M E T HO D O L O G Y

System of demographic statistics in the SR is based on monthly processing of data ondemographic events drawn from the exhaustive population survey, regularly performedcensuses of population and housing; provides information on population as a whole, on itsspatial distribution, number, structures, and characteristics in the specific period of time.

The Programme of state statistical surveys - OBYV5-12 Report on Movement

International migration is defined as the change of country of permanent residence ofpersons during the reference year, i.e. the number of immigrants arrived in the SlovakRepublic, respectively number of emigrants who left the country, regardless of her/hisnationality.

Data collection: date of birth, sex, citizenship, country of birth, family status, education,reason of migration, date of registration/deregistartion of residence, country of previousresidence and country of next residence.

- 1993 the formation of the Slovak Republic,

- 2004 accession of the Slovak Republic into the EU - change of the

legislation on residence of foreigners,

- 2007 enlargement of the EU for Bulgaria and Romania,

- December 2007 Slovakia became part of the Schengen area

(movement of persons without border controls),

- 2007 the beginning of the global economic crisis,

- 2013 enlargement of the EU for Croatia,

- 2016 Brexit

BUDAPEST MEMORANDUM

International conference - Bratislava, October 26th, 2017

The DGINS statistical session on Population and Integration Issues took place in September 2017 in Budapest.

The results of the meeting were summarize in BUDAPEST MEMORANDUM, the final version was agreed at the

DGINS conference and discussed and approved by the European Statistical Committee.

Main action points:

- actively promote the added value of high quality migration statistics,

- to support the analysis of the integration of migrants and their descendants in destination countries,

- to develop and implement common population and migration-related definitions,

- to develop a new methods and data sources (using ADS for statistical purposes, BIG DATA)

- to support high quality national registers,

- to promote data exchanges between countries,

- to develop and promote annual compilation of census-type data as a source of information on migrants,

- to develop a basic set of census-related geo-referenced data,

- to support cooperation with authorities and agencies responsible for the administration and management of

migration at regional, national and European level,

- to monitor the implementation of these action points based on regular short reports to the ESSC.
