    Insulating uids are a key component of much electricalequipment. Highly re ned mineral oils, silicone uids, vegetableoil (natural esters) and synthetic esters guarantee the operationof transformers, medical and safety or even radar technologydevices. Insulating materials lose their insulating and coolingproperties due to impurities and ageing.     In 1986 BAUR launches a water content measuring devicein the µg range with excellent properties for determining thehumidity in insulating oils according to the Karl-Fischer method.

    In 1987 BAUR introduces oil testers with complete electro-magnetic shielding which and thus allows error-free oil testing inhi-tech laboratories with IT-infrastructure and gas chromato-graphs.

    In 1988 the BAUR DTL oil tester revolutionises testingtechnology. It is the rst device combining automatic measuringprocedures for the dissipation factor and speci c resistance ofinsulating oils.

    In 1989 BAUR introduces another innovative highlight: Thesmallest portable oil tester with a test voltage up to 60 kV, idealfor eld use with battery operation.

    In 1995 BAUR develops the RBM technology. With the RealBreakdown Monitoring, only actually completed breakdowns willbe identi ed.

    In 1996 BAUR converts all oil testers to power ampli erelectronic voltage generation. This ensures stable test voltageand limits the breakdown energy so that deposits on electrodescaused by gas formation and carbonisation will be minimised.

    In 2008 BAUR presents the completely new developed seriesof oil testers. The BAUR DTA 100 C, BAUR DPA 75 C and BAURDTL C instruments are characterised by the most modern meas-

    uring technology, maximum ef ciency and user-friendliness.

    Milestones in the history of insulating uid testing:

    In 1952 BAUR presents thesmallest oil tester for break-down measurement ofinsulating oils. The revolution-ary, rst portable devicesenable onsite testing.

    In 1965 BAUR introducesthe rst fully automatic oiltester in the world. The deviceworking with a punched carddetermined the mathematicalaverage value independently.

    In 1968 Development ofthe „BAUR Propeller“ forcirculation of the insulating oil during the complete testsequence. With this method the dispersion of breakdownseries is improved and later incorporated in the US standard

    ASTM D 1816.

    In 1970 BAUR introduces the hermetically sealed oil test cell.It keeps out ambient air and thus increases the precision of thebreakdown voltage. Equally innovative is the rst-time use of anelectronic triac switch-off in oil testers. It reduces the switch-offtime to < 1 ms, thus reduces the switch-off energy and reducesthe gas formation in the breakdown series.

    In 1975 BAUR is the rst manufacturer to introduces atransport test cell for taking oil samples. This minimises impuri-

    ties in the sample during transport and curroption of themeasuring results.

    The breakdown voltage test is used to evaluate the degree ofimpurity in insulating oils due to foreign particles, gas and water.It meets current regulations and is economically useful toprotect electrical systems such as transformers and switches,as well as, medical and security systems from breakdowns. Themain reason for such damage is the poor condition of theinsulating oil.

    The oil tester BAUR DTA 100 C, is designed for continuous opera-tion in the laboratory. This high performance instrument ischaracterised by the combination of extraordinary propertiessuch as a test voltage up to 100 kV, clear breakdown detectionand absolutely reliable measurement results.     Moisture is a result of the ageing process of oil and affects itsinsulating properties. Insulating oil must be inspected regularly,dehumidi ed or replaced to prevent danger of damage andaccidents, e.g. transformer res. The BAUR Aquameter KFM 3000applies the worldwide recognised Karl-Fischer method for deter-
