Internal is a term used to describe

a device that is installed within the

computer. For example, a video card is

an internal device and a printer is an

external device. When referring to a

drive, an internal drive (e.g. internal hard

drive) is any drive inside the computer.

A switched-mode power supply (SMPS) is an

electronic circuit that converts power using

switching devices that are turned on and off at

high frequencies, and storage components such as

inductors or capacitors to supply power

when the switching device is in its non-

conduction state.

Once data has been written onto

a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and

can only be read. Unlike main memory

(RAM), ROM retains its contents even

when the computer is turned off. ROM is

referred to as being nonvolatile, whereas

RAM is volatile. ... A variation of

a ROM is a PROM (programmable read-

only memory).

Random-access memory (RAM) is a type

of computer data storage. A RAM device

makes it possible to access data in

random order, which makes it very

fast to find a specific piece of

information.

external device - Computer Definition.

Any peripheral device that is not housed

inside the computer cabinet. Monitors,

keyboards, mice and printers are

inherently external devices;

however, drives, network adapters and

modems may also be external.

See external drive, external modem and

In computing, a computer keyboard is a

typewriter-style device which uses an

arrangement of buttons or keys to act as a

mechanical lever or electronic switch.

Following the decline of punch

cards and paper tape,

interaction via teleprompter-

style keyboards became the main input device

for computers.

The mouse, sometimes called a pointer, is a

hand-operated input device used to manipulate

objects on a computer screen.

Whether the mouse uses a laser or ball, or is

wired or wireless, a movement detected from

the mouse sends instructions to the

computer to move the cursor on the

screen in order to interact with files, windows,

and other software elements.

A scanner is a device that captures images from photographic

prints, posters, magazine pages, and similar sources for

computer editing and display. Scanners come in hand-held,

feed-in, and flatbed types and for

scanning black-and-white only, or color. Very

high resolution scanners are used for

scanning for high-resolution printing, but lower

resolution scanners are adequate for capturing

images for computer display. Scanners usually

come with software, such as Adobe's Photoshop product, that

lets you resize and otherwise modify a captured image.
