The Zenostar Art Modules provide with an efficient method of characterizing and individualizing the shade of all your Zenostar

restorations.

You have the choice of using the special Zenostar Art Stains to shade the Zenostar restorations or to create restorations using the

cut-back technique with the aid of Zenoflex dimension One ceramic.

Whichever you choose, you will be amazed by the results.

With the Zenostar Art Module Complete (powder or paste) you can use the simple Zenostar Art staining technique and the highly

esthetic cut-back technique. Simply choose and get started.

The Zenostar Art Module Focus (powder or paste) offers all the components needed to reproduce the shades of the A-D shade

guides, including the bleach shades, by using the Zenostar staining technique. Further individualizations (Zenostar Stains) or layering

options (Zenoflex dimension One) are dispensed with and the "Focus" is placed solely on the original Zenostar technique.

This module will also be of interest to you if you already have the Zenoflex dimension One Module and X Stain RZ Module, since

this will place at your disposal all the Zenostar characterization techniques available

Both modules include the Zenostar Magic Glaze Flu Spray which gives the Zenostar restoration a natural-looking

fluorescence.

The Zenostar Art Stains 3D (3D–1 to 3D-7) are used to reproduce the 26 3D shades* together with the existing Art Stains by using

the staining technique (according to the allocation table on page 11). The Art Stains 3D are sold as single items and not as a module.

They are available as 3D-add-on to the existing modules.

The Zenostar Art Modules and 3D add-on components are suitable for staining (Art Module Focus and Zenostar Art Module

Complete) and veneering (Zenostar Art Module Complete) hard sintered full-contour Zenostar restorations with a CTE at 25 – 500 °C

of approx. 10,5 x 10-6 K-1.

contraindications

■ Veneering or staining of frameworks which manifest defects in the form of fractures, cracks or cavities.

■ Unsuitable types of preparation (e.g. tangential preparations)

■ Insufficient space in the mouth

■ Excessive grinding of the restoration (interior and exterior of the ZrO2 framework or the veneering ceramic) with rotary instruments

without water cooling and under application of excessive force by the dentist or dental technician

Innovative anti-stress minerals (AsM) in

Zenoflex dimension one uni materials (light and intense)

The innovative ASM microstructure is obtained by adding fine crystals during

the production process. This gives the user an added degree of confidence

and reliability. Anti-stress minerals (ASM) enable undesirable tensile stresses

to be removed whilst at the same time retaining the required compressive

stresses. The veneered ZrO2 restoration therefore offers the best possible

distribution of stresses, which can considerably increase the life of the restoration.

Zenostar Art stain (powder or paste)

For easy reproduction of the tooth shades using the

Zenostar staining technique. These materials are used to

create the basic shade.

Zenostar Art Incisal stain (powder or paste)

Simulates the effect of depth in the incisal area simply

by using the Zenostar staining technique.

Zenostar Bodystain (powder or paste)

These materials are especially suitable for characterizing

the work in combination with the Zenoflex dimension One

layering ceramic.

Zenostar stain (powder or paste)

For characterizing the restoration e.g. in the cervical

and occlusal areas by using stains. Especially suitable

for applying directly onto zirconia.

Zenostar Glaze / Magic Glaze / Magic Glaze flu

The glaze bake gives the surface finish to the ceramic

veneer. The glaze material is applied in a thin and even

layer. Alternatively, the material can be applied as a spray

glaze (Zenostar Magic Glaze or Magic Glaze Flu). This is

extremely easy to use. Simply shake the can and spray

on the glaze (see the instructions for use applicable

to Zenostar Magic Glaze or Magic Glaze Flu). Using

Magic Glaze Flu gives the Zenostar restoration a natural-

looking fluorescence.

Zenoflex dimension core stain

These materials are needed when using the cut-back

technique with the aid of Zenoflex dimension One

veneering ceramic. This lends a fine pastel shade to the

Zenostar Zr Translucent pure frameworks.

