The P 1000 Cartridge: BRITA's advanced filtration technology in a compact and long lasting cartridge.TheP1000hasaconstantfiltrationperformanceforlimescalereductionthankstoitsmultilevelBRITAfiltrationsystem.Theprofessionalfilterheadallowsthreefiltrationsettingsformediumhard,hardandveryhardwater.

3 BRITA Dispenser – easy installation

Beforestarting,pleasecheckthatyouhaveallthecomponentslistedabove(seefig.1)aswellastherecommendedtools.Thereare7stepstotheinstallation.

Priortoinstallation,readthe"TechnicalData"(chapter7)andthe"ImportantNotes"(chapter9).Thesystemcannotbeinstalledwithalowpressureboilerasthismightleadtowaterdamages.Afterstorageandtransportbelow0°C,theproductmustbestoredintheopenoriginalpackagingforatleast24hoursatthestatedambienttemperatures(chapter7)foroperation.

3.1 Step 1: Selecting the carbonate hardness setting (A/B/C) on the filter head

Thefilterheadoffersthreesettingsformediumhardwater(A),hardwater(B)andveryhardwater(C).Pleasefollowtheinstructionsbelowtoadjusttotherightsettingforyourlocalwater.Firstcarryoutacarbonatehardnesstestusingthesuppliedtestingstrip.ThestripcanbefoundintheouterwrappingoftheseUsageInstructions.Usingthetestingstrip:•Immerseallreactionzonesoftheteststripinaglassofyour

regulartapwater(15-30°C)for1second(notinrunningwater!).(fig.2).

•Shakeoffexcessliquidfromthestripandafter1mincheckhowmanyreactionzoneschangedtheircolourontheteststrip.

Dependingonthenumberofreactionzonesthatchangedtheircolour,werecommendsettingyourfilterheadasfollows:

3.2 Step 2: Starting the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator

TheBRITACartridgeStatusIndicatorremindsyouthroughthreedif-ferentcolouredflashinglightswhentoexchangethefiltercartridge.

A Commissioning:Removethebatterystrip(fig.4).AllLEDsshouldflashshortly.Closethecompartment.KeeptheResetButtonpusheddownforthreesecondsuntilasmallgreenlightflashesthreetimesatthetop.

B Initial programming of the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator:

Depending on the setting you chose for the filter head (step 1), you will programm the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator as follows (see fig. 5):a Pushthebuttonontherightside(HARDNESS)tochoosethe

waterhardness.Ifyoupushthebuttononce,twoyellowLEDswillflash(defaulthardnesssetting:B).Thenpushthebuttonuntilyourcorrectwaterhardnesssettingappears:TochoosethewaterhardnesssettingC,pushthebuttonuntiloneyellowLEDflashes.TochoosethewaterhardnesssettingB,pushthebuttonuntiltwoyellowLEDsflash.TochoosethewaterhardnesssettingA,pushthebuttonuntilthreeyellowLEDsflash(seetablebelow).

b Pushthebuttonontheleftside(CARTRIDGE)tosetthecar-tridgeyouareusing.Ifyoupushthebuttononce,twoyellowLEDswillflash(defaultcartridgesetting:P1000).Thenpushthebuttonuntilthecorrectsettingforfiltercartridgeappears:IfyouareusingthefiltercartridgeA1000,pushthebutton,untiloneyellowLEDflashes.IfyouareusingthefiltercartridgeP1000,pushthebutton,untiltwoyellowLEDsflash.IfyouareusingthefiltercartridgeP3000,pushthebutton,untilthreeyellowLEDsflash(seetablebelow).

3.3 Step 3: Installing the BRITA Dispenser

ToinstalltheBRITADispenser,firstlyensureyouhaveallthecomponentsrequired.

!Please,makesurethatthereisenoughroomandaccessunderthesinktoallowfortheinstallationofthefilterheadandcartridge,andtoconnectthetwosuppliedhoses.

3.4 Step 4: Attaching the hoses

! Werecommendthatyouarrangeallthepartsyouneedinfrontofyoubeforeyoubegin.

Forwallmounting(optional),youwillneed:twoscrews(e.g.5mmthreaddiameter)and,ifrequired,twowallplugssuitableforyourtypeofwall.Pleasefollowthediagrambelow(seefig.9)andperformthestepsintherightorder.AConnectsuppliedT-pieceonyourcoldwatersupplya)Insertone3/8"gasketintothefemalenutofthesuppliedT-piece.b)ConnectthisendoftheT-piecetoyourcoldwatersupply.

Ifyoudohaveanadditionalfree3/8"coldwatersupplyfortheBRITADispenserinyourkitchen,youdonotneedtoinstallthesuppliedT-piece!Ifyourcoldwatersupplydoesnotfitthe3/8"connectoroftheT-piece,usethesuppliedadapterifrequired.Pleaseinsertthe1/2"gasketintothefemalenutoftheadapterfirst.YourWaterFilterKitcomeswithtwo1/2"adapters.Pleasegotoyournearestsupplierforadaptersinothersizes.

B ConnectthehosewiththebluestripetoonesideoftheT-piece.C Takethehosewithtwo3/8"connectors.Insertthe3/8"gaskets

intotherespectivefemalethreadsofthetwohoseends.ConnectoneendwiththefreesideoftheT-Piece.

