Coventry is located just 15 minutes away from Birmingham International Airport. It is an historic city that has recently been voted City of Culture 2021.
Over 50,000 students are educated here. There are two Universities, Warwick ranked 7th in the UK and 19th in the
world and Coventry ranked 12th in the UK.
The city has its own train station and bus and taxi services so you can travel to anywhere within the UK. It is rich in culture and heritage, with all the modern day attractions and comforts that you could ever ask for.

COVENTRY COLLEGE HAS FANTASTIC MODERN FACILITIES AND STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT
City Campus opened its new building in 2008 and Henley Campus had a complete refurbishment in March 2014.
Once inside both of our campuses you will experience our fantastic modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment.
We have over a dozen workshops, dance studios, IT suites, sports pitches, hair and beauty salons, a sports hall and a fitness centre. We even have learning hubs for private study and for you to borrow books
and use other practical and online resources.
The College also has range of restaurants, canteens, coffee bars and common rooms available and the fitness centre, hair and beauty salons are available for you to use.
The College is a state-run, non-profit, public college and we pride ourselves on having high quality English courses that are British Council accredited without being expensive.
About us
COVENTRY COLLEGE WAS FORMED IN AUGUST 2017 FROM A MERGER BETWEEN THE CITY’S TWO LEADING COLLEGES – CITY COLLEGE COVENTRY AND HENLEY COLLEGE COVENTRY.
BETWEEN US WE HAVE BEEN DELIVERING LEARNING AND TRAINING SINCE THE EARLY 1800’S.
DURING THE SUMMER SCHOOL, STUDENTS CAN CHOOSE TO STAY IN EN-SUITE RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION LOCATED IN THE CITY CENTRE.
Our host families can offer you reasonable rates with half board catering. There is Wi-Fi and weekly laundry included in the price.
During Summer School you can choose to stay in purpose- built student accommodation, that is situated in the City Centre. Facilities include; en-suite, self-catering and Wi-Fi. This option is particularly popular with our student groups and staff who are accompanying them.
Are you under 18?
We are currently able to accept 16-18 year olds on our EFL courses. However, please note that outside class you are not formally supervised and it is assumed that your parents have given consent to this arrangement once you have signed and submitted your application form.
We can also accept 14-16 years olds on the condition that you are accompanied by staff members within an organised group.
Our accommodation
ACCOMMODATION THROUGHOUT THE YEAR IS PROVIDED AS HOMESTAY. WE CAREFULLY SELECT LOCAL FAMILIES TO ENABLE YOU TO EXPERIENCE THE LOCAL CULTURE FIRST-HAND AND DEVELOP LASTING FRIENDSHIPS WITH YOUR LANDLADY OR HOST FAMILIES.

During your time with us you will study 15 hours of English, have two memorable trips and one full day weekend excursion per week.
Our English language programme is made up of the following elements:
Core studiesIn these classes you will learn speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Language activitiesIn these classes you will concentrate on different language activities to support the core course. This will include vocabulary expansion, pronunciation, grammar, writing and communication skills.
Integrated skillsIn these classes you will spend an optional three hours per week improving your skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
You will do this by examining a theme of general interest, such as jobs and employment, newspapers and the media and others. You will also learn practical skills, such as preparing a CV writing business letters, preparing for an interview and making presentations.
TutorialYou will spend this session with your personal tutor who will discuss your progress, provide guidance and set targets.

You can choose to study 15, 18 or 21 hours of English per week. The rest of the time you are able to experience Coventry and explore the UK in the holiday periods.

IELTS Preparation CourseThis course will focus on the 4 components of IELTS: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.
You will build the skills necessary for the rigours of IELTS.
You will receive exam practice including timed exercises to help you improve your chances of reaching your goal.

The History and Culture of Coventry
• Legend has it that the city was the birthplace of St. George, dragon slayer and patron saint of England.
• Britain’s car industry was founded by Daimler in a disused Coventry cotton mill in 1896.
• William Shakespeare was said to have jilted a Coventry woman on the eve of their wedding to marry Anne Hathaway.
• Coventry has 26 twin towns and cities, including Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad), Dresden and Jinan in China.
• George Eliot lived and went to school in Coventry. Life in the city around 1830 was the model for Middlemarch, her most famous novel.
• All modern bicycles are descended from John Kemp Starley’s Rover safety cycle, invented in Coventry in 1885.
• The city was the birthplace of jet pioneer Sir Frank Whittle, the poet Philip Larkin and the pop impresario Pete Waterman.
• Warwick Arts Centre, the biggest complex of its kind outside London, is in Coventry, at the University of Warwick.
• Coventry has two universities (Warwick and Coventry) and three cathedrals - the ruins of St. Mary’s, destroyed by Henry VIII, the ruins of St. Michael’s, blitzed in November 1940 and Sir Basil Spence’s new cathedral, consecrated in 1962 and recently voted Britain’s most popular 20th century building.
• The phrase ‘sent to Coventry’ originated during the English Civil War, when captured Royalists were imprisoned in the heavily fortified and strongly pro-Parliament city. They were given a hard time by the local people.
• Coventry Transport Museum has the biggest collection of British made cars, motorcycles and bicycles in the world.