Zenoflex dimension one uni (one-layer material)

These materials are used for the cut-back technique

and the One-layer build-up with Zenoflex dimension

One. The shade, translucency and chroma of the two

Zenoflex dimension Uni materials available (light and

intense) are designed to imitate a dentine / incisal

layer when the restoration is shaded with Zenostar

body stains.

Zenostar stain Liquid / Zenostar stain Liquid spezial

Zenostar Stain Liquid and Zenostar Stain Liquid

Special are used for mixing the glaze and stains. This

gives perfect brilliance and homogeneous surfaces

to the stains and the glaze. Because of the special

composition of Zenostar Stain Liquid Special, the

stains can be mixed to a paste-like consistency. This

makes these materials easy to apply and ensures

that they remain in situ and do not run off the edge.

The liquids vary in their consistency as follows:

■ Stain Liquid: low viscosity

■ Stain Liquid Spezial: medium viscosity

Zenoflex dimension core stain Liquid

Zenoflex dimension Core Stain Liquid has a high

viscosity, making it especially suitable for applying

the Core Stain. If desired, however, this liquid can

also be used for mixing stains and body stains.

X carving Liquid retain

Slow liquid, i.e. dries more slowly. Of course, you

can also use the products X Carving Liquid Standard

and X Carving Liquid Speed.

Zenostar – the concept

Monolithic restorations – a concept of the future

Non-veneered, monolithic all-ceramic crowns and bridges are now a reality. They present an economical and biologically compatible

complement to – or replacement for – metallic restorations, especially those made from non-precious metals.

Of course, from an esthetic point of view, some areas are more critical than others. In such matters, dental technicians have always

found and will always find the best solution – and the technological advances of the last few decades have borne this out. With the

cut-back technique, which is based on “quasi monolithic structures”, even better esthetics can be achieved just as easily.

The basic requirement for making Zenostar restorations is the use of translucent zirconia and especially coordinated sintering program

(please refer to the sintering recommendations given in the instructions for the zirconia). A highly suitable material for this purpose is

Zenostar Zr Translucent.

1. Zenostar restorations – staining technique

Here there are two different processes to choose from in order to produce the required esthetic effect:

a. Pre-stained Zenostar Zr translucent Discs

The Zenostar Art Stains are suitable for making Zenostar restorations from pre-stained discs. The restoration

can then be individualized by using Zenostar Art Incisal Stains and /or Zenostar Stains. We recommend staining

after the glaze bake with Magic Glaze / Magic Glaze Flu, since this makes it easier to apply the stains.

b. Zenostar Zr translucent (pre-stained with Zenostar color Zr)

When using unstained discs, the full-contour milled work must be stained with a brush using the technique

developed specially for Zenostar restorations. When doing this, please follow the instructions for use supplied

with Zenostar Color Zr.

Of course, Zenostar restorations can be individually stained with Zenostar Art Stains and Zenostar Art Incisal

Stains. In all cases, the occlusal surface must be polished to a high luster in order to avoid damage to the opposing

teeth.

By using Zenostar Magic Glaze or Zenostar Magic Glaze Flu, a glaze bake can also be applied to polished surfaces.

Here, too, follow the relevant instructions for use.

In order to make it easier to shade the finished restoration, it is recommended to carry out a stain bake after

the Magic Glaze or Magic Glaze Flu bake, since this makes the stains easier to apply than if they are applied

directly onto the highly polished framework.

2. Zenostar restorations – cut-back technique

With this technique, space is made for the Zenoflex dimension one uni material by removing a 0.5 mm

layer from the buccal area of the crowns after the restoration has been contoured to its anatomical shape.

After sintering, apply a thin layer of Uni material, light or intense and fire in a porcelain furnace at 900 °C.

Apply Magic Glaze or Magic Glaze Flu evenly, bake and then stain individually to achieve the required esthetic effect

Important

Before the Zenostar restoration can be glazed and/or stained, the occlusal surface must always be polished physically.

This should be carried out using a handpiece. The best results are obtained by using the Zenostar Polish polishing paste

and the corresponding Bison hair brush.

the five steps to creating a Zenostar restoration using the staining techniques

1. Milling and separating the restorations Zenostar restorations are made by milling the required work from pre-shaded

Zenostar Zr Translucent blanks. The choice of blanks in the shades light, medium,

intense, sun and sun chroma depends on the required tooth shade as shown in the

shade chart (page 10). When the milling process is complete, the work must be

separated from the blank at the pre-milled positions.

