Thermal oil heaters by INTEC® are successfully used for supplying pro-cess heat to industrial plants of various industries such as wood, textile,chemical, oleochemical, petrochemical, plastics, pulp and paper, solarpower, ship building and food industries.
Compared to heating systems using hot water or steam, thermal oil asa heat transfer medium offers the advantage, that it can be heated near-ly without any pressure until a temperature of 320 °C. With syntheticoils, even temperatures up to 400 °C can be reached. For this reason, inmost industrial processes heat transfer oil plants have finally achievedpredominance in the supply of process energy.

Thermal oil heaters by INTEC® using fuelssuch as natural gas fuel oil are operated inthe capacity range of 100 kW up to 25,000kW. Heater systems with higher capacityvalues may be offered upon request.

FUELS
For heat generation with thermal oil heatersmanufactured by INTEC® conventional fuelssuch as heavy oil, light oil and natural gasare usually burnt.
If one of the above-mentioned fuels is notavailable, it is possible to use electrical ener-gy for the heating process.
Depending on the application certain pro-duction waste in gaseous or liquid form maybe considered for additional incineration.
In order to be able to use biomass and othersolid fuels, INTEC® offers own developedcombustion systems and dust burners.

REMOVAL OF LOW-BOILERS
With time the thermal oil experiences adegradation which leads also to a reducedflame temperature. In order to reduce thiseffects and to increase the life time of theoil, INTEC® has developed a method to con-tinuously remove the low-boiling fractionduring operation.
EFFICIENCY
System efficiency may be further improvedby usage of an INTEC combustion air pre-heater, exactly matching the INTEC®-heater.Thus, it is possible to either reduce fuel con-sumption or to increase performance byapplying the same amount of fuel. Althoughthese installations require higher invest-ment costs, the invested capital will pay offwithin a short period of time.

LAYOUT
Depending on the space requirements andthe customer’s preference, the heater canbe installed either in vertical or in horizontaldirection.
At the end of the first pass the flue gas isturned around, still having high temperatu-re. Usually this area is cladded with refrac-tory material to keep the bottom of the hea-ter at low temperature. Alternatively it ispossible to replace the refractory materialby an oil-cooled plate.
In case of horizontal installation, we areable to insert an inspection hatch in thebaseplate or to install a hinged heater coverin order to facilitate cleaning and mainten-ance. For vertical heaters the burner can bemounted either on top (down-firing) or atthe bottem (up-firing).
On customer’s request, it is possible to pre-mount and to pre-wire heaters with capaci-ty of up to 2,000 kW together with othercomponents (burner, pump, valves and fit-tings) on a framework. Thus, the work re-quired for installation at the customer’s siteis considerably reduced.

The burner will automatically switch off, should the maximum admissible thermal oil outlettemperature or the flue-gas temperature after the heater be exceededIn order to protect the thermal oil, the burner capacity is reduced during cold start until theminimum temperature is exceeded. Following that, capacity output of the burner is increaseduntil reaching the setpoint valueThe burner shuts down immediately if the pump stops runningTo avoid over heating and thus damaging of the thermal oil, a minimum volume of the oilmust always flow through the heater. A flow control device approved for this type of installa-tion controls the minimum oil flow through every single pipe coilThe filling level of the thermal oil in the expansion tank is monitored by a float switch. MANUFACTURING
In order to be able to meet the quality levels requiredby our clients and us, the core components of theINTEC® plants are manufactured in Germany by oursubsidiary INTEC Rohrtechnik GmbH. For the manu-facturing of large components, we dispose of produc-
tion facilities with a surface of 2,500 m2 and craneswith an ultimate load of 25 t per unit. Our machinepark is specialised on the cold forming of tubes up toa nominal diameter of DN 250 as well as on themachining of metal sheets up to a thickness of 25 mm.