DNowconnecttheotherendtothefilterheadinlet.Thisislabelled“IN”(inlet)andmarkedwithanarrow.Makesurethatthegas-ketsareseatedcorrectly!

E Connectthe800mmhosewhichisconnectedwiththedis-penserwiththeoutletofthefilterheadlabelledwithan"OUT"arrow.Makesurethatalsoherethegasketsareseatedcorrectly!

F Connectthehosewiththeredstripewithyourhotwatersupply.Ifyourhotwatersupplydoesnotfitthe3/8"connector,usethesuppliedadapterifrequired.Pleaseinsertthe1/2"gasketintothefemalenutoftheadapterfirst.

GMakesureallconnectionsaretightenedproperly.Avoidovertightening.

3.6 Step 6 (optional): Space-saving wall mount to install the cartridge under the sink (see fig. 11)

3.7 Step 7: Commissioning

Before use, make sure that you have followed all the steps correctly and all the parts are fitted. Place a suitable container under the cartridge to catch any leakages.A Turnonthecoldandhotwatersuppliesandcheckthesystem

carefullyforanyleaks.B OpentheBRITADispenserandallowwatertorununtilthefil-

teredwaterrunsclearandwithoutanybubbles(atleast2litres).

4 Replacing the filter cartridge

Ifthemaximumvolumeisreachedorthecartridgehasbeenusedfor12monthsfromcommissioning,theBRITAStatusIndicatorwillflashredtoremindyouthatthecartridgeneedstobereplaced.ReadImportantNotes(chapter9)priortoexchange.Afterstorageandtransportbelow0°C,theproductmustbestoredintheopenoriginalpackagingforatleast24hoursatthestatedambienttem-peratures(chapter7)foroperation.

Thefiltercartridgecanbepivotedby90°inthewallmountforeasyremoval.Whenthelockinghandleisopen,thewatersupplytothecartridgeisinterruptedandby-passingwithdirectwaterflowfromthewaterinlettotheoutletispossible.

Replacing the P 1000 (see fig. 10):AOpenthelockinghandle(3).B Placeasuitablecontainerundertheflushhosetocatchtherinse

water.Opentheflushvalve(2)andreleasepressurefromthesystem.Closetheflushvalve(2)again.

C Removetheexhaustedfiltercartridge(4)fromthefilterhead(5)–pleasebeaware,thecartridgeisfirmlyembeddedsoyoucangiveitafirmpullwithoutworryingaboutbreakingit.

D Insertthenewfiltercartridge(seechapter3.5).E Closethelockinghandle(3).F ResettheBRITACartridgeStatusIndicator(chapter5).GOpentheBRITAbrandedleveronyourBRITADispenserand

5 Activating the BRITA Dispenser Cartridge Status Indicator

ProtecttheP1000waterfiltercartridgefromdirectsunlightandmechanicaldamage.Donotassemblenearsourcesofheatandopenflames.Astopvalvemustbeinstalledbeforethefiltersystemintakehose.TheBRITADispenserisonlysuitablefordomesticuse.OnlywaterofdrinkingwaterqualitymaybeusedasintakewaterfortheBRITAwaterfiltersystem.TheBRITAwaterfiltercartridgeisonlysuitableforcoldwaterusewithinthesupplywatertem-peraturestatedinchapter7.Nomicrobiologicallyimpairedwaterorwaterofunknownqualitymaybeusedwithoutappropriatedisinfection.Thesystemcannotbeinstalledwithalowpressureboiler.Irrespectiveofthewaterused,youshouldusestainlesssteelutensilsorkettleswithstainlesssteelheatingelements.Thisisofparticularimportancetopeoplewhoaresensitivetonickel.

In the event: filter first, and then boil

If there are official instructions to boil tap water, the filter sys-tem must be decommissioned. When the requirement to boil water comes to an end, the filter cartridge must be replaced and the connections cleaned.

•Forhygienereasons,thefiltermaterialofthecartridgeissub-jectedtoaspecialtreatmentwithsilver.Asmallquantityofsilver,whichisharmlesstohealth,maybereleasedintothewater.ThisisincompliancewiththeWorldHealthOrganisation(WHO)recommendationsfordrinkingwater.

•Itisgenerallyrecommendedtoboiltapwaterforcertaingroupsofpeople(e.g.peoplewithweakimmunesystems,babies).Thisalsoappliestofilteredwater.

•Noteforpeoplewithkidneydiseaseordialysispatients:Thefilter-ingprocesscancauseasmallriseinthelevelsofpotassium.

•ThewaterfiltrateisclassifiedinCategory2accordingtoEN1717.

Optimum use

•BRITArecommendsthatthefiltersystemisnotleftunusedforalongperiod.IftheBRITADispenserisnotusedforseveraldays(2–3days),werecommendthatthefiltersystembeflushedwiththeflushingvolumeXindicatedinthetablebelow.Afterstagna-tionperiodsofover4weeks,thefiltershouldbeflushedwithflushingvolumeY.Pleasealsonotethemaximumusageperiodofthefiltercartridgeis12months,irrespectiveoftheactualvolumeused.
