On January 19, Year 7 pupils set off on a fun-filled weekend away to Llangranog. Pupils took part in a range of activities throughout the weekend including, skiing, go karting, archery, horse riding, high ropes course (see below), rock climbing, swimming, quad biking and tobogganing. All the Year 7 pupils were fantastic throughout the trip, engaging and taking part in every activity available on offer to them! Da iawn! Inter-form Swimming Gala A very busy and successful sporting half term ended with our annual inter-form swimming gala. Years 7, 8 and 9 were involved in the gala and competed in several individual, medley and freestyle relay races to win points for their houses, Dwynwen, Ifor Bach and Llewellyn. The standard of swimming and engagement from all the pupils was fantastic! It was a pleasure to see so many pupils involved within the gala and we hope this continues next year!

Life in Llangranog! On January 19, Year 7 pupils set off on a fun-filled weekend away to Llangranog. Pupils

took part in a range of activities throughout the weekend including, skiing, go karting,

archery, horse riding, high ropes course (see below), rock climbing, swimming, quad biking

and tobogganing. All the Year 7 pupils were fantastic throughout the trip, engaging and

taking part in every activity available on offer to them! Da iawn!

Congratulations to Becci De Torres (Y9) on

winning Gold at the Urdd National

Swimming Gala. Becci competed in the

Individual Medley Girls Years 9 and 10

race, securing the Gold medal with an

outstanding time of 2.33.94.

Eisteddfod Dance Prelims After weeks of individually choreographing routines and continued practice, the year 7 and 8 pupils displayed their dances with the intent to qualify to the Eisteddfod finals! Over 60 girls were involved in the prelims and made such a fantastic effort, especially with costuming. Over 50 pupils came to offer their support. After deliberation from the judges, two groups qualified from year 7 and two from year 8 (see below). These four groups will go on to perform in the school Eisteddfod on Thursday 1st March 2018. Pob lwc to the finalists and a huge thank you to all the competitors. You were a pleasure to judge! YEAR 7 FINALISTS – Ellie John’s Group – 7 NORTH –Ifor Bach Jennifer Miller’s Group – 7 EAST – Dwynwen

Y7 Boys Rugby Success Year 7 have had another fantastic half term of sporting success. The latest result against St. Teilos saw Radyr winning 44-17. A very direct and physical performance with Thomas Evans (Y7) winning man of the match. Well done boys, keep up the great work!

Year 8 Hockey The Year 8 hockey team have had yet another successful half term with storming performances against Bishop of Llandaf (2-0), Cowbridge (2-1) and Cardiff High (4-0)! Keep up the hard work. We look forward to our County tournament, which takes place at Cowbridge Comprehensive School on the first Monday back after half term (26th). Hockey training takes place on Wednesday after school (3:20 – 4:20pm). All abilities welcome!

Congratulations Bethan Beynon (Y10) who achieved a bronze medal at the Urdd

National Swimming Gala. Bethan competed in the Backstroke Girls Years 9 and 10 race, securing the bronze medal with a fantastic

time of 1.20.12. Da iawn Bethan!

Gold for

Grace!

Congratulations to Grace Morgan (Y11) who

won Gold in the U17 Welsh Athletics 60M

Hurdles. Grace won gold after achieving a

PB of 8.69s. Grace is now the Welsh

Champion of this event! Amazing news.

Welsh League Karate! Congratulations to Angharad Ball

Davies (Y7) who competed in the Welsh

Karate league on January 28.

Angharad won silver in her category

and a bronze medal in the team

category! Well done Angharad, we are

so pleased for your success!

British Gymnast

Congratulations to Amelia Thomas (Y8) on selection for the British Gymnastics World

Class Programme 2018, as a member of the WAG junior squad. Fantastic news Amelia!

Two new clubs have been added to the

extra-curricular timetable. Get involved!

Thursday – KS3 Dance (Mixed) Miss Willis runs the Dance club every

Thursday lunchtime (12:20 – 1pm) in the old

Gymnasium. All abilities are welcome and so

far, the club has been a great success, with

10 year 7 boys and 20 year 7 & 8 girls

taking part. If you want to get involved,

please see a member of the PE department.

Monday – Girls Rugby (WRU)

Rhian Gower is a WRU development officer

who coaches girls’ rugby, which takes place

every Monday after school on the field.

The girls are currently focusing on tackling,

which is great fun!

All abilities are welcome from all year

groups. If you want to get involved, please

see a member of the PE department.
