First we discuss: • Round Trip • Circle Trip • Three fare constructions principles

− Circle Trip Minimum − High Intermediate Point − Differential

þ Instructors’ Notes

The goal of teaching fare construction principles is to help you recognize, during the pricing process, when one of the principles has been applied. Application of the principles can result in price different from the fare quoted and it is essential to understand the reason for the difference. To understand the three principles, let’s talk about the following

Page 6: International Pricing Pricing Options - dls3.wspan.comdls3.wspan.com/learningcenter/PDFs/Virtual Outlines/International... · Introduction to International Pricing Functionality e-Learning

terms: ÿ PowerPoint - 05

Definitions: One way Trip - Not a complete round trip, circle trip, or other than round trip/circle trip (open jaw).

Round Trip – Travel from a point of origin to another point and return to the point of origin by the same route or by a different route when the fare is the same in each direction. Circle – Travel from one point and return to the same point by a continuous, circular route including two international fare components that do not meet the conditions of the round trip definition.

ÿ PowerPoint - 06

The three fare construction principles are: 1. Circle Trip Minimum – A check to ensure the fare is not less

than the highest direct normal or special round trip fare applicable to the lowest class of service from point of origin to any ticketed point on the routing.

2. Higher Intermediate Point – An intermediate point along the route of travel having a higher published fare from the point of origin than the published fare from point of origin to destination.

3. Differential – An amount added when a segment and/or segments of an itinerary is traveled in a higher class of service than the majority of the segments

Next we discuss: • Autopricing an international PNR with different PTC codes,

including an INF PTC code. þ Instructors’ Notes

Any child under 2 years of age is considered an infant. If INF is in the name field, Worldspan prices the record at the applicable fare for that PTC. On international flights an infant usually pays a percentage of the adult fare. A segment cannot be sold for the infant, because they do not occupy a seat.

ÿ PowerPoint - 08

Guidelines to keep in mind when using an INF PTC: • All passenger names may be entered in one name field, but upon

redisplay the INF PTC displays in separate name field. • Once the PNR is ended, changes are not allowed to the “INF”

PTC. • Only one “INF” PTC is allowed per “ADT” PTC in the PNR. • At time of end transaction, an OSI is automatically sent to all

airlines in the itinerary to notify them of the infant. • Infant tickets are exempted from Passenger Facility Charges

(PFC’S). • An Infant cannot be divided out of a PNR. To remove, cancel the

infant name field.

Page 8: International Pricing Pricing Options - dls3.wspan.comdls3.wspan.com/learningcenter/PDFs/Virtual Outlines/International... · Introduction to International Pricing Functionality e-Learning

Page 8 3/13/2003

ÿ PowerPoint - 09

INF PTC Guidelines, cont’d:

• Customized Name Data may be used with the INF PTC. • The endorsement box on the ticket reads "NO-SEAT". The status

box has the code "NS" (no seat). NO (No Allowance) or PC (Piece Concept) prints in the baggage area of the ticket.

• Name associated SSRs can only be used for NW. • If an infant PNR autoprices, a ticket is not issued for travel solely

within the United States. However, if the PNR is MANUALLY PRICED, a ticket is issued and the fare displays as $0.00.

þ Instructors’ Notes

The following exercise demonstrates pricing for PTCs, including an infant without a seat.

Next we discuss: • Low Fare Finder

− Lowest Available (4PLF@) − Lowest Available & Rebook (4PLFB@) − Lowest Possible (4PLFQ@)

þ Instructors’ Notes

Low Fare Finder provides a method for pricing an itinerary at the lowest applicable fare based on booking class availability and using AccessPlus entries.

Low Fare Finder (4PLF@) Guidelines:

• A 4PLF@ entry checks Worldspan availability for Direct Access, Direct Sell and non-participating airlines. A 4PLF entry on an Airline Source participant checks the airline's availability.

• A 4PLF@ entry assumes the PNR is booked today and is ticketed today

• A 4PLF@ entry prices a maximum of 16 itinerary segments, 4 PTCs and 9 fare break points

• Low Fare Finder can be used to price a PNR with open segments : Application Sharing

Worldspan Power Products Power Shopper – a method of searching for low fares without having an itinerary built. Power Shopper is applicable to domestic and international itineraries. Power Pricing – a method of obtaining a lower fare for a booked domestic or international itinerary. Power Flight Search – displays the first available flights based upon a desired fare within a four-day search window for domestic and international flights.

þ Instructors’ Notes

There is a monthly fee for using the Power Products. A full month is charged for each CRT with Power Products access, regardless of what time of the month they are activated.

