What We Do Now

Specialized Tool

Manual processesLots of handovers and interfacesNo “single source of truth”

Why Not?

$$$

“We need to re-train everybody”

“It’ll take too long to implement”

“We couldn’t make it work when we tried it before”

“My schedule is too short and I can’t risk it”

“The way we do projects works, so why change”

“What is my ROI for integrated tools?”

• Need a project

• Need a Client who understands (or better requires) integrated tools

• Need to be realistic about implementation phases

• Need sufficient time to implement

• Need implementation support

• Need Organizational Change Management

How?

Page 12: Integrated Engineering Deployment in a New Engineering Office

• Fast Track EPCIC

• Client – PEMEX

• Started in June of 2016

• 30 Month Schedule – Award to Handover

• Execution Model – start in KL, move to Mexico City

NRF-107 – MODELOS ELETRONICOS BIDIMENSIONALES Y TRIDIMENSIONALES INTELEGENTES PARA INSTALACIONES

“2D and 3D Intelligent Electronic Models for Installations”

• Interconnected 2D & 3D Drawings

• Set hierarchy

• Linked Documents

Address “easy wins” and pain points for consistency

• AVEVA P&ID, Electrical, Instrumentation

• Model and P&ID Integration

• Schematic Model Manager

• Schematic 3D Integrator

• List Generation & Data Consistency

• AVEVA Engineering

Things Not Addressed

• Data Sheets – already had Client format & not enough time

• Structural Detailing – start of fabrication too fast to change systems, already partially integrated with PDMS

Our Approach:

• Strong Senior Leadership Support

• Deploy in New Office – less organizational resistance

• Leverage support from existing office SMEs for carry-over tools and expose them to the new tools

• Get the SMEs and front-line managers onboard with the new tools

From Here:

• Communications Plan

• Why, What, and How

• Posters, Demos, Online Videos

• Updated Procedures and Training

Organizational Change Management

• ROI can be difficult to calculate

o Every project is different

o Clients are different

o Companies guard their information – not a lot of sharing

• Our approach to ROI is in the interfaces

o Reduce waste & misordering of materials

o Increase engineering productivity and reduce engineering manhours

Expected ROI

There is a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel; however the industry still has a long way to go as a whole to unlock the potential of integrated engineering tools.

Success factors for integrated tools revolves around addressing organizational change management – without your people onboard, you won’t succeed.

Future state for the industry must revolve around data re-use which is enabled through Integrated Engineering Tools.
