A unique feature of the UK HealthCare campus is that it is located side-by-side the main Lexington campus—we are one university spanning the entire spectrum of academic colleges. Biomedical Informatics became a new division in Internal Medicine within the College of Medicine in 2015 with the arrival of the new Chief of the department, Dr. GQ Zhang. The mission of the division is to translate data to knowledge with the goal to improve human health.

Faculty develops tools and methods for clinical data science and translational informatics covering such areas as:

• Algorithms for analyzing large amounts of data generated in public health, clinical research, and genomics/proteomics

• Cognitive science• Databases• Data capture• Data integration• Data mining (deriving new knowledge from large databases)• Decision support• Information retrieval• Human interface design• Machine learning • Natural language processing

LYNNE A. JENSEN, APRN, PhD

Medical Director

The Center for the Advancement of Women’s Health serves three primary purposes: to provide high quality, comprehensive medical services for women; to educate patients and the community about women’s health through educational and community outreach programs; and to expand medical research opportunities for women that encourage advancements in the field of women’s health through our Kentucky Women’s Health Research Registry and clinical trials.

The Kentucky Women’s Health Registry is an opportunity for women in Kentucky to make a tremendous contribution to the future of women’s health. The registry is a simple survey that can be completed online or in paper form. It is completely confidential, with a certification of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health. The survey takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete and includes demographic information and personal health history. Statistics from the data collected will be used by public health departments to obtain funding for women’s services and by local and state governments to better understand how to serve the needs of women in Kentucky.

The registry survey is available online at ukhealthcare.uky.edu/obgyn/services/health/registry or you can request a mail-in survey by calling 859-323-5709 or 800-929-2320.

UK Well Woman Clinic

The UK Well Woman Clinic provides patients with a convenient way to have all annual exams and tests completed in one appointment. This option for busy and active women is available to healthy patients between the ages of 40 and 64 who have no active health disorders.

The Division of Hematology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation was founded in 1982. The program’s staff includes experts in both autologous transplants, which use stem cells from the patient, and allogeneic procedures, which use stem cells from a donor.

The program, a part of UK Markey Cancer Center, is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. It is also a collection center for the National Marrow Donor Program. The immuno-molecular pathology laboratory is certified by both the American Society for Histocompatibility and Cytogenetics as well as the Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments.

Transplant Team and Nursing

Our attending physicians are trained in medical hematology and oncology, and each brings specific expertise in transplants and blood-related cancers. We take a highly integrated approach to medicine and patients in the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. We have access to experts in every medical and surgical subspecialty. The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program employs a dietitian and a team of social workers for both inpatient and outpatient consultation. Four disease-team leaders coordinate inpatient and outpatient care.
