Wuppertal is located in the center of Europe. During the 18th and 19th century the city was the heart of one of the biggest industrial regions in Europe. Wuppertal currently has about 349,000 inhabitants and is located in the lovely narrow valley of the river Wupper. The scenery in this area is particularly delightful, with its wooded hills, meadows, gardens and fields.
In Wuppertal you will also find the famous suspension monorail, the Wuppertal Schwebebahn.
Some 22,000 students benefit from the high-level academic environment of the university and its commitment to research and international collaboration. The University of Wuppertal was founded in 1972.Its 9 faculties contain a total of 31 departments.

The University of Wuppertal provides a large number of programs for international students.Continuing studies and certificate courses are offered by the Center for Continuing Studies (ZWB).
In cooperation with the faculties and departments and with the assistance of the International Office, it coordinates further training opportunities for both local and international students and offers different types of certificate programs. Certificate courses are designed to meet the present requirements on science, society and profession. They have a highly specific substantial orientation and are commonly organized in modules.

International exchange programs during undergraduate studies are built upon previous academic achievements.
Continuing studies enable students to get in touch with new methods, models and results of research, theory and practices.
A sociocultural framework offer complements and accompanies all programs, containing i.a. an intercultural training, a German language course and excursions.

INTRODUCTION TO INTEGRAL INNOVATION
CONTENT& AIMS
This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the key concepts of integral innovation: innovation space, the relationship between the coordinates of innovation space, conceptual innovation, the implementation level of technical and formal innovation, the conceptual level, and implementation redundancy. The course also deals with product ontogenesis, the cross-cultural history of the search for innovative solutions to specific problems, and the general history of inventions. Participants will be introduced to a range of creativity techniques and basic conceptual principles in practical exercises and workshops.

Travel DocumentationThe Certificate Program aims to introduce students to the field of Integral Innovation and to additional fields, such as entrepreneurship, industrial design and mechanical engineering, to develop the skills required to communicate concepts. Courses are taught in form of lectures, seminars and tutorials (for in-depth discussion of theory). Participants are required to prepare and consolidate course subject matter in independent study and exercises on the basis of the learning materials and literature.
The program is based on a practical approach and on participants’ ongoing project work. In addition to lectures, the program also involves seminars, short projects, improvised (extempore) projects, workshops, and creativity sessions. Independent group work is supported through team building.

REQUIREMENTS Admission regulations ensure that the participants are selected according to established quality standards. No additional requirements need be fulfilled for this course. Students are also expected to acquire knowledge of recommended texts during the course. A certificate of competence in English (TOEFL or equivalent) is desired.
NUMBER OFPARTICIPANTS
The minimum number of participants is 21. If the required number of participants is not reached, the course will be cancelled.
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
The Certificate Program INTEGRAL INNOVATION aims to provide an introduction to fundamental concepts of integral innovation. The program may also be taken as a detached unit, particularly by participants who seek knowledge in this area for research into invention and creativity from the perspective of integral innovation.
REQUIREMENTS FOR AWARD OF CREDIT POINTS
Credit points are awarded if the examination requirements have been fulfilled. The program examination consists of the following component:
ComponentsOral examination (20 minutes)and further course examinations (i.e. written essays and presentations)
A total of 30 ECTS (credits) are awarded for the course.
This course is taught in English.It will take place between the 5th of March and the 25th of May 2018 (12 weeks).

TEACHING PROFESSORSOF INTEGRAL INNOVATION
Prof. Dr. Peter Gust, Chair of Engineering Design, University of Wuppertal.The Department of Engineering Design at the University of Wuppertal – directed by Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Gust – offers extensive industrial and research experience in the field of drive engineering, simulation, and the entire process of product development.
Ecological aspects and sustainability are among our core competencies. The Department works closely at the interface between science and industry and brings in broad experiences, in addition to professional expertise from cooperation projects.
Other research interests are in the fields of robust design of mechatronic products, and product ergonomics, as well as perceived quality and innovation management.
Prof. Gust is Deputy Director of the Institute of Product Innovation (Solingen).
Prof. George Teodorescu, Director of Institute for Integral Innovation, and President of Danube Alps Ecosystem, DAC, for Integral Innovation, based in Meran, Italy.The Institute for Integral Innovation is dedicated to Kenotomy, the Art of Creative thinking, a comprehensive theory of original approaching and in depth understanding of problems and speculative, inductive reasoning.The integral innovation methodology relieves the original problem solving, by addressing specific fields and their core problems. It is a think tank of creative synergy and refreshing mental perspective.
From 1992-2012 Prof. Teodorescu, the author of this theory and methodology, directed a Master’s Education Program in Germany. In the current Certificate Program INTEGRAL INNOVATION he continues his didactic activity in cooperation with the Chair of Engineering Design and the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Wuppertal.
Prof. Teodorescu is an international consultant and frequently invited keynote speaker. He has been a jury member for design and innovation awards, and Visiting Professor at universities in Europe, Latin America and Asia.
From 2001-2005 he was an Executive Board Member of the world design organization ICSID and is currently its European consultant, as well as an adviser of ALADI - Latin America.
He is innovation adviser with companies such as STIHL, TRUMPF, ROCHE, INFICON, Singulus, etc.

Participants in the Certificate Program INTEGRAL INNOVATION must take the following steps:

Apply to the University of Wuppertal for the Program:• Fill out the application form available on: www.zwb.uni-wuppertal.de/intinno • A copy of your passport and your student ID• Copies of following records: - Proof of your B.A. or B.Sc. in Industrial Design, Mechanical Design or comparable program - Proof of English language skills (at least TOEFL level B1 or certificate of equal value)
Please, scan these documents as well as the signed application form and return them rolled into one PDF-document to [email protected] until December 29, 2017 at the latest.
A minimum of 21 applications is required for the Certificate Program INTEGRAL INNOVATION to take place. The program will not be launched for a smaller number of participants.
