International School of Hellerup Exhibition

19 March 2018The 14th of March, International School of Hellerup held an exhibition where MYP 4, 5, DP 1, and 2 were able to show some of their work that they had been working on. This exhibition was held to mainly focus on the hard work MYP 5 did on their personal projects, as well as DP1 and DP2’s artwork, but not all of the MYP4’s work was presented this year. The exhibition was held in the canteen, and gorgeously set up with drinks and snacks provided.

In this event the MYP4’s main jobs were to either be on the set up team, service team, or clean up team. Me, as an MYP 4, was in the clean-up team and we worked very well together to try and clean up after the long night. We were all dressed fancy as well as the MYP 5, DP1, DP 2 and any other guests that arrived.Overall, the Exhibition was great, and I got a lot of different ideas from all of the very creative personal projects and art works.

My favorite DP 1 art work/sby Cassandra Oseni DP 1

Cassandra Oseni from DP 1, was one of the many DP 1 students that made incredible artwork. For this exhibition, she included art works such as photography, an installation, and paintings. I found a lot of the DP artworks amazing, but her artworks

were very personal so they stood out to me.

For her art works, she focused on expressing her biracial beliefs and had her mixed background visible in her art works. She expressed how people

“stereotypically” see mixed people, and what they usually are linked to such as Oreos. Overall, her artworks were great, I think she was successful in expressing her beliefs, but I would have liked to see more of her installations as her only one was really good.

Personal Project FavoritesRecycled Pencils by Matthew Moore

Matthew Moore, an MYP5 student spent six months working on his Personal Project, which was recyclable pencils. His aim for this project was to make pencils from all natural resources to avoid destroying nature. All of the personal projects were very unique and extravagant, but this certain one caught

For his process, he got inspired by his friend Francis Jr Kaunda, who told him about a method they used in Malawi to create long lasting fire burners. From this, he expanded his process in which he made his recyclable pencils from. His idea was great, but he could have taken this to the next level by making a fun

my attention as his pencils were physically available to write with.

activity for the lower grades where he teaches them how to make these pencils, from this he shows how simple they are to make while still showing the main aim of his work: to not destroy nature. To add more, he could have made a survey where he showed the amount of paper being wasted in the school, all of this wasted paper could be made into recyclable pencils.

Personal Project FavoritesMental Illness Awareness by Amanda Baig

Amanda Baig, another student from MYP 5, also spent six months creating her personal project. For her personal project, she made a pop-up book where she explained and raised awareness about the different mental illnesses for

mostly ages 10-12.

Her pop-up book makes it even more interesting to read, as the visuals are very attractive. You can really see that she thought about the colours she used in her pop-up book, as they really compliment her drawings. Everything was great and the vocabulary used was very simple yet not boring to read. To take it one step further, she could have given this book to the PYP 5- MYP 1 and have had them take a survey on whether or not they understand about any of these mental illnesses that affect teenagers more now.

Overall ThoughtsOverall this exhibition was a great success and everyone's work (including the MYP 4’s) was great. I had a great time exploring through these wonderful ideas of all of the creative and unique students at International School of Hellerup and I cannot wait to see more of the upcoming exhibitions.
