Kent InternationalPathways offers a rangeof academic programmes,which give you accessto undergraduate andpostgraduate study.

All of our programmes are designedto give you the best possible startto your studies. Our coursesare designed specifically forinternational students whosefirst language may, or may not, beEnglish. They develop both youracademic and, if required, linguisticability in order to fully prepare youfor future study.

The University of Kent is a memberof the UPA, which comprisesseven leading UK universitieswho manage and deliver their ownin-house academic and Englishlanguage programmes. Collectively,UPA member universities have over125 years of experience teachingFoundation and Pre-Master’sprogrammes and have enabledthousands of international studentsto progress to degree level study.

International FoundationProgrammeIf you need to extend your existingacademic qualifications, study skillsor ability in English before you canstart an undergraduate degree at aUK university, why not apply for ourone-year International FoundationProgramme (IFP)?

The IFP at the University of Kentwas one of the first to be offered bya UK university and students havebeen successfully progressing toa wide range of degrees for over35 years. The programme has beenspecifically designed to prepare youfor academic study on a wide rangeof undergraduate degreeprogrammes in the humanities,social sciences and sciences.

We offer pathways to a wide rangeof areas, such as: architecture; arthistory; biosciences; computing;digital arts; economics; Englishlanguage and linguistics; law;management and business;pharmacology and physiology;psychology; sport and exercisesciences. Your IFP modules needto be relevant to your chosendegree, so you need to choosethe correct IFP course.

The IFP takes place at our mainCanterbury campus and studentsare full members of the University,with access to all our leisure,support and study facilities. We alsooffer you a place in our purpose-builtstudent accommodation.

If you successfully complete the IFPand meet the University’s rules ofprogression and English languagerequirements, you are guaranteedentry on to a full undergraduatedegree at the University of Kent.1

Course structureThe IFP is a modular course,which runs for three terms. Allprogrammes start in September.Humanities and Social SciencesIFPs also start in January. You takeone module in Academic SkillsDevelopment and either take amodule in English for AcademicStudy or complete a FoundationProject module. These skills andlanguage modules differ from‘English language’ classes, as youdevelop skills to fully enjoy youracademic experience in the UK.For example, you developyour sense of responsibilityin seminar/group work and asan independent student. Thisentails time management, projectmanagement and individualresponsibility towards learning,and developing your analyticaland critical skills.

You then choose subject modulesdepending on your chosen pathway.Generally, modules are worth either15 or 30 credits. Please note that ifyou wish to take the Art and Designmodule, you need to provide anelectronic portfolio of your work.

AssessmentAssessment is through acombination of assignments,coursework and examinations.

Entry requirementsTo gain entry on to the IFP you need:• a good academic school-leaving

certificate with particularstrengths in subjects that arerelevant to your intended areaof study

• GCSE grade C Maths orequivalent, for some degreeprogrammes. If you do not havethis level of qualification, you willneed to take the IFP Maths andStatistics module

• 5.0 IELTS, with no less than 5.0 ineach section.

ACCOMMODATION

University of Kentaccommodation allowsyou to make an easytransition to living inthe UK. Personal contentsinsurance and all of yourbills, except for a TVlicence, are included inaccommodation fees.

We offer you accommodation foryour IFP and for the first year of yourchosen degree programme.

Set within 300 acres of parkland,the Canterbury campus offers:• over 4,500 bedrooms for single

occupancy• en-suite facilities in almost 60%

of bedrooms• 84% of bedrooms with self-

catering facilities• high-speed wired and Wi-Fi

internet connection throughoutthe accommodation.

Kent has three accommodationoptions for undergraduate students.

1 Self-catered accommodationOn central campus, Turing andKeynes offer en-suite bedroomsin flats and rooms in houses withshared bathroom facilities. TylerCourt offers flats with en-suitebedrooms, and houses withshared bathroom facilities areavailable at Darwin College.

Our student village, Park Wood,also offers en-suite bedroomsin flats and more than 260 five orsix-bedroom houses with sharedbathroom facilities. Park Wood islocated in a beautiful woodlandsetting and is just a few minutes’walk from central campus.

Self-catered flats and houses allhave shared kitchens.

All self-catered accommodationis offered for a fixed period fromSeptember to June, which includesthe winter and spring vacations.

2 Part-catered accommodation:bed and bistro

This accommodation package isavailable to residents of the mainbuilding at Keynes College and atBecket Court. It includes an en-suitebedroom, weekday breakfasts anddinners in our flagship bistro DolcheVita, located in Keynes College, andweekend meals in the dining hallat Rutherford College, during termtime. This accommodation is offered

for a fixed period from Septemberto June, excluding the winter andspring vacations.

3 Part-catered accommodation:bed and flex

This accommodation package isavailable to residents of Eliot andRutherford Colleges. It includes anallowance of £8 per day to spendon food in a choice of nine venues,seven days per week, during termtime. Accommodation is offered fora fixed period from September toJune, including the winter andspring vacations (except theUniversity’s two-week closureover Christmas and New Year).

Pastoral supportOur Student Support Officer andSenior Tutor are here to offer you thebest possible pastoral support sothat you can make the most of yourexperience at Kent. We encourageyou to meet with the support teamfor confidential pastoral supportincluding concerns about generalwelfare, health and wellbeing, andpersonal problems. The team canalso help you to contact the othersupport services available at theUniversity including: StudentSupport; the Wellbeing Team, themulti-faith Chaplaincy; UniversityNursing Service; the MedicalCentre and Pharmacy.

All students are assigned to acollege and each college hasa Master, who is responsible forstudent welfare and whom youcan consult about any problems.

Academic supportWhen you join one of ourprogrammes, you are assigned anAcademic Adviser for the durationof your studies. Your AcademicAdviser is here to give independentadvice on all aspects of youracademic development, includingacademic progress and feedbackon assignments. We also offer anAcademic Peer Mentor Scheme,which aims to improve learning andperformance through pairing paststudents with current students toprovide academic peer support.

We are committed to supportingall of our students. We provideprospective and current studentsregistered with a disability, with clearand comprehensive information thatsets out the support available.

Meet people from home –Kent’s ‘buddy’ schemeKent Union has developed emailgroups and a buddy scheme, whichallow you to contact other studentsfrom your home country.
