“Design is about mastering the practice of viewing the world through different lenses. One must possess the ability to simultaneously be mindful of the individual while

considering everything from global issues to the finest of details. While keeping with these key practices the delivered product is always of the highest quality.”

corporate design

IdeaologyWe find ourselves in a dynamic world that is constantly reinventing itself. Man has evolved from trying to satisfy his basic physiological needs to striving for a constant state of self-actualization. We believe this state is achieved through conciliation of the past and the future, global communication, a balance of internal and external focus, and collaboration. “Think globally, act locally.” Employees are encouraged to revisit their roots in order to reflect on a personal, business, and global space. By critically examining the past and present, the future can be carefully planned.

Bridging PragueTo activate the various areas of the Vltava while accenting the existing city-scape with a fixed architectural gesture we proposed a floating city--the Lazy Caterpillar. Conceived of unique modules threaded by a pedestrian walkway the system can travel to various areas of the Vltava, creating pedestrian connections between different nodes. In this new type of floating urbanism the program is free to rearrange and change form as required dynamically informed by carrying contexts. Independently, each program pod operates like a houseboat. Each unit has a unique structured roof reflecting the historical context of the city. Also each unit has been dedicated to collecting water samples at carious depths throughout the functioning of this intervention. The data will be stored and accessible to researchers, environmentalists, and offers a baselines to help coordinate water quality efforts.

In order to resolve ecological issues we proposed a two phase methodology. First stage: raise awareness for quality of the river and impact prior to industrialization had expounds on the efforts done to restore the Vltava to its pristine nature. Second stage: pearl concept engaged with the dredging, by cleansing the riverbed. Pearls are formed by covering a foreign contaminate with calcium carbonate until the object is harmless. The dredging facility form a pearl of the river by restoring the damage done by pollutants from the industrial conquest and bring back the iridescent beauty of the river.

Alzheimer’s Research InstituteOur concept is to take the characteristics of the cooperative, altruistic elephant community and translate it into a warm, personal, supportive environment in the Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute. The journey of an elephant clan inspired the memory supportive layout of the Institute. Our goal is to create a space that embodies comfort and relaxation through moments of pause. In these places of rest those affected by Alzheimer’s disease can stop and reflect on their journey together.

The phrase “and elephant never forgets” comes from the fact that when elephants travel memories are retained through the aid of landmarks that allows them to create spacial maps. Similarly, our design implements nodes that react through the architecture of the building. Four main nodes are articulated through curvilinear forms that interrupt that orthogonal elements to create landmarks.

ArmoiresInspired by the boardwalk resort at Disney, the following is a collection of armoires. A total 11 armoires were designed, constructed and currently located at Disney’s Vacation Club Villas. These armoires were each mass produced 52 times (total of 572).

Disney undergoes resort refurbishments of guest rooms every 5-7 years due to their high foot-traffic and turn over rate. While soft-goods are generally refurbished every 5-7 years, hard-goods such as these armoires are only changed out every 10-12 years depending on the wear and tear of each unit.

The client’s main goal for these armoires were that they brought the guests to a new destination, have a level of luxury, but still manage to have a touch of commonplace. I implemented these drivers through the use of architectural elements such as datum, ornate, and repetition.

Government HouseCapitalizing on the Government House as a cultural symbol in St. Augustine, the University of Florida’s Research Institute of St. Augustine (RISA) serves as a medium for the public. RISA provides a foundation for community integration with the latest in innovative technology and education while upholding sustainable practices.

The idea of porosity will play a major role in the development of the design. Tectonically speaking, the use of glass and implied enclosures will create spaces within spaces while still allowing a visual connection between spaces.

In order to modernize the building, the integration of technology will be installed to explore the layers of our history and to encourage visitors of this generation. This will be done through a text-messaging tour and interactive touch screens that allow users to learn more about St. Augustine through the touch of a button.

Different types of interactions were explored in the design, from visitors interacting with historical events to students interacting with the community.

Flex HouseThe Flex House is a flexible, modular building system that can adapt easily to different site situations and plan configurations. The main body of the house can be shipped on one truck (to minimize on shipping costs) and quickly deployed on the site. Sliding modules contract into the main body during shipping and roll out at the site to maximize the floor area. The Flex House is designed for a young couple living in central Florida’s hot and humid climate an intense solar radiation. Our proposal will combine the wisdom of vernacular Florida houses and our team’s years of experience in Zero Energy Homes (ZEH) technologies to make a state of the art ZEH.

A contemporary ZEH in Central Florida must take advantage of passive cooling and heating in the mild months and utilize highly efficient mechanical cooling during the months when temperature are too high for passive cooling strategies. This hybrid open and closed building type home will be reflected in the design of the landscape, floor plan, building section, and building envelope and will dictate the choice of building materials and mechanical systems.
