Our community is a much better place because of your generosity. Your support of the WSU Integrated Wellness Complex (IWC) has allowed this dream to become reality and we are grateful for your investment in the future.

The 90,000 square-foot IWC will become a catalyst for new ideas and innovative solutions by: supporting existing academic programs and developing new programs in health sciences and services; advancing health care technologies; and inviting collaboration and partnerships with regional healthcare, fitness and wellness organizations.

“Making Progress” will be an ongoing communication providing an opportunity for you to view the evolution of the building and learn about the collaborative plans to provide a holistic learning environment.

Making ProgressWSU Integrated Wellness Complex

Construction Update

The IWC construction is “making progress” and is on schedule for August 2010 completion. With the onset of winter, construction crews had the exterior shell complete and the structure sealed so work could begin on interior components, including framing of rooms and the indoor track. The University is seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification.

A Model for the Future

The IWC is one of the first of its kind in the nation to truly integrate the six dimensions of wellness:

•intellectual•social•emotional•physical•occupational•spiritual

The IWC will house •exercise and

rehabilitative sciences•physical education and

recreation•health services

and counseling centers•recreation•intramural and fitness

programs

The complex will encompass general classrooms, learning laboratories, consultation and examination rooms, an indoor running track, cardiovascular fitness and strength training facilities, a gymnasium and study areas. Winona State University is committed to developing comprehensive health and wellness education and we are truly “making progress.”

Innovative Programming

Jeff Reinardy, Director of Fitness & Wellness at WSU, has played a key role in this project. He is excited about ongoing academic and program development, which will be a catalyst for new ideas and innovative solutions. According to Reinardy, the IWC programming will focus on engaging students, faculty and staff, cultivating relationships and encouraging collaborative efforts through both on and off campus partnerships.

Reinardy says “Being healthy is not just something that happens in college. It is knowledge that should be learned at a young age so healthy habits can be carried throughout life. Health is the number one economic and social issue in the US and the IWC will provide an environment that significantly impacts a healthy lifestyle.”

Online Technology

One new program will integrate health and wellness by incorporating online technology. Utilizing web-based wellness assessment tools, students will be able to create their own personalized lifestyle profile. Students will receive specifically tailored recommendations to implement their own wellness portfolio including the necessary tools to improve fitness, nutrition, reduce health risks and more.

A Very Special Thank-You

Once again Winona State University would like to thank all of our benefactors. You are truly lighting the way for students, education and a new generation of healthcare professionals.

Lighting the Way

Our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are coming together to light the way for our campus, our community and our world for generations to come.
