The history of CARL WALTHER began in 1886, when Carl Walther opened a gunsmith’s workshop. Already in 1908 he and his son created the Model 1, the first semi-automatic pistol. To this day the innovative spirit of the founders has guided and motivated this world-famous arms manufacturer.

PPK, P99, PPS and PPQ.

The series of world-famous police pistols began with the now legendary WALTHER PPK and continued with the highly successful P99 and PPS. The latest innovation is the WALTHER PPQ, which came out in 2011. Police in the German states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen and Rhineland-Palatinate chose the WALTHER P99 as their service weapon. This reliable pistol is also used by the Royal Malaysia Police, the Polish National Police, the Dutch Police and numerous other police agencies around the world.

Precision craftsmanship doesn’t happen overnight. Since the beginning almost 130 years ago, WALTHER has been perfecting world-class firearms and is known throughout the world. Walther and his son Fritz created the first semi-automatic pistol in 1886. It was the first of many innovations.

What was to become known as the Model 1 was the first practical self-loading pistol introduced in 1908. This revolutionary weapon served as a pocket pistol for the German World War I officers. This began the tradition of WALTHER’s history of supplying the military and law enforcement.

Modest blacksmiths from the industrious German region around Suhl and Zella-Mehlis gave rise to special trades, such as rifle making in the mid-1800s. From this time and place came one of the most prestigious firearms manufacturing companies the world has ever known – WALTHER.

One of those famous blacksmiths was Carl Wilhelm Freund Walther. With only a modest amount of equipment and tooling, the young WALTHER began to manufacture hunting and target shooting rifles. WALTHER Arms was born.

Fritz Walther recognized the potential of double-action pistols. The PP, one of the first single/ double-action pistols was born in 1929 and was an instant success. This introduction led the way to what is now the original pocket pistol, the iconic PPK.

When the trigger of the CCP is squeezed and the striker hits the cartridge, the bullet is set in motion. Once it passes the barrel’s gas port, some of the gas generated by the ignited propellant is directed through the port into a gas cylinder. The gas pressure in the cylinder acts against a piston that’s attached to the slide opposing its rearward motion, which effectively lowers felt recoil.

The benefits of SoftCoil Gas Technology extend beyond the softened recoil of the Concealed Carry Pistol. It allowed Walther engineers to specify a recoil spring with decreased tension, resulting in a slide that’s easy to manipulate and a shooter that remains focused and accurately on target.

SOME SEcRETS ARE HARD TO kEEp. THE ppS ISN’T ONE OF THEM. The PPS is everything you look for in a concealed carry handgun. It’s lightweight, comfortable and very slim. At less than an inch wide, the PPS is so discreet you won’t even realize you’re wearing a gun – until you need it. It’s fast to bring into action and easy to shoot accurately.

The original WALTHER factory was destroyed during World War II. The only items Fritz managed to save after the conflict were a small number of the original drawings and the rights to approximately 80 patents.

The elder WALTHER continued the tradition by constructing a new modern factory in Ulm, a location where centerfire production is done today. WALTHER added multiple locations over the next few years and in 1949, the company celebrated its 1,000th machine, an incredible testament to an enduring legacy.

Fritz’s son Karl-Heinz continued the legacy and tradition, leading the business into the late 1960s. He had a passion for the sporting segment of the business and introduced several successful models. After celebrating its first successful century in business, the company took a step to the future when Wulf-Heinz Pflaumer and Franz Wonisch acquired the firearms business in 1993.

This new partnership resulted in significant advances and accomplishments. WALTHER’s innovative new competition rifles were used to win gold medals at the Atlanta Olympic games. The sporting and defense sectors continued its now legendary legacy as WALTHER continued to be the choice of military and law enforcement agencies around the world.

WALTHERA GERMAN SUccESS STORy

This book, available in two volumes, was conceived to celebrate the 125-year anniversary of Carl Walther GmbH. This successful German company had its beginnings in the 19th century in the town of Zella St. Blasii (Thuringia), as a gunsmith workshop.

The first book begins with an overview of the events that occurred in the early 1990s, which brought the hand of fate in leading the WALTHER Company to merge with the Umarex Group. The historical portion addresses the origin of the WALTHER family business.

The second volume begins with the 1993 management change and is dedicated to the dynamic advances WALTHER made in the world market. By creating new models and developing innovative sports promotions, WALTHER has firmly positioned its company in the new century.

This is an amazing combination of history, innovation, and photography. If you are a firearms enthusiast or history buff, this book will be a valuable addition to your collection.