2. Grinding Before sintering, gently grind the cervical and body areas with fine-grain emery paper.

Suitable rotary burs can be used to characterize the occlusal surface. Be sure to avoid

causing any fractures, cracks, edge chipping, sharp edges, indentations or undersized

areas.

3. sintering The Zenostar restorations are sintered in suitable high-temperature furnaces. Please

note the individual sinter programs for the various furnaces when sintering

Zenostar Zr Translucent and follow the relevant instructions and recommendations.

4. Polishing Polish the occlusal surface of the restoration to a high shine with a bison bristle brush

and a little Zenostar Polish diamond polishing paste in order to create a smooth surface.

Then use a steam jet to clean the full-contour ZrO2 work (Zenostar restoration).

5 a. Glazing and staining (powder)

After polishing, the Zenostar restorations are glazed with Zenostar Magic Glaze Flu

Spray or Zenostar Magic Glaze Spray.

Then they can be stained.

Zenostar Art and Zenostar Art Incisal Stains are mixed somewhat more thickly

(i.e. more of a paste) than the Zenostar Stains. The materials are used so as to achieve

the desired shade intensity, i.e. the shade can be made darker by repeatedly staining

and firing. Always avoid applying the materials too thickly since this can otherwise

cause unnatural and uneven surfaces. When the work has been characterized with

Zenostar Art Stains (or Zenostar Body Stains) and individualized with Zenostar Stains

and Zenostar Art Incisal Stains, it is then fired (glaze bake). Details of suitable carving

liquids can be found on page 6.

5 b. Glazing and staining (paste)

Zenostar Art Stains, Art Incisal Stains, Bodystains and Stains are also available as pastes.

To successfully apply the pastes please follow the recommendations below:

■ Homogeneity

Before using the pastes it is recommended to stir and homogenize them intensively.

■ Used Brush

Please use the brush included in the assortments (CB1 = Creative Brush 1) to apply

the paste as desired.

■ Paste Thinner

If the paste appears to be too thick, please use the available “Zenostar Stain Liquid”

or “Zenostar Stain Liquid Special” to individually decrease the viscosity of the paste.

■ Firing programs and allocation charts

The allocations charts given on page 10 + 11 and the firing programs listed on page

16 are applicable for both powder and paste materials.

The reproduction of the 16 A-D + 4 Bleach shades and the 26 3D shades** is summarized in the two tables above. The staining scheme is specifically adapted to the

pre-shaded Zenostar Zr Translucent Blanks light, medium, intense, sun and sun chroma. The Zenostar Art 3D stains are available as single add-ons.

Zenoflex dimension one

The One-layer technique is a fast and simple process for making ceramic restorations,

for both the cut-back technique and the full-layer technique. In this process, a single

layer of material is applied to a full-contour crown or bridge and then fired. The esthetic

finish is achieved by using special stains (Zenostar Body Stain and Zenostar Stain).

The One-layer technique makes the build-up easier, faster and consequently more

cost-effective. Whereas until now, a minimum of two ceramic materials (dentine and

incisal and/or transparent material) were needed to make a ceramic restoration, this

technique now enables each of the 16 dental shades (A1 to D4) to be reproduced

by applying just one layer of ceramic material, Uni light or Uni intense.

The zirconia framework forms the basis for creating the 16 tooth shades. Depending

on the tooth shade, Core Stain is applied.

■ For non-stained (white and translucent) frameworks, we recommend the use of Core

Stains.

■ For frameworks stained with Zenotec Color, it is not necessary to use Core Stains.

However, their use is advisable in the case of post-borne restorations and discolored

stumps.

Then the complete full-contour framework receives just one layer of Uni light Uni

intense.

Important

■ Use only the recommended liquids for making up the materials (see page 6).

■ Using components other than those recommended for the product always entails the risk of the restoration failing as a result

of uncontrolled reactions, CTE incompatibility or unsuitable firing parameters.

