Large general retailers and internet sources are selling instruments for beginners that are of extremely poor quality. Don’t be fooled by off-brand “bargain” instruments from wholesale non-music stores or miscellaneous internet sources. Your neighborhood instrument dealer remains your best source. Instruments that seem to be much less expensive can cost you more in the long run due to repair costs and lack of durability. Inferior instruments are frustrating for your student.
Please consider utilizing a Troy School District recommended instrument vendor to ensure a quality purchase, repair and warranty package, as well as a successful experience for your student.
Vendor Information Below is a list of TSD approved companies for your convenience. You may wish to acquire an instrument from one of these companies or choose to do business with a company of your choice.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
1. The Parent or Guardian is asked to provide one of the instruments listed below. The supplies
listed under each instrument are to be included in the rental package.
2. Please allow the TSD Instrumental Music Staff to inspect the instrument of other brands/models not specified. This is to ensure your child’s instrument is in appropriate working condition.
3. The TSD Staff have found that instruments in non-traditional colors are typically of very poor quality; parents are discouraged from purchasing these instruments.
4. Insurance is recommended for your student’s instrument in case of major damage or loss of the
instrument. The vendors’ policies will vary; parents may need to make arrangements with their homeowners insurance company.
