Wood Elixir is Furniture MedicineAs with any medication, the correct dose isvery important in gaining the maximumbenefit. More medicine is not necessarilybetter medicine. Don’t overdose yourfurniture finish. Just because Wood Elixir isuser friendly doesn’t mean it isn’t strongmedicine. It is better to do two lighttreatments than one heavy treatment. Thisway you are in control of the final result.Using too much product is not only wastefulbut could possibly harm the finish.
Always Test FirstSome problems are easily solved with a fewdrops of Wood Elixir applied with a cloth. Inorder to judge your requirements, always treata small, inconspicuous area first. Remember,EVERY job is different.
Removal of Paint Splatters & SmearsApply Wood Elixir following bottledirections. Wait for a few minutes to allowWood Elixir to soften the paint spots.Remove paint spots with the edge of a creditcard or fine steel wool. Wipe dry, wait, thenbuff.
Restoring an Original Painted SurfaceA light application of Wood Elixir on a clothis all that’s required to remove oxidation andsurface grime while strengthening the finishand reestablishing the bond and brighteningthe color of either water-based or oil-basedgloss and semi-gloss paint on wood or metal.Simply wipe on, wipe off and buff.
How can Wood Elixir restore life to oldpaint when you also say that Wood Elixirremoves paint splatters?A painted finish that was “intended” isdifferent from an accidental paint smear. Anintended paint finish will adhere to thesurface, because the surface was prepared toaccept and bind the paint to the surface. Apaint splatter on a preexisting finish will notadhere very well. Wood Elixir will enliven orsoften the offending splatter and seepbetween the original finish and the paintsmear, allowing for easy removal.
Built-Up Dirt & Rough Surface TreatmentIn extreme cases, heavily built-up wax anddirt can be smoothed away with Wood Elixirapplied with extra fine (0000) steel wool.Take off as much or as little as you like, bringcareful not to remove the patina or
“character” of the finish. For very roughsurfaces, such as a “crazed” or alligator finish,you may use 00 steel wool followed by 0000steel wool to finish. Light pressure might beenough - always test first. Then wipe & buffas usual.
Synthetic FinishesAlthough Dr. Woodwell Wood Elixir wasspecifically formulated to impart maximumbenefits to traditional, natural finishes onwood, the benefits to synthetic finishes aresubstantial. Finishes such as polyurethane,epoxy, varnish and other synthetic finisheswill all be substantially improved with theapplication of Wood Elixir. The benefitsinclude cleaning, sealing, brightening andstrengthening.
Candle WaxUsing an edge of a credit card, scrape asmuch wax as possible from the surface of thewood. The wax residue can now be removedwith a small amount of Wood Elixir using acloth or paper towel. Rub until all wax isremoved, then buff with a clean cloth.
Mold & Mildew RemovalSince these are living organisms, mold andmildew will continue to grow and producetheir musty odor until it is killed andremoved. This can be done in one step withWood Elixir! Simply wipe on and wipe off.A brush can be used to apply Wood Elixir todetail areas or carvings. Finish by buffingwith a clean cloth.
Scratches and Surface WearSurface scratches and scuffs will besubstantially reduced if not eliminated with asingle application of Wood Elixir. As well,the surface will receive added protection toprevent further damage. Apply Wood Elixirto a clean cloth. Wipe surface with the woodgrain in both directions. Keep the applicatorcloth moving during application. Buff with aclean cloth.
White Water MarksApply Wood Elixir evenly to the area beingtreated ... wait ... do not rub. Let Dr.Woodwell do the work! Wipe lightly with alint-free cloth. Wait at least 15 minutesbefore buffing. If a second treatment isrequired, repeat as above. Only the mostsevere white water damage will require theuse of steel wool.
