Bagler, the burglar ofPawnshop in SingarajaResults given to a café girl from Bandung

to Bandung perform the action?Chief of Buleleng Police Yudi

Hartanto when asked for his confirma-tion, last Saturday (Aug 14), said thearrest of the suspect was started fromthe information given by a cellularphone shopkeeper located aroundSukasada saying that there was a mancarrying a cell phone and wanted todelete the photos of a woman. Face ofthe woman was very similar to RestiNirmala Mirza becoming the robberyvictim in the Pawnshop Office. Basedon that information, police suspected ifthe man deleting those photos was therobbery suspect. In the incident, otherthan taking the money and gold, the bur-glar also took the cell phone belongingto the victim.

Having been identified, in fact theman was Mertayasa living on JalanGajah Mada, Singaraja. Suspicion ofpolice was getting stronger because, according to information, Mertayasasuspected in fact has departed toBandung to accompany his girlfriendhomecoming. The Mobile DetectiveUnit also continued to chase him up toBandung. Unfortunately, Bagler whoalready had a wife and son has returnedto Bali since his uncle died. Police de-cided to wait for the suspect at NgurahRai Airport, dogged him and finallyambushed him in Singaraja City. (118)

land here (in Nusa Penida—ed) alsoenables for the development of gogorancah rice variety,” he added.

However, after the 1980s there wasa great climate change making the gogorancah rice cultivation was no longerproviding adequate benefits for resi-dents. In fact, people lose money be-cause the maintenance cost turned muchmore expensive than the results ob-tained. “Climate change caused increas-ingly erratic and less rainfall in NusaPenida. Farmers usually cultivated ricebased on rainfall estimates. Apparently, their estimate misses the target becauseit did not rain accordingly. Finally, therice could not grow well,” said Danaya.

Such a condition had an impact on thedeclining number of residents that plantedthe gogo rancah variety. Meanwhile, thosepersisting were also distraught. They didnot only lack for water, but should alsoface the attack of wild birds getting morevicious. “Birds also become a constraintfor the development of gogo rancah ricevariety,” he said. (kmb20)

Mangupura (Bali Post) –Poverty’s causing factor is com-

plex not only the people’s quality, access or the government’s avail-ability, but also the people’s men-tal behavior. At least, this is alsoone that made Badung region’spoverty prevention program hadproblems. Until now it’s still foundpeople who are lazy, won’t use anopportunity and wait for someone’shelp instead.

Head of Commission C of theBadung Regence House of Repre-sentatives, I Nyoman Satria, men-tioned there are actually job oppor-tunities in Badung mostly on tour-ism as it’s the most important andproved to be a Region’s Trusted In-come (PAD) contributor for 93 per-cent. This means tourism movesdynamically and became the cen-ter to the people’s development.

Even though, tourism is not theonly option. A multiplier effectfrom tourism can be used as a guar-anteed opportunity. For examplethe Micro and Middle Business(UMKM), “Only now, is the pub-lic going to use these opportunitiesgiven or not.”

According to Satria, thesepeople are still disadvantaged andnot bothered to grab an opportunitygiven caused by their lazy “dis-ease”. More over, many of them are“proud” to be poor as in some whoseem advantaged admits disadvan-taged. They did this to wait for ei-ther government or non govern-ment kindly help. And so the helps

During work days, the govern-ment central became bureaucratsplace to do its activities and alsoas Badung’s representatives’place working. And during thistime, the gate is always opened.Of course there are security yetpublic doesn’t have to ask for per-mits when going in.

During holidays it’s different. It became a sporting place fromjogging to cycling and also for thepublic’s hang out place. Teenag-ers also hanged out there, takepictures, dating or wrongly usedit as a place to show off their mo-torcycling.

Number of officials such as theRegent himself was exercising inthis area. The Regent always usedhis spare time to jog around and

He admittedthe rain season was longer this yearand in the south part of Karangasemwas often hit by heavy rain but inKudu itself one to two times a day. With dry season should’ve been uponus, the flowering cashew and mangotrees had its flowers damaged as ev-ery time rain stops, the sun comes outand causes flowers to fall, “The con-dition is threatening cashew andmango trees which are the main cropsfor farmers from Kubu, Abang andsome other areas in Karangasem andnow has its harvest threaten.”

