2. Before Startup2.1 Physical InstallationSetupyournetworkasshowninthesetupdiagrambelow

1.Use standard LAN cables to connect PCs to the Switching Hub ports on theXRT-501, or you can directly connect PCs to XRT-501, you may use 10Base-T,100Base-TX, or 1000Base-T connections, and all connection types can be usedsimultaneously.

2.If required, connect any port to a normal port on another Hub, using a stan-dard LAN cable.Any LANport on theXRT-501will automatically functionas an“Uplink”portwhenrequired.

3.Connect the DSL or Cable modem to the WAN port on the XRT-501. Use thecable supplied with your DSL/Cable modem. If no cable was supplied, use astandardcable.

4.ConnectthesuppliedPowerAdapterandpoweron.

5.ChecktheLEDs

l ThePowerLEDshouldbeON.

l StatusLEDshouldflash,andthenturnoff.If itstayson,there isahardwareerror.

l ForeachLANconnection,oneof theLAN LEDs(10,100,or1000)shouldbeON(providedthePCisalsoON.)

l Oneof theWANLEDs(10,100,or1000)shouldbeON,providedtheBroad-bandmodemispoweredup.

2.2 ConfigurationThen,youneed to setupyour LANPCclients, so that it canobtainan IPaddressautomatically.Bydefault theXRT-501’sDHCPserver isenabled,soyoucanobtainanIPaddressautomatically.

Note

PleasemakesurethattheXRT-501’sDHCPserveristheonlyDHCPserver available on your LAN. If there is another DHCP on yournetwork,thenyou’llneedtoswitchoneoftheDHCPserversoff.

OnceyourPChasobtainedanIPaddress fromyourrouter,pleasestartyourWebBrowser.IntheAddressbox,enterhttp://192.168.0.1,andthenpress<enter>

The login screen below will appear. Enter the “User Name” and “Password” andthenclick<OK>tologin.

Note

By default, the user name and password both are “admin”. Forsecurity reasons it is recommendedtochangethepasswordat thefirstloginandmemorizeit.

3. Quick InstallationThis section intends to help you setup the XRT-501 as fast as possible. Thesetup includes Wizard setup, and different type of Internet connection. For moreinformation about the settings, please also refer to the user’s manual in thesuppliedCD-ROM.

In the SetupWizard you are required to fill in only the information necessary toaccesstheInternet.OnceyouclickontheWizard,youwillseethescreenbelow.

Step1) Choose your ISP typeIn this section you have to select one of these types of connections that youwillbeusingtoconnectyourXRT-501’sWANporttoyourISP(seescreenbelow).

Note

Different ISP’s require different methods of connecting to theInternet, please check with your ISP as to the type of connectionitrequires.

Parameter Description

3.1CableModem YourISPwillautomaticallygiveyouanIPaddress.

3.2DSL/ADSLYour ISP requires you to use an xDSL over Ethernetconnection.

3.3TelstraBigpondCable

ForTelstraBigPond(Australia)useonly.

3.4SingTelRAS ForSingTelRAS(Singapore)use.

3.5OtherYou can directly to setup the ISP type with Specified(Fixed)orDynamicIPAddress

Click on one of the WAN types and then proceed to the manual’s relevant sub-section (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 or 3.5). Click on Back to return to the previousscreen.

3.1 Cable modem (TV-style cable)ChooseCableModemifyou’reISPwillautomaticallygiveyouanIPaddress.SomeISP’smayalso require that youfill in additional information suchasMACaddress(seescreenbelow).

Parameter Description

HostName SomeISP’smayalsorequireyoutouseaparticularHostname,Domain name, or MAC (physical) address. If required, pleaseenterHostname,DomainnameprovidedbyyourISP.DomainName

CloneMACAddress

Use “Clone MAC address” button to copy the MAC (physical)addressfromyourPCtotheXRT-501.

MAC(physical)Address

Your ISP may require a particular MAC address in order foryou to connect to the Internet. This MAC address is the PC’sMAC address that your ISP had originally connected yourInternetconnectionto.TypeinthisMACaddressinthissectionorusetheCloneMACAddressbuttontoreplacetheWANMACaddresswiththeMACaddressofthatPC(youhavetobeusingthatPCfortheCloneMACAddressbuttontowork).

Note

TheMACaddresssectionisoptionalandyoucanskipthissectionifyour ISPdoesnot require thesesettings foryou toconnect to theInternet.

3.2 DSL/ADSL modem (phone-type cable)In this section you have to select one of these DSL/ADSL types that you will beusingtoconnectyourXRT-501’sWANporttoyourISP(seescreenbelow).

Parameter Description

3.2.1PPPoEYourISPrequiresyoutouseaPoint-to-PointProtocoloverEthernet(PPPoE)connection.

3.2.2PPTPYour ISP requires you to use a Point-to-Point TunnelingProtocol(PPTP)connection.

3.2.3L2TPLayer2TunnelingProtocolisacommonconnectionmethodusedinxDSLconnections.

3.2.4Dynamic YourISPwillautomaticallygiveyouanIPaddress.

3.2.1 PPPoESelect Dial-Up xDSL (PPPoE) if you’re ISP requires the PPPoE protocol to connectyou to the Internet. Your ISP should provide all the information required in thissection.

Parameter Description

UserNameEnter the User Name provided by your ISP for the PPPoEconnection.

Password Enter the Password provided by your ISP for the PPPoE

Connectbehavior

Select the connection behaviors that you wish it be toAutomaticConnect,ManualConnect,orKeepalive.

Auto-disconnectTimeoutperiod

You can specify an idle time threshold (minutes) for the WANport. Thismeans if no packets have been sent (no one usingthe Internet) during this specified period, the router willautomaticallydisconnecttheconnectionwithyourISP.

3.2.2 PPTPSelectPPTP ifyour ISP requires thePPTPprotocol toconnectyou to the Internet.YourISPshouldprovidealltheinformationrequiredinthissection.

Parameter Description

PPTPServerSpecify PPTP Server Name or IP address that you want toconnectto.

LoginUserName

Enter the User Name provided by your ISP for the PPTPconnection.

Enter the Password provided by your ISP for the PPTPconnection.

Step2) DNSA Domain Name System (DNS) server is like an index of IP addresses and Webaddresses. IfyoutypeaWebaddress intoyourbrowser,suchaswww.router.com,aDNS serverwill find that name in its index and thematching IP address.MostISPs provide a DNS server for speed and convenience. If your Service Providerconnects you to the Internet with dynamic IP settings, it is likely that the DNSserverIPaddress isprovidedautomatically.However, if there isaDNSserverthatyouwouldratheruse,youneedtospecifytheIPaddressofthatDNSserverhere.

Step3) Test Internet Connection

Select “Test Internet Connection”, and then click <Finish> when you havefinished the configuration above. It will run the test and check the Internetconnectioncanbeestablishedornot.

Congratulations! You have completed the connection configuration after testsuccessful,andnowyoucanstartusingtherouter.