ÿ PowerPoint - 14

For Power Shopper Guidelines: • An itinerary is not required • A change symbol can be added to request last seat availability by

direct access • If no date is indicated, Worldspan defaults to the current date • If no time is indicated, Worldspan defaults to 9 a.m. • If no date or time is indicated, Worldspan defaults to current date

and local CRT time • Time can be input using the 24 hour clock

Power Pricing Guidelines: • Processes up to 4 PTCs and 6 trips not to exceed 16 segments

(including ARNKs) • Displays alternate itineraries on international PNRs regardless of

the global direction of the original itinerary • 4PLIBX returns the new segments in an “SS” status code • Processes open segments. If there is no date, Power Pricing

assumes today’s date for the departure flight and tomorrow for the return flight. If the open segments do not have times, the current time of the CRT is used. Times do not appear on the newly booked open alternate segments.

Power Pricing Guidelines Cont.:

• Can be used on itineraries containing non-participating airlines. However, since non-participating airlines are not in availability, Power Pricing cannot consider them in an alternate itinerary.

• Can be used on itineraries containing schedule changes, which have not been worked. However, if an attempt is made to rebook, Worldspan notifies that schedule changes exist and must be worked to rebooked.

ÿ PowerPoint - 19

Power Pricing Guidelines Cont.:

• Only considers the class of service booked or above. For example, if coach is booked, Power Pricing considers coach, business and first class. If business is booked, business and first class is considered. And if first class is booked, only first class is considered.

• Rebook is not allowed when 4PLIQ is used. • Non-stop and direct flights are not returned when 4PLIX is used.

ÿ PowerPoint - 20

Power Pricing Guidelines Cont.:

• When using 4PLINK, auxiliary segments remain with the original itinerary.

• 4PLID evaluates non-stop and direct one-stop flights. If a direct flight has more than one stop, Power Pricing does not consider this flight as an alternate.

• 4PLID does not consider change of gauge flights as an alternate.

Custom Discount Pricing allows you to apply a single discount, multiple discounts or a plus-up amount with a ticket designator in a single ticket record.

ÿ PowerPoint - 28

Custom Discount Pricing Guidelines: • The combination of the fare basis code and ticket designator

cannot exceed 15 characters. If the combination exceeds 15 characters Worldspan accepts the entry, however, only the first 15 characters print in the fare basis/ticket designator box.

• A ticket designator can be letters, numbers, special characters or a combination of all three.

• Custom Discount Pricing off the total fare is valid for Domestic US itineraries only. If a discount from the total fare entry is made on a non-US itinerary an error is received.

• Custom Discount Pricing can be used in conjunction with ticketing entries and can be stored in the ticketing field.

Custom Discount Pricing Guidelines Cont’d:

• Worldspan performs no editing or validation of discounts or ticket designators used with Custom Discount Pricing.

• Custom Discount Pricing entries can be combined with all pricing options except percentage discounts from the total fare.

• Many airlines require notations in the endorsement box. Worldspan does not generate with Custom Pricing.

• The dollar sign does not represent US dollars. It is used to indicate the amount following is a monetary sum.

• When Custom Plus Pricing international itineraries, the sum is added to the total amount excluding taxes.

Alternate Fare Construction shows the different pricing options considered by Worldspan in addition to the one received with a basic 4P or 4PLF entry. This is especially helpful for complicated itineraries to check all the possible trip combinations and use the best fare.

ÿ PowerPoint - 30

Alternate Fare Construction Guidelines: • Pricing attempts are in low to high order. • Unsuccessful attempts are shown last with error response

numbers • Price marked with the change symbol (@), is the one normally

received with the 4P or 4PLF entry. • NP appears between the price and the AAP entry when a price is

a non-penalty fare. • AFC can show a maximum of 99 pricing attempts. • The AFC option can be added to any 4P or 4PLF entry.

Next we discuss: • Pricing Instructions

þ Instructors’ Notes

Pricing Instructions (PIs) are pre-stored in a PNR to be used to produce multiple tickets. PIs are stored by fare basis, custom pricing, PTC or segment select. When using Pricing Instructions, pricing is done at the time of ticketing. If there is a fare increase or if the fare basis code is no longer valid, Worldspan applies the current fare or returns an error

Next we discuss: • Multiple Ticketing Records

þ Instructors’ Notes

Multiple Ticketing Records (MTRs) provide the ability to prestore ticketing records when it is necessary to manually price and ticket two or more trips separately. MTRs may be stored using 4P∗, 4/R or 4/MR.

Page 44: International Pricing Pricing Options - dls3.wspan.comdls3.wspan.com/learningcenter/PDFs/Virtual Outlines/International... · Introduction to International Pricing Functionality e-Learning

Page 44 3/13/2003

ÿ PowerPoint - 36

Why use MTRs?

• PNR has more than 16 airline segments • Different Net non-published fare amounts • Different IT published & non-published fare amounts • Multiple airlines cannot be on the same ticket

ÿ PowerPoint - 37

Multiple Ticketing Record Guidelines: • When a PNR is divided, MTRs do not copy to the new PNR • When using EC entries, MTRs do not copy to the new PNR • Maximum of 255 ticketing records per PNR for a maximum of 4

PTCs and 16 airline segments • MTRs are located in the TR database in a PNR. TR ITEMS EXIST

displays on the face of the PNR • Burst ticketing is not allowed