There’s a different atmosphere when coming in Badung’s government central, ManguprajaMandala at Sempidi especially during holidays as a month ago it was still opened for public.Lately, it became much haunted as Badung Police Civil Service officials tighten the security. It’salways closed and those who want to come in have to have the officials’ permit. What happened? Is this connecting to the incident affecting Badung Regent AA Gde Agung?

enjoying the view of the paddy-field joint to the central’s area asit is a quite comfortable place forsports. According to a worker inthe government central said, onetime the Regent was enjoying jog-ging then all of a sudden a motor-bike ridden by a youngster almosthit him. Apparently it was theyoungster who was being carelessand so spontaneously the Regentwas shocked and angry. Not sureif the Regent told off the young-ster, yet not long after he went tothe Police Civil Service and or-dered at that time to close the gatesduring holidays, “His order was, just the important ones are al-lowed. If it’s for sports or hangingout you’re allowed. But motor-bikes have to be put near the po-

lice post in the front gate.”So, since this incident, its secu-

rity during holidays was tightenedand must report to the guard post.

Head of Public Relation and Pro-tocol, Badung Regional Secretary, IGede Wijaya, on Sunday (15/8) con-firmed has heard the incident yetdon’t know the truth as he doesn’tknow it himself, “I also heard of it,yet I don’t know if it’s true or not.And it doesn’t have anyting to dowith the central government.”

Wijaya mentioned, this tightensecurity is to keep the place se-cure and comfortable. People areallowed to use it but has to guardits security and environment pres-ervation more, “Of course it’s stillopened. People can join in toguard it and preserve it.” (ded)

Public’s Mental BehaviorBecame the Biggest Challenge

go to the wrong target. The Badung Regence House of

Representatives Vice Leader, IKetut Suiasa, stated the same thing. Some of the poverty factors inBadung are such as urbanization, global economic influencing con-sumers and the public’s mental be-havior or character. From all ofthem, the toughest challenge wasthe public’s mental behavior mostinfluenced by the social diseasesuch as gambling. It still needs ex-tra effort to change this behaviorand its little fighting spirit espe-cially for working.

This public’s way of thinkingwas also admitted by BadungRegence Economy and Develop-ment Board Assistant, I WayanSuambara. The man who works asHead of Badung Regional Devel-opment and Research Board(Bappeda and Litbang) mentioned, this mental behavior became theproblem in the region government’spoverty prevention program, “Thisalso became the problem to data thedisadvantaged people.”

Suambara clarif ied, thegovernment’s help is not a mea-surement. In taking care of pov-erty besides giving stimulus ma-terially it’s also given throughmorally. Of course it’s not easy tochange the people’s way of think-ing yet united efforts are beingdone.

Suiasa also mentioned, thegovernment’s act in changing thepeople’s character is very vital as

government shouldn’t just do awhile pragmatic effort instead itcontinues. For example, if gov-ernment only gives business train-ing or built a training center onlywithout thinking its distribution,it will expire. So the continuityhas to be thought through, “If it’staken seriously and there are jointwork relations with all sides, thenthe effort to prevent poverty willbe more effective.”

Suambara mentioned, 2009 datamentioned there are 3266 Disad-vantaged Families (RTM). Thisnumber significantly decreased37,20 percent from four years agowhich was 5,201 RTM. From forthe 14 indicators to classify dis-advantaged people nationally,Badung was much tighter only us-ing 9 indicators. Which meanse, if14 of them applied, the number ofRTM in Badung is much less thanwhat’s in the data now.

Even though, the poverty pre-vention quality is not gettinglower. The Badung government istaking steps and integrated withconnected boards in tackling it.The budget for this in year 2010reached IDR 101,4 Billion. Thiscame from Badung Regence Bud-gets and Expenses with IDR 78,7Billion, from Bali Province Bud-gets and Expenses IDR 11,6 Bil-lion and Country’s Budget IDR 10Billion, “With this composition itbecame the mirror of the Badunggovernment’s fighting effort intackling RTM.” (ded)

One of the farmers from BaantasKubu, Made Surung, both plants arefarmers’ harvest hopefuls during dryseason as in this season farmers can’tplant anything such as arable crops.

Daryana added saying, the threathas caused farmers loss on medicineand fertilizer as farmers in Tamansariare mostly farmer staffs that only relyon the harvest, “If its harvest failed, what can they hope for?”

Daryana said the condition couldcause food crisis and people pooreras the cashew trees started to diecaused by white root mushrooms(JAP) which can’t be treated. Thevictimized cashew trees will bendlower, weaker, has it leaves fallingthen die. There’s some that felldown before it died as the rootswere first rotten and couldn’t barethe high speed wind, “At south partof Kubu almost no cashew treesgrew there which was caused by thedeadly mushroom.” (013)

“At the moment it looks like itcould be a hung parliament,”Michele Levine, chief executive ofthe Roy Morgan polling group, toldAFP on Sunday.

