Introduction and background

• The cartridge itself is not a water meter in sense of the MID, but merely aassembly group, which is manufactured in a conformity assessment accordingmodule D or H1 respectively.

• Lateron the selfcontained cartridge will be mounted in a housing to a completemeter by qualified and educated installer.

4

A conformity can only be declared by a manufacturer for acomplete meter!

3.8 cartridge metertype of water meter fitted into a closed conduit by means of an intermediate fitting called a connection interface.NOTE The inlet and outlet passages of the meter and the connection interface are either concentric or axial as detailed in EN 14154-2:2005+A2:2011, Annex B.3.9 cartridge meter connection interfacepipefitting specific to the connection of an axial or concentric cartridge meter

5.6.1 Instructions for the installation of cartridg e meters

Follow the installation instructions of the manufacturer without exception at all times. In the case of them not being available the following principles shall be adhered to:a) use exclusively original sealing rings / gaskets as supplied by manufacturer together with the meters;b) remove old gaskets immediately after old cartridge meters have been removed;c) check the relevant sealing surfaces and clean them if necessary in order to make sure the sealing is

functioning correctly and that there is no internal bypass leak leading to incorrect measurements;d) check new seals before applying them taking the positioning instructions of the manufacturer into

account;e) check that cartridge meters match the connection interfaces they are supposed to be fitted into;

EN 14154-1:2005+A2:2011

8

e) check that cartridge meters match the connection interfaces they are supposed to be fitted into;f) using on installation other seals than the ones provided by the manufacturer like tape etc. as well as

applying grease as lubrication for threaded connections shall be avoided;g) if gaskets need to be lubricated make sure at all times that you use a lubricant approved for the material

of the gasket as well as for its contact with potable water only;h) the interchange of cartridge meters should only be undertaken by trained people.

5.6.2 Unequivocal coding of cartridge meters and th eir related connection interfaces

Unequivocal coding of cartridge meters and their related connection interfacesConnection interfaces and related cartridge meters have to be marked with an identical code as defined in Annex B. That code has to be checked prior to installing cartridge meters into their related connection interfaces:a) on cartridge meters the code shall be marked on the surface;b) on the connection interfaces the code shall be visible after removal of the cartridge

meter;

meter;c) the code shall be indelible;d) code for cartridge meters maximum XXX alphanumer ical;e) the codes have to be laid down in either the relevant EC-type examination certificates or EC-design examination certificates

Summery and outlook

To use the measuring cartridge/metrological module in compliance to the MID, we must consider the following points:

How can we ensure that the measuring cartridge + housing (+ head-/screwring) are mounted properly and with the right interface identification?

• We need to sensitize the customer / installer for the correct usage

18

• We need to sensitize the customer / installer for the correct usage• We need to educate and certify our customers/installers and take them into

the responsibility.• We need to supervise and audit the installers• A conformity can only be declared by a manufacturer for a complete meter!

Thanks for your attentation
