    Malaysia Truly Asia

A bubbling, bustling melting pot of races

    and religions

    - Tourism Malaysia

    MALAYSIA, located in

Southeast Asia, is a country rich and diverse in culture.

This makes Malaysia a home for an array of colorful

festivals e.g. Aidilfitri (Eid), Chinese New Year, Deepavali

and Christmas. Malaysias racial diversity has also made

    the country known as a

    gastronomical paradise.

Today, we, MSAMU, introduce to you some of our

    local delicacies.

MSAMU aims at bringing a pinch of Malaysian culture

    to the Marquette community.

We also hope to create a home away from home for

Malaysian students and even faculty, both old and

    new.

  • Gastronomics 101 Malaysian style!

On todays menu, we have three popular Malaysian desserts: Kuih Sagu, Buah Melaka, and ABC.

Kuih Sagu (literally translated as Sago Cake) is basically a glutinous dessert made from pearl sago, water and sugar, and then rolled in grated coconut.

Buah Melaka is also a glutinous cake made with pandan juice, which gives the dessert its flavor. Pandan juice is extracted from pandan leaves, also known as screwpine leaves.

Both cakes are popular desserts and teatime snacks in Malaysia. They are also rather popular at open houses during the Aidilfitri celebrations.

Given Malaysias tropical weather, ABC is a sinfully sweet delight during those hot, sunny days. ABC is basically shaved ice topped with syrup, condensed milk, creamed corn, red beans and an assortment of jelly. This dessert is much like a snow cone in a bowl with condiments.

    Clockwise:

    1. Kuih Sagu 2. ABC 3. Buah Melaka
