Fresh off our 25th anniversary milestone, we are excited to bring you another spectacular and provocative season. As a subscriber, you’ll enjoy preferred seating and significantly discounted tickets. We open with a daring drama – We Are Proud to Present… by Jackie Sibblies Drury – that puts you in the rehearsal room for a fascinating look at race, history and the creative process. In January, Johnna Adams’ intense and cathartic Gidion’s Knot invites you into an elementary school classroom in the wake of recent tragedy. A. Zell Williams’ drama, Down Past Passyunk, gives you an inside look at the changing human landscape of South Philly next April. And we’ll close with the sassy new comedy, Ritu Comes Home by Peter Gil-Sheridan, which welcomes you into a posh suburban house where the “third-world” is knocking on the door. Our 26th season provides a window into four extraordinary worlds and promises to keep you on the edge of your seat -- thinking, feeling and laughing. Please join us for this outstanding line-up and help us continue to bring new voices to the stage year after year. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre! A grieving mother arrives at her son’s school looking for answers following his sudden death. She is met by his bewildered and fragile teacher who is barely holding it together. As their tense, emotionally-charged parent/teacher conference unfolds, reasons for the boy’s death become more complex and alarming. Adams’ gripping drama draws us into an intensely personal battle to understand the vivid imagination and tortured soul of one extraordinary ten year-old boy.

Hot from its New York debut comes one of the most talked about plays of the season from one of the brightest new voices in American theatre! An ensemble of actors comes together to create a play about an obscure 20th century genocide. What begins as an amicable workshop unravels into a storm of competing egos and confl icting agendas. From the mire of creativity, hidden hatred and dormant violence bubble to the surface forcing these “post-race” Millennials to confront their true nature. At once chilling and fi ercely funny, We Are Proud to Present… brings the past and present together with “incendiary results.” –The New York Times

“Confounds expectations and explodes clichés”–DC Theatre Scene

“Impressively navigates the tricky boundaries that separate art and life” –The New York Times

Would you give money to feed a child in a third world country? Brendan and Jason, an affl uent couple from Bryn Mawr, PA, proudly pay 80 cents a day to support their “adopted” Bangladeshi daughter while spending their days drinking, eating, drinking, shopping, dissing, and drinking. Until one day, when the child-turned-teenager magically appears in their living room, turning everyone’s lives upside down. What follows is an irreverent and imaginative romp exploring the meaning of home and family in an increasingly globalized world.

Grillo’s Steaks -- one of South Philly’s famous landmarks -- is at a crossroads. Longtime owner Nicky Grillo is embroiled in a public relations nightmare ever since he asked one of his customers to “speak English” when ordering a cheesesteak. As he watches his community rapidly diversify, Nicky pits himself against his spirited daughter, his oldest friend and a popular new Mexican steak shop across the street. In the City of Brotherly Love, how far will one man go to keep his neighborhood All-American?