The latest Roy Morgan poll, which surveyed close to 1,000 vot-ers across the country on Saturday, found centre-left Labor had the sup-port of 51 percent of voters and theright-leaning Liberal/National coa-lition some 49 percent.

Former lawyer Gillard has con-ceded that she is heading into oneof the tightest races in the nation’shistory, after a Nielsen poll releasedSaturday put her ahead 53 to 47 per-cent and a Newspoll found shewould just scrape into government.

“I’m keenly aware that as we gointo the final week, if today’s pollsare right, then Mr Abbott could endup prime minister by the end of thenext Saturday,” 48-year-old Gillardsaid ahead of Monday’s campaignlaunch. Polling in recent weeks hasfound that Labor is losing groundagainst Abbott, an unlikely chal-lenger nicknamed the “Mad Monk”who only became opposition leaderlast year after bruising party infight-ing on climate change.

SYDNEY – Australia was Sunday heading for a knife-edge election, with no party streakingahead in opinion polls with less than a week to go, raising the prospect of the first hung parliamentin 70 years. As Labor Prime Minister Julia Gillard, the first woman to lead the country, battles anenergised conservative opposition headed by the plain-speaking Tony Abbott, polls predict thatthe August 21 contest could go down to the wire.

Kevin Rudd in her own party coupin late June.

“That really plagued the whole ofthe Labor Party’s first few weeks,”Levine said. “There’s a clear indica-tion, in both our national polling andour marginal seat polling, that thereis a move to the coalition,” she added.Although the candidates are starklydifferent — Welsh-born Gillard is acareer woman who has never mar-ried or had children while Abbott isa conservative family man who oncetrained to become a Catholic priest— the campaign has been criticisedas uninspiring.

Labor is leaning heavily on itsperformance during the global finan-cial crisis — arguing that its massivestimulus package kept the economyout of recession and saved tens ofthousands of jobs.

It is promising to develop infra-structure — including a high-speednational broadband Internet network— and improve Sydney’s congestedrail links if reelected.

On climate change — a key factorin the 2007 election which sawLabor’s Rudd topple conservativeprime minister John Howard, endinghis 11-year-rule — Gillard has repeat-edly said she believes climate changeis real and wants to put a price on car-bon emissions.

The outspoken and gaffe-proneAbbott, a former Rhodes scholar andminister in the Howard government, hasmeanwhile vowed to cut governmentspending to reduce national debt and“stop the boats” of asylum seekers.

Political analyst ClementMacintyre said while it was an his-toric vote because it was the first timeAustralians have a chance to vote fora party led by a woman, the campaignhas been lacklustre.

“While the polling is so close bothsides are conscious that one mistakecould cost office and they are lessbold and adventurous,” Macintyre, who is head of politics at the Univer-sity of Adelaide, told AFP.

The last time Australia faced ahung parliament was in September1940 when the United AustraliaParty/Country Party coalition and thecombined Labor parties each won 36seats, leaving the balance of powerwith two independents.

Haydon Manning, head of politicsat Flinders University in South Aus-tralia, said a similar result in 2010 wasunlikely, but Saturday’s electioncould leave the Greens holding thebalance of power in the upper house.

“As a consequence ... whoeverforms government in the lower house, will have to go cap in hand frequentlyto negotiate with the Greens,” he said.

WASHINGTON - The IMF askedMalaysia Friday to take “decisive”action on reforms under a model pro-gram aimed at revamping a controver-sial four-decade-old affirmative actionpolicy.

Malaysian Prime Minister NajibRazak announced in March a “NewEconomic Model” or NEM, aimed atreforming elements of the policyfavouring the country’s majority eth-nic Malays in a bid to boost economiccompetitiveness.

Details of the reform program, in-cluding its timing, have not been an-nounced yet.

The Washington-based Interna-tional Monetary Fund said Friday itwas looking forward to the NEM’srollout.

In a report after annual consulta-tions between the IMF executive boardand the Malaysian government, thefund acknowledged the “ambitious vi-sion” of Najib’s administration for afar-reaching economic transformationover the longer term.

The board directors “agreed that thecomprehensive structural reformagenda, at the heart of the New Eco-nomic Model, holds out promise offaster and inclusive growth,” the re-port said.

