December is a great time to share

“The Greatest Story Ever Told!”

December 8 at 9:30 am and 3:00 pm

Have you gotten your tickets for sharing with others?

This is the last Sunday, December 1.

Please make your plans now to invite (share) with neighbors and friends an invitation. The

three o’clock service is the best time to invite guests as there is usually a little more room

than the 9:30 am, but invite them to come with you whenever.

Thanks to our Fellowship Team, cookies will be served as we greet our guests and members

after the 3pm presentation. Please pray for the Choir and Orchestra members as we approach

this final week of preparation. Pray for wellness and clarity in the presentations. This musical

promises a song for everyone. See you there.

God Bless and Merry Christmas!

Pastor Jim

We are blessed with another year to celebrate the birth of Christ. I love this celebration and all

the love that is shown. I am also thankful to have this special time to be reminded of God’s love for

all mankind. It is a big deal that God sent Jesus to be born a baby, grow into childhood, and

become a man to die for us as the sacrifice for our sins. He lived a perfect life in order to be a

perfect sacrifice.

There are several books and DVD’s in the library that either tell about Christmas or use the

Christmas theme to tell a story. These books and DVD’s are on the north wall (right).

One book, written by Max Lucado, Because of Bethlehem, urges us to do three things:

1). Rekindle our connection to the Christ of Christmas and find hope for a lifetime; 2). Lay down

our endless Christmas to-do list and receive what Jesus has already done; 3). Heal heartache by

embracing the God who is always near you, always for you, and always in you.

Another book, written by Liz Curtis Higgs, The Women of Christmas, explores the biblical

stories of Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna. Elizabeth is barren, yet her trust in God remains fertile. Mary

is betrothed in marriage, yet she is willing to bear God’s Son. Anna is a widow full of years, yet she

waits patiently, prayerfully for the Messiah to appear in the temple courts.

Merry Christmas to you from the library committee: Sherry Karr, Kathy Foust, Ann Huffman, Marcie

Hogan, Lorri Moffett, and Carolyn Linam.

KATHY MIRAMONTES

Kathy hails from the Pacific Northwest. Born in Portland, OR, she

grew up in Salinas, CA, where she went to High School and

Cosmetology college, later moving to Woodland, CA where she met

and married her husband, had a daughter, and opened a beauty salon.

Her hobbies changed and she bought a young horse which she

trained to saddle and neck rein, switched hobbies again, to raise and

exhibit pure-bred dogs, Belgian Tervuren’s (easier to travel to dog shows than horse shows!);

the breed is one of the 3 varieties of Belgians; the Belgian Malinois is commonly used in

search and rescue operations.

Their daughter, Robin, remains in California living in Woodland, near Sacramento.

The California Tomato Festival owes its origin to Kathy; she created the festival in 1969.

She later relocated to southern California and began a career in Business Administration in the

early 1990’s.

A defining moment in Kathy’s life is her salvation and baptism by Pastor Rick Warren at

Saddleback Church, Lake Forest, CA.

Last year Kathy visited a friend in the Village, falling in love with the natural beauty of

Arkansas. This visit left an indelible impression on her and she went back to southern CA,

sold her condo and moved to HSV in March of this year. Kathy refers to Arkansas as “God’s

Country” - we agree!

She immediately began to volunteer and serve in different areas in the Village and became

a member of the Republican Women’s League, member of the 50th Anniversary Committee

and recently joined the AWL and enjoyed participating in the Newcomers Club.

The Contemporary Service at Balboa Baptist sparked her interest to visit; subsequently, she

joined the church where she is an active member.

She shares her home with a very sweet calico cat, Maya.

DAVE & CATHY FLEMING

(No picture available)

Dave grew up in Pasadena, Texas. He earned his BA in English from West Texas State

University and Masters in Literature from Oklahoma State University. As a career, he taught

composition and literature at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois. Dave

has two sons and two grandsons. He was widowed for about one year when he met Cathy

through a mutual friend and they were married about two years later.

Cathy grew up in Beardstown, Illinois. She earned her Associates Degree in Applied

Science and Business Management from Lincoln Land Community College and her BA in

Liberal Arts from the University of Illinois.

Dave and Cathy have several interests and hobbies. Dave sings with the Village Men’s

Chorus and enjoys cooking with the Men’s Cooking Club. Cathy volunteers at the Salvation

Army Family Store HSV and they both volunteer for the Kairos Prison Ministry. Other

interests for Cathy are computer games, Get Fit classes, nature, and reading nonfiction

literature in her spare time.

Dave and Cathy moved to the Village from Springfield, Illinois in 2004. Cathy has the

gift of organization so if you need help call her. They are members of Dr. Polly’s Impact

class.

Say hello to this lovely couple and be blessed by knowing them.

RANDY & JoAN SYPERT

Randy and JoAn were born and raised in Dallas, where

Randy’s family was one of the first 50 settlers. They met when

they were in High School. One day the teacher caught them

passing notes back and forth as they were trying to make a date

and the rest is history.

Randy worked for Dallas Power and Light Company for 30

years and then began a new career as a Private Investigator for another 10 years, while JoAn

was a nurse for an OB/GYN doctor for 22 years.

Randy is very much an outdoor person who stays busy playing golf and softball, and they

both love to deer-hunt with bow and arrow and guns on their property about 2 hours away

from the Village. Being true Texans, they are both licensed to carry. They also RV’d for

twenty five years.

JoAn feels blessed to have survived a serious illness a few years ago and gives all the

glory to her Savior.

They have two children and four grands, and one special occupant of their home named

Snoopy, who is part of their family.

Randy and JoAn moved from Pittsburg, Texas to the Village in May of 2019, and began

to hear good things about Balboa Baptist Church. Pastor Denny was interviewed by JoAn and

he passed her test so they soon made Balboa their church home.

When you meet Randy, be sure to ask him about his debut at Branson! Say hello to this

warm and friendly couple and welcome them into our church family.

DOROTHY PRYOR

Dorothy Pryor was born and raised in Lake Charles, LA, in a

strong Catholic family with 5 sisters and one brother. After high

school, she enrolled in a technical school, sharpened her

administrative skills, and soon became a secretary to a movie owner.

She then moved to Houston and started working for Conoco.

Dorothy enrolled in the University of Houston to further her

education as she continued to work as a temp at Conoco. In 1978,

Dorothy’s sister decided to go to the First Baptist Church of Houston and Dorothy went with

her sister to protect her. The Holy Spirit took over and she became a Baptist.

She then met CW (Charles) who was 6’10” and former Texas A&M basketball player.

They were married and he became very successful in the printing business. Dorothy was

promoted in Conoco from Secretary to Analyst. They raised two girls, Amber and Amanda, as

Dorothy became a fulltime homemaker. Amanda is now a chef in the Houston area, and

Amber has 3 grandchildren living in Austin, TX, where her husband produces the successful

TV show “My 600-lb. Life”.

Dorothy and CW retired at 43 and bought a house in HSV in 1995 and built a house in

1996. Within 6 months, CW became ill and endured poor health for the next 22 years. He

died of leukemia in 2017. After an appropriate time of grieving, Dorothy went to a

Beeboppers dance and met Larry Pryor. A neighbor then put together a Sunday evening

neighborhood group, and Larry and Dorothy were the only two singles. Dorothy was looking

for a church and visited Balboa Baptist and there was Larry again. They were recently

married and are living the good life. They attend Bob Moore’s Faith Bible Study class.
