Thatplaqueconstantlyremindsmethatcustomersatisfaction,whileaverygoodthingandrightlyexpectedbythecustomer,isn’ttheultimategoal.Whenacustomerpaysthepriceaskedforsomeproductorserviceandfindsthepurchase“satisfac-tory”boththebuyerandsellerhavemadeanevenexchange.Thebuyerhastheproductorservice,thesellerhasthemoney.Bothhavebeensatisfiedwiththetransaction.Theultimategoalthoughistosomehowhavethecustomerreturnformore.Iftheyaremerelysatisfied,dotheyfeelcompelledtoreturn? Obviouslythesellerwantsthebuyertoreturnwhennextinneedofsomethingthesellerhasforsale.Thebuyer,however,probablyfeelsthattheycanbesatisfiedbyalmostanysellerforaboutthesamepriceanddoesn’tfeelcompelledtoreturnunlessthesellerdoesmoretotipthebalanceoftheevenexchangetomakethecustomerfeeltheyreceived(orwillreceive)morethanfullvalue.Then,insteadofbeingsatisfied,theybecomedelighted,evenecstatic.