1. Applying the core stain

In order to obtain an accurate reproduction of the desired shade when using non-stained frameworks, the

corresponding Core Stain or Core Liner material must be used to create the basic shade.

Mix the Core Stain material with the Core Stain Liquid to make up a (not too thin) paste and apply evenly to the

zirconia framework. If the layer of Core Stain applied to the zirconia framework is too thick, the shade of the

finished veneer will be too dark. There are four Core Stains in all. If you prefer a more opaque coping, please ask

about our Core Liners

2. uni one-layer ceramic

a. first one-layer ceramic bake

The Zenoflex dimension One, Uni light and Uni intense One-layer materials are mixed with X Carving Liquid

or X Carving Liquid Retain in the same way as a dentine. As shown in the layering diagram, this material is

used to build up a slightly oversized version of the complete final anatomic shape of the restoration. When

the build-up is complete, fire the ceramic in accordance with the relevant firing recommendations.

b. second one-layer ceramic bake

After the first One-layer ceramic bake, trim the work with (water drip) cooled diamond tools, then clean in a steam

jet as for a second dentine bake. Any missing ceramic can be corrected by adding a further layer of Uni material.

3. characterizing the shade

a. staining with Zenostar Body stains and Zenostar stains

When trimming is complete, clean the restoration. Apply Zenostar Body Stains and Zenostar Stains depending

on the depth of shade required, i.e. repeated staining and firing makes the shade darker. However, avoid

applying these materials too thickly, since this can result in an unnatural and uneven surface. After characterizing

the shade with Zenostar Body Stains and individualizing it with Zenostar Stains, fire the work (glaze bake).

b. Glaze bake

If desired, the restoration can now be glazed with Zenostar Magic Glaze (Spray), Zenostar Magic Glaze Flu (Spray)

or Zenostar Glaze (powder). This makes the surface especially shiny and smooth.

note

For pre-stained zirconia frameworks, no Core Liner or Core Stain is usually needed since the zirconia is already pre-stained.

However, it is specifically recommended to use Core Stain and Core Liner for post-borne restorations or strongly discolored

tooth stumps.

Inhaling ceramic dust can be harmful to the lungs. Ceramic powders must therefore be stored in tightly sealed containers and

calculating the value of X

Along with incorrect framework design, too low a setting on the furnace is the most common cause of failure.

It is therefore absolutely crucial to set the firing temperature of your furnace correctly. This is very easy to do

by means of a firing sample with the aid of the Zenoflex dimension calibration set.

In order to adjust the firing temperature of each individual furnace used, the actual firing temperature of the

furnace must first be determined, since this can differ from the temperature shown in the display. It is not

unusual to find a deviation of 20 – 30 °C.

To do this, a firing sample of Zenoflex Transpa Clear is fired in the lab and compared with the reference sample

supplied. Transparency values and surface roughness should be the same for the firing sample and the refe-

rence sample. If this is not the case, then the firing temperature must be adjusted until the required degree

of firing is attained.

The difference in temperature between the value indicated and the actual temperature corresponds to the

value X and must accordingly be added to the value given for the respective firing program. With larger pieces

of work, the drying and closing times should be increased accordingly.

Zenostar Stains are suitable for individualizing Zenostar restorations. In addition, they can also be used for individualizing Zenoflex

dimension veneering ceramic with and without using the cut-back technique.

the shade palette is a logical and easy-to-use stain mixing system

■ It enables the dental technician to reproduce all 75 shades depicted on the palette in a simple and logical way, using the eight colors

shown on the angles of the octagon plus white and gray.

■ In addition to the colors shown on the angles of the octagon, the eight shades most commonly used in dental technology are a

regular component of the Stain Module.

■ By using a measure and referring to the mixing chart (page 17), the various shades can be reproduced accurately.

■ Select the size of the measure according to the total volume required.

Procedure

■ Select the shade from the palette shown on the right.

■ Make a note of the number of each color swatch.

■ Look up the corresponding number in the chart that follows.

■ Then mix the components as described in the chart.

This should give the required nuance.
