The intellectual property group (“IP group”) of Yulchon is one of Yulchon’s strongest
practice areas. The IP group consists of some of the most experienced intellectual property
attorneys in Korea. In addition, the IP group includes attorneys who have practiced abroad,
including the United States, who bring their global perspectives to Yulchon’s IP practice.

Korean legal system. for example, Mr. Young Hill Liew, who leads the IP group, is one of the

renowned for his international IP litigation experience. formerly, Mr. Liew served as a judge

I Young Hill Liew I Mr. Young Hill Liew is a partner in Yulchon’s IP group and heads the
group. Mr. Liew has gained expertise in IP law and insight into
international disputes by serving as a judge at the Patent Court and as
the first Director of International Affairs at the Supreme Court of Korea.
Through his precise analysis and multi-dimensional approach to
problems, Mr. Liew offers solutions that distinguish him from other IP
practitioners, giving him the edge that clients need in difficult legal
situations. His reputation has attracted various international clients
faced with complex IP legal issues, such as form factor, first Data,
Nuance and Pixel Plus.
Mr. Liew is the only practicing attorney who has served on the Korean
government’s IPR advisory panel for the Korea-U.S. free Trade
Agreement. In addition, he is the mediator with the most successful
record at the Korean Copyright Commission. In 2007, Mr. Liew became
the first Korean to give a lecture at The Hague Academy of International

I Jeong Yeol Choe I Mr. Jeong Yeol Choe is a partner in Yulchon’s IP group. Mr. Choe
served as a judge for twenty-one years at various courts, including
the Korean Patent Court and the Seoul Central District Court. During
his three year tenure as a judge at the Korean Patent Court, he gained
extensive experience in a wide range of intellectual property cases
and authored the trademark section of the Patent Trial Practice
Guidelines. Mr. Choe also served as a lecturer at various institutions,
including the Judicial Research and Training Institute, where he gave
lectures on various intellectual property related topics to trainees,
attorneys, and judges. In addition, Mr. Choe was a member of the

dispute resolution. Mr. Lee has developed considerable expertise in the
field of intellectual property rights and has successfully represented

I Young Jin Jung I
Young Jin Jung primarily practices in the areas of antitrust, international
trade and intellectual property and has acquired extensive theoretical
knowledge and experience in these areas. Mr. Jung has passed three
highly regarded Korean national examinations, namely the Korean
foreign Service Examination, Korean bar Examination and the
Examination for Higher Civil Service (International Trade). He has also
received his LL.M and J.S.D. from Yale Law School. Many experts
believe his publication “Rendezvous of fair Trade Act and Intellectual
Property Rights” provides a practical solution to the complicated
problem of balancing the fair Trade Act and Intellectual Property Rights.
Mr. Jung is widely recognized for his reputable expertise in the areas of
international dispute resolution regarding intellectual property rights
and the conflicting points arising when intellectual property issues are
governed by other Acts.

I Jeong Hun Ryu I
Jeong Hun Ryu received his LL.b. from Seoul National University in
1996 and completed the 33rd class of Judicial Research and Training
Institute in Korea. Since Mr. Ryu started working as an attorney at
Yulchon in 2005, he has primarily practiced in the area of intellectual
property litigation.
I Kyu Hyun Kim I Kyu Hyun Kim received his LL.b. from Seoul National University in
2001 and completed the 33rd class of Judicial Research and Training
Institute in Korea. Mr. Kim also completed the L.L.M. course in
intellectual property rights law at Seoul National University in 2005. He

I Moon Hee Kim I Moon Hee Kim received her b.A. in Chinese language from Hankuk
University of foreign Studies in 1999 and completed the 34th class of

I Kee Jeong Kim I Kee Jeong Kim received his LL.b. degree from Seoul National University

I Hyeong Joo Lim I Hyeong Joo Lim received his b.S. degree in Civil, Urban & GeoSystem

I Jeong Hoon Hwang I Jeong Hoon Hwang received his b.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Seoul National University in 1996. After passing the 38th Korean
Patent bar Examination in 2001, Mr. Hwang worked as a patent attorney
at Lee International IP & Law Group from 2002 to 2003 and Nam & Nam
World Patent and Law firm from 2005 to 2006. He completed the 37th

I Hojin Chang I Hojin Chang is a Senior foreign Counsel in Yulchon’s IP group. He is a
graduate of Duke University School of Law (J.D., 2001). He received a
b.S. (1993) in fiber & Polymer Science engineering from Seoul
National University. He is knowledgeable in both Korean and U.S. IP
laws as a result of his extensive experience working in Korean and
U.S. law firms. Mr. Chang first worked at Kim & Chang in Korea as a
Korean patent attorney (1996-1998) before attending Duke. After
graduating from Duke, he worked at Ropes & Gray (formerly with fish
& Neave) in New York (2001-2006). At Ropes & Gray, Mr. Chang
worked on various intellectual property matters, including intellectual
property litigation, patent procurement, licensing, and technology
transfer. Mr. Chang then moved to virginia to work for finnegan,
Henderson, farabow, Garret & Dunner (2006-2008). There, he
continued to build his IP practice by handling many of finnegan’s most
complicated IP projects, including representing clients before the U.S.
International Trade Commission. In 2008, Mr. Chang returned to Korea
and joined Yulchon. He is admitted to practice in New York and
virginia, and is a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office. He is also admitted to the Korean Patent bar.

I Moritz Winkler I Moritz Winkler graduated from Munich University, College of Law (Dipl.-
Jur. Univ., 2003). Upon graduation, he apprenticed with the Munich
Regional Court (2003-2005), and he passed the German bar examination
(Ass. jur., 2005). He served as an in-house counsel for Independent
Media AG, Munich (2003-2004) and as a researcher at the College of
Law, Hanyang University, Seoul (2005-2006). Since joining Yulchon in
2006, he has advised European and Korean clients on various IP-related
matters, such as patent and know-how licensing, trademark protection,
and IP litigation.
I David J. Linton I David J. Linton graduated from Columbia University (b.A., 1995) and
George Mason University Law School (J.D., 2003), after which he passed
the Alabama State bar Exam. After serving as a Judicial Clerk (2005) of
the Alabama Supreme Court and a lawyer for the Alabama Supreme
Court (2006), Mr. Linton has advised on all kinds of IP-related disputes at
