Despite the many remarkable advances in reproductive medicine and biology, couple infertility remains a challenging issue. The low biological efficiency of in vitro fertilization is demonstrated by the fact that only about 5% of harvested mature oocytes produce a live baby. And yet obtaining viable gametes for IVF is still a challenge for some women and men. So, why is so difficult for infertile patients to “make” good gametes?
In this edition of “The Pelvis as a Mother” we will try to address this issue. Well renowned international speakers will reason about how environmental exposure and lifestyle habits on one hand and individualization of ovarian stimulation protocols on the other hand may affect oogenesis, speculate about gonadal regeneration with gonadal stem cells, show how cryopreservation technologies has altered the daily practice of human ART, illustrate the surgical strategies able to obtain viable testicular sperm from azoospermic men.
But, since making gametes is just the first step of the journey that, hopefully, would end with the birth of an healthy baby, we will look into the mysteries of embryo implantation process. Our experts will focus on the implications of genetic instability in human embryos and of the role of embryo aneuploidy and mosaicism in the context of embryo selection, evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the cell free DNA from blastocele fluid or spent culture media in predicting the successful embryo implantation, discuss the complex role of RNA cargoes within exosomes in the conceptus-endometrial cross talk.