“Directors looked forward to a de-cisive effort and sustained momentumin implementing this agenda,” it said.

They also called for an “effectivecommunication strategy” to forge“broad public support” for these ef-forts.

“Further gradual liberalization ofproduct and labor markets will helpexploit policy complementarities, en-courage private investment and har-ness the benefits of reform,” the re-port said.

The Federal Open MarketCommittee’s decision Tuesday tomaintain rates at zero to 0.25 per-cent, a policy adopted since De-cember 2008, was adding to uncer-tainty over US economic recoveryprospects, said Thomas Hoenig, president of the Federal ReserveBank of Kansas City.

“As much as I want short-termimprovement, I am mindful of pos-sible longer-term consequences ofzero interest rates and further eas-ing actions,” Hoenig said at a com-munity gathering in Nebraskastate.

“Zero rates during a period ofmodest growth are a dangerousgamble,” he said.

Hoenig is the only one of theFOMC’s 10 members who has atall its meetings this year votedagainst the decision to keep inter-est rates extraordinarily low for an“extended period.”

“Rather than improve economicoutcomes, I worry that the FOMC

TOKYO - Japan Prime MinisterNaoto Kan said Saturday he wouldmonitor closely the strength of the yenand hinted at holding talks with the cen-tral bank chief amid the recent rise ofthe unit, Jiji Press reported.

“I want to continue to closely watch”currency market moves, Kan wasquoted by Jiji as telling reporters afterthe dollar hit a 15-year low of 84.73yen before easing earlier this week.

The greenback rose back above the86-yen level on news that Japanese of-ficials showed concern over the unit’sstrength, which poses a threat to theexport sector driving Japan’s fragileeconomic rebound.

is inadvertently adding to ‘uncer-tainty’ by taking such actions,” heargued, citing previous recessions.

The US economy began grow-ing in the middle of last year af-ter a brutal recession but expan-sion has moderated in recentmonths, raising the prospect of theeconomy contracting again inwhat many call a double-dip re-cession.

Analysts said the remarks byHoenig, the longest-serving of theFederal Reserve’s 12 district bankpresidents, were an unusuallyscathing attack on US monetarypolicy by a FOMC member.

“I have to say that I have never,in nearly 20 years of watching theFed, seen a speech quite like thisfrom a member of the FOMC,” re-marked analyst Stephen Stanley ofPierpont Securities.

“Within the constraints of howFederal Reserve officials operate,I would call this a scathing cri-tique of monetary policy now and

over the last 10 years.”Hoenig said the recession that

struck the US economy in Decem-ber 2007 was not caused by highinterest rates “but by low ratesthat contributed to excessive debtand leverage among consumers, businesses and government.”

He said he agreed that the Fed-eral Reserve needed to keep itspolicy rate accommodative butpointed out that the economy now“is improving and is growing” ata rate faster than the last two re-coveries.

“We need to get off of the emer-gency rate of zero, move rates upslowly and deliberately. This willalign more closely with theeconomy’s slow, deliberate recov-ery so that policy does not lag therecovery.

“In trying to use policy as acure-all, we will repeat the cycleof severe recession and unemploy-ment in a few short years by keep-ing rates too low for too long.”

Japan’s PM to watch closelystrength of yen: Jiji

Kan also voiced hope of holdinga meeting with Bank of Japan gov-ernor Masaaki Shirakawa on foreignexchange rates, saying: “I have notdecided when and how, but want tohave necessary forms of communi-cations.”

Finance Minister Yoshihiko Nodahas earlier said he wanted the Bank ofJapan to “cooperate” more with thegovernment to tackle the rising yen, ina sign of fresh pressure on the bodyfrom officials.

For every one-yen rise in thecurrency’s value against the dollar, companies can lose tens of billions ofyen earned overseas when repatriated, threatening a sector that Japan dependson to offset its weak domestic picture.

IMF asks Malaysia to take”decisive” action on reforms

Najib, who came to office last year, said the New Economic Model wasdesigned to boost growth, create ahigh-quality workforce, and attractbadly needed foreign investment.

The model also aims to stemMalaysia’s “brain drain” with mea-sures to retain skilled professionals, and make markets more competitiveby phasing out price controls and sub-sidies.

The affirmative action policy whichhands Malays privileges in housing, education and business has beencriticised as uncompetitive and im-properly benefiting the elites.

Under the planned changes to thepolicy, the government will seek toraise the income levels of all disad-vantaged groups, rather than focusingsolely on ethnic Malays, the dominantethnic group in the Southeast Asiannation.

