Take out the Instruction Manual and accessories from the inner lid.

Take out the Instruction Manual and others, and remove the inner lid.When taking out the inner lid, remove the cable through the notch part.

Take out the cushioning materials on both sides of the body, together with the body.

FITTING THE CABLE

When connecting to the TV monitor, use the Video cable (DC-1 VIDEO CABLE).

When connecting to the computer, use the recommended USB cable.

Pass the Video(stereo plug side) and USB(type B side) cables through the holes of thebase and chinrest of the slit lamp.

To avoid damage after takeoff, place the component parts on a cardboard and thelike.

For the recommended USB cable see page 52.

Using a plus screwdriver, remove the arm cover of the slit lamp.

Turn the control lever of the slit lamp and bring the arm to the top. Turn the arm aside sothat holes of the base can be seen.

Pass cables of DC-1 through holes of the base and chinrest.

When cables are passed leaving 30-40cm, remove kinks so that the cables are not twistedin the arm.

Do not forcibly pull the cables, as they may be scarified at metal corners.

MOUNTING THE BODY ONTO THE MICROSCOPE UNIT

When necessary, attach the optional adapter cover.

After passing cables through, screw down the body to the microscope mount.

Insert the arm cover into the arm from under, paying attention not to catch cables, and fas-

ten screws.

3 Unkink cables under the table. Move the base to the left end and lock, and fix cablesunder the table, allowing an excess. Confirm that the base moves smoothly.

To prevent cables from going slack to lift the body, hold the cables inside the arm.

Place the Video cable connector in the horizontal part of the arm.

CONNECTING THE VIDEO CABLE TO TV MONITORConnect the Video cable (DC-1 VIDEO CABLE) to the TV monitor.

CONNECTING THE INTERFACE CABLE TO SLIT LAMP BASE UNITConnect the Interface cable to the cable (SL-D CABLE1) from the slit lamp base unit.

CAUTION To prevent short-circuiting, connect cables correctly.

CONNECTING THE USB CABLE TO IMAGENET INSTALLED PCWhen connecting the IMAGEnet installed PC, use the USB cable.

CONNECTING THE INTERFACE CABLE TO PHOTO POWER SUPPLY FD-21

1 When connecting the photo power supply FD-21, connect the cable (SL-DCABLE2) fromthe OUT terminal of FD-21 to the Interface cable.

2 Connect the cable (SL-DCABLE2) from the IN terminal of FD-21 to the cable (SL-DCABLE1) for the slit lamp base.

CONNECTING THE POWER CABLE TO TABLE POWER SUPPLYMake sure that the POWER switch of the slit lamp is OFF.Connect the Power cable to the table power supply.

When connecting to a PC, a special software is required.When connecting to the IMAGEnet, refer to the instruction manual of the IMAGEnet.

LOADING THE COMPACT FLASH CARD

1 Make sure that the Mode dial of the main body is OFF ( ), and insert the compact flashcard in the correct direction. As illustrated below, hold the compact flash card, pointing

the memory capacity display at the patient, and surely insert to the slot end.

2 Move up the eject lever of the compact flash card slot.

NOTICE Insert the compact flash card in the correct direction. Improperinsertion may cause damage to the instrument.

NOTICEInitialize the compact flash card by this machine, as sometimesimage recording is not possible. For initializing, see the “SetupMenu List” on page 27.

Use the specified compact flash card. See “Optional Accessories” on page 52.

The picture-able numbers of the table above are a standard. The image file sizeand the picture-able numbers varies by the pictured image.

The compact flash card is hot immediately after using the main body. Be carefulwhen taking out the compact flash card.

25PREPARATIONS

SETUP

Initialize DC-1.

1 Turn the Mode dial to either of REC( ),PLAY( ), MOVIE( ) or Data Transmis-

sion( ).

2 Press the MENU key and display the Menu screen.

3 Pressing the B keys , display [SETUP1] or [SETUP 2]. The selected tub is dis-played at the top.

4 Select the setting item by UP/Down keys , display and select internal items by

RIGHT/LEFT keys .

For certain items, more detailed setting items are displayed on the right - display and select

the items by UP/Down keys and RIGHT/LEFT keys .

5 Decide the selected item by the DECISION key .

From next time, the selected setting will become available.• For the items that can be set by [SETUP 1] and [SETUP 2], see the “Setup Menu List” on

page 27.

Manipulating the compact flash card while the write lamp is ON may break

the recorded image data.

29PREPARATIONS

RESETTING FROM POWER SAVE CONDITION

This instrument adopts the power save system for power saving.By the power save system of the instrument, power supply to the camera is stopped when theinstrument is not operated for a set time.Under the power save condition, the POWER lamp brinks on the control panel.

1 Press either key on the control panel or the PHOTO switch. Photographing can be donein a few seconds.

PHOTOGRAPHING THE STILL IMAGE

1 Turn the Mode dial and set on REC( ).

2 Handle the slit lamp, through the eyepiece or while watching the monitor, and decide thecut to take a picture.

3 Press the PHOTO switch of the slit lamp and photograph the cut.

4 When not photographing, turn OFF ( O ) the Mode dial.

The magnification power changes each time the B key is pressed.

31BASIC OPERATIONS

EXPOSURE ADJUSTMENT

Exposure adjustment can be done by RIGH/LEFT keys .

• Under the MANUAL EXPOSURE mode , the shutter speed is changed. (1s/~1/1000s)

• Under the AUTO mode , exposure compensation is done. (-2~+2EV)

Mode changing between MANUAL/AUTO is done by the DOWN key .

• For details about initial mode setting, see “Various Photography(Still Image) Settings” onpage 33.

SELECTING THE PHOTOMETRY METHOD

The photometry method can be switched between "Center" and "Spot" by the

UP key .

CUSTOM CALLINGCalls out the saved CS (Custom Setting).

• Three types of saving (1/2/3) can be selected by custom setting in the menu.

• The custom setting is changed as 1 2 3 each time pressing the

A key .

DC-1 includes print functions conforming to DPOF standards, which can save theinformation to a compact flash card; pass the compact flash card to a digital labo-ratory; output only the set image when printing by a DPOF compatible printer; etc.

In case of non-compression image file, the DPOF printing dose not functionaccording to the printer.

3 Handle the slit lamp, through the eyepiece or while watching the monitor, and decide thecut to take a picture.

5 To stop photographing, press the PHOTO switch again.

CONNECTING THE PC

CONNECTING THE PC

DC-1 can be connected with a PC to perform equipment operations and image controls.

To operate DC-1 images by the PC, special software needs to be installed.

OPERATING THE IMAGE FILE UNDER STORAGE MODE

When connected with a PC, DC-1 functions as storage device under the PLAY mode.

1 In "MY COMPUTER" of Windows, DC-1 is displayed as "Removable Disc." Image files inthe compact flash card of DC-1 can be operated by normal file operations of Windows.

USING TWAIN SOFTWARE AND IMAGENET

In order to use TWAIN software or IMAGEnet, please contact your dealer, and inquire thedetails such as set-up and operations.

Power ON the PC and start Windows.

Start also application software, such as TWAIN Software, IMAGEnet, etc, as necessary.

Turn the Mode dial and set on the PC mode ( ).

• For the rest, operations of DC-1 itself are disabled, and major operations are done onthe PC side.

• When connected with a TV monitor at the same time, "PC CONNECTED" is displayedon the TV monitor.

Press the PHOTO switch of the slit lamp and take images into the application software.
