Back Drop
• The Email capability (CC Mail) is been extremely inflexible.
• Access to information was uneven.• New System need to guarantee better
and more equal access of information to everyone.
• It took Hours for the clients to check the mails
• Failed to follow the flow of Mail Conversation.
TEAM ROOM
• Created by a team of researchers at Lotus Institute
• Operated on notes platform• A Web application designed to
support processes that help people work together
• IT acts as a space for virtual team discussions
• IT sychronise information among team members
Benefits of Team Room • Increase team productivity by discussing work in progress, asking questions,
sharing status, and clarifying issues that arise.• Team room provides an area for fostering and capturing communication
among team members, both near and far• Accountability among team members by managing and tracking work flow
and performance• By using the team room instead of email threads, you automatically receive
an audit trail of conversations and decisions• Shared repository for all documents.
Issues of Team Room• Main issue could be Internet Facility is not provided with Team
Room.• The Lotus struggled to develop Dominoe, a program that
would allow access to web applications as well as to internal application using Team Room.
• New Employers could learn faster which otherwise would take weeks to train them. But if the old employees does not maintained it properly no value is added to the new employees.

Issues of Team Room• But why would existing employees feed into the system if they don’t get
any reward for it.• One of the feature of team room is that it will archive anything after a
certain period of non use.• These issues created a foundation for KM System.

Knowledge ManagementWhat is Knowledge Management(KM)?"Knowledge management is the process of capturing, distributing, and effectively using knowledge.“
Working Design:• Captures Best Practices• Forms Body of Knowledge• Consultant Extracts “Best of the Best”
TR Vs KM• Team Room Approach—Treading from Discussion• KM Approach-”Vessel of Knowledge”
Integral Core Competency & KM Relationship:“Innovation Management is just an application of KM”
KM’s Pragmatic Approach• Establishing the bar-Setting up the Standards of Performance
• Bring Everyone up to the Bar-Implementing Practice Best Approach
• Through innovative synergies with the client-Adding Innovation/Value Addition
Reward:1. Impact on billable hours was the ultimate measure of success!!2. How to motivate employees?
Culture:3. People need to feel that they are personally adding value4. Relying on standardized and dependable solutions could discourage
innovation and creativity5. To put knowledge in to knowledge base, employees need to sit and think
which can cross billable hours too.
Technology1. Quality of information
--New role called “Knowledge czar” 2. People can put whatever they have into database which lacks the qualityOpportunity to redefine role of consulting 3. Internal process could drastically improve4. It saves so much of time by auto performing routine tasks5. Easy to understand for new employees6. Developing a complete guide can cannibalize future efforts with clients
Recommendations
• Should go through KM• Transforms the entire consulting process• Full potential hasn’t been realized• Overcoming the challanges
Action Plan for Recommendation