Najib’s reforms face oppositionfrom conservative Malay rightsgroups.

The country has sizeable ethnicIndian and Chinese minorities, whomostly deserted Najib’s ruling coali-tion in 2008 elections.

The IMF also said that Malaysia’snear-term growth prospects were fa-vorable.

The economy was projected to ex-pand by 6.7 percent in 2010 but growthis expected to moderate to 5.3 percentin 2011, the IMF report said.

It also said that IMF staff feltMalaysia’s ringgit currency appearedto be “weaker than its equilibriumlevel in real effective terms.”

The IMF executive board, accord-ing to the report, agreed with the Ma-laysian authorities’ view that a stron-ger ringgit could boost over time therole of domestic demand as a growthdriver and promote a shift towardhigher-value added industries.

“We have to check with Chineseartefacts to confirm whether it is theoldest watercraft ever found in the

world.”One of the oldest boats or related

artefacts was found in China’sZhejiang province in 2005 and wasbelieved to date back about 8,000years.

The oar, which was found intactin its entirety, is 1.81 metres (nearlysix feet) long.

“The oar was well preserved be-cause fine mud layers completelyblocked oxygen from decaying it,”

Yoon said.It was uncovered on August 11 at

a site where experts in 2004 unearthedthe fragments of what is believed tobe two up to 8,000-year-old canoe-like boats, which are believed to havebeen 13.1 feet long in their originalstate.

The oar and boats were made frompine trees, Yoon said.

The technique that made them in-dicate there might have been a cer-

tain form of neolithic period tradeusing boats between Japan and theKorean peninsula.

“With this set, we can picturetrade between the Korean peninsulaand Japan, sailing techniques and alifestyle back then,” Yoon said, pointing to a similar find in Japan.

Japanese archaeologists discov-ered an oar, believed to date backabout 6,000 years, on the Sea ofJapan (East Sea) coast in 1999.

MANCHESTER - Dimitar Berbatov, Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs scored as Manches-ter United began their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 win over Newcastle here onMonday giving the losers a sharp reminder of the gulf in class between the Championshipand the elite league.

Giggs extended the advantagewith a third goal with five min-utes remaining maintaining his ex-traordinary record of havingscored in all 19 seasons he hasplayed in the top flight.

Chelsea ended United’s run ofthree successive Premier Leaguetitles with their victory last sea-son but began their attempts towin the crown for a record 19thtime in some style.

Newcastle’s survival chanceswill never be judged on trips toOld Trafford but they showed theyare well-organised and AndyCarroll looks like he might man-age the step up to the top flight. They began by managing to con-tain their hosts and Rooney’shopeful curled effort as the onlyoccasion that the Old Trafford sidethreatened in the early stages.

And the newly-promoted sideshould have taken the lead whenCarroll met Joey Barton’s cornerunmarked from six yards butglanced his header wide.

Nani had a long-range effort de-flected wide and then thumped a freekick into the wall as the home side’sfrustration continued.

Carroll went close again with a

25-yard drive that was held by goal-keeper Edwin van der Sar. Evenwhen James Perch and MikeWilliamson were guilty of slackclearances, Nani failed to take ad-vantage for United.

But the Portuguese did force ascrambling punch from Steve Harperwith a lofted cross to the far post forBerbatov. And Rooney also lifted ashot over the bar after Berbatov headeddown Antonio Valencia’s cross.

But just after the half hour, thehome team grabbed the lead whenValencia robbed Jonas Gutierrez inmidfield, and John O’Shea fedScholes, who slid through forBerbatov to find the corner of the net.Barton tested van der Sar once againwith a powerful strike to the nearpost.

But United doubled their lead be-fore the interval thanks to fine workby Patrice Evra. The French defenderburst into the area and his low crosshad too much on it for Rooney, butFletcher fired in on the turn.

Two of the home team’s veteranscombined to put the game well be-yond Newcastle. A short corner wasworked in-field and Scholes pickedout Giggs, who found the corner witha placed volley.

Bremen’s Real fight to keep Ozilas Sampdoria loom

Spanish giants looming, Werder’s di-rector of sport Klaus Allofs admits theyhave rejected an initial offer from Real, but he expects further negotiations.

Real are eager to sign Ozil beforeWednesday’s Champions League play-off, because, should he play againstSampdoria, the midfielder would beunable to play for the Spanish giants inthe group phases, if he transfers toMadrid.

“We have nurtured players like Di-ego (who now plays for Juventus) andMiroslav Klose (of Bayern Munich)into top players. The same applies toOzil. And that must be honoured byany club he goes to,” Allofs told alocal paper.

Real Madrid star Kaka is expectedto be out for up to four months with aknee injury from the World Cup andnew coach Jose Mourinho wants Ozilto replace the Brazilian play-maker. ButAllofs has said Ozil will play againstSampdoria, unless Madrid can raisetheir offer.

“If a change is not clear, then he willdefinitely play,” said Allofs. Ozil him-self refused to speak to reporters aftertraining on Monday. The second-legwill take place at Sampdoria’s StadioComunale Luigi Ferraris next Tuesday.

IOC spokesman Mark Adamssaid it is “my understanding is thathe was taken to hospital and unableto compete.” Soleimani did not ap-pear at the medals ceremony along-side Gili Haimovitz of Israel.

“When Gili won the semifinal, weknew the Iranian was making the fi-nal,” said Daniel Oren, head of theIsraeli delegation. “Already, weknow that the Iranians would notcome. ... On one hand, we got thegold medal. It’s every exciting forus. On the other hand, we would pre-fer winning by competing.”

The World Taekwondo Federa-tion confirmed Haimovitz’s victorywithout elaborating. When contactedby The Associated Press, a federa-tion spokesman denied a politicalmotive. An Iranian official did notrespond to calls to his cell phone.

Haimovitz, a 17-year-old highschool student, won Israel’s firstgold medal at the Youth Games.

“Actually, I don’t want to get intopolitics or that kind of thing,” hesaid. “I don’t know. I was a readyfor a fight. If he came out or not, Idon’t care.”

Gilady said that once Soleimaniwas deemed injured he would win thesilver medal and would have “to standon the podium and listen to the Israelianthem and see the Israeli flag overthe Iranian flag.” “They put him in anambulance so at least they would notcreate a crisis that would have de-manded further action,” he added. “Soit looks like everything is OK.”

DANI Pedrosa admits he is slightly disappointed atbeing unable to take the fight to Jorge Lorenzo in theCzech Grand Prix, but was otherwise satisfied to beback on the podium.

The Brno pole man led into the first corner but cau-tious braking into turn three enabled both Lorenzo andBen Spies to overtake him. Although he secured sec-ond back off Spies shortly afterwards, he was unable todo anything more than stay close to Lorenzo.

Eventually fading as the race wore on, Pedrosa main-tained second position to the chequered flag to improvehis identical placing in the overall standings.

“It’s good to be back on the podium after the crash atthe last race at Laguna Seca so I’m happy about this.My start was good and I was in first place through thefirst corner but in the first left-hander I was a little bittoo concerned about my tyre temperature and brakedtoo early, which allowed Ben and Jorge to get past.

“When I was in second place behind Jorge again Iwas trying as hard as possible to stay close, which Icould do for a few laps, but for some reason I wasn’tquite able to go as fast as yesterday - I had quite a lot ofwheelspin and was struggling to get good drive out ofthe corners. I tried to adjust my riding to improve thisbut Jorge was gradually able to open the gap.

“So it wasn’t the best result for us, but still the po-dium is ok and we can build on this result. After the testwe go to Indianapolis and I was strong there last year -

Rossi, who already holds the recordfor 500cc/MotoGP race wins (78),needs one more title to tie GiacomoAgostini’s record of eight premier-classchampionships and is 18 race wins shortof Agostini’s all time record of 122grand prix wins in all grand prix classes.

By switching to Ducati, Rossi canalso try to become the only rider everto win the 500cc/MotoGP crown forthree different manufacturers.

Since joining MotoGP in 2003,Ducati has taken 28 race wins, but20 of them have been with CaseyStoner - who handed Ducati its firstand so far only MotoGP crown in2007 and is leaving the team forHonda at the end of this year.

Rossi thus replaces Stoner and lookscertain to ride alongside Nicky Hayden.Rossi and 2006 world championHayden raced together at Honda in2003 and a contract for the Americanto remain a Desmosedici rider for a thirdseason is seen as a formality.

Rossi and Ducati will be desper-ate to work together at the Valenciatest, held in November - immediatelyafter the end of the racing season -but that will depend upon permissionfrom Yamaha.

What is known is that Rossi will stilltest for Yamaha at Brno on Monday, but any 2011 parts are likely to behanded to present team-mate Lorenzoand possibly Ben Spies, who will takeRossi’s place at the factory team.
