INTERNSHIPPROGRESS
REPORTPRESENTATION
My Opinion Thus Far• Different than I thought
• Lots of hands on experience
• Learning a lot
• Figuring out I’m not as good at some things as I thought
• Getting better at many skills I considered myself to already have
Skills I’ve Been Improving:
• Multi-tasking skills
• Time management skills
• Computer skills (Excel, Outlook)
• Social media skills (Twitter)
• Note taking
• Research
What I’ve Learned• Marketing is not just getting
your name out there to as many people as possible in an attention-grabbing way.
-It’s getting the right messages out to the right audiences, so what you say “resonates.”
What I’ve Learned (continued…)• Social media practices:-The time of day that you post matters-Where to insert links in posts-Importance of hash tags on Twitter
• Webpage practices:-How to incorporate tags -Blog is the best way to drive traffic to site (by always putting in new
content).
• Marketing tactics:-Touchpoint Calendars-Press Releases-Speaking Engagements-Web pages-Social media-Direct mailers
What I’ve Learned (continued…)
• A lot of random information about different companies, industries, and economic opportunities.
-Roofing (Division 7)
-Online staff scheduling (eWeb Schedule)
-Nonprofits (Proctor)
-Utica Shale
Experience I Still Want
• Writing press releases
• Copywriting
• More interaction with clients (still feel kind of uncomfortable and want to overcome that)
I Still Want to Learn…
• The how and why of the marketing process.
(I see it in action, but I’d like it to be explained)
Examples:
“This is why we do this…”
“This is how we go about doing that…”
My Biggest Surprises• B2B Marketing is not “sexy.”-Very methodical and formulaic. -Not slogans and funny ads, it’s touch point calendars,
informational direct mailers, etc
• How much detail goes into everything.-Wording (Example: “Ground-zero.”)-Design
My Personal Review
-Working hard, putting in lots of hours, meeting all deadlines, turning out quality work, always on time (if not early), can-do mentality, but…
STILL ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT:Have more potential than just meeting expectations and doing projects
that are assigned to me.
I plan to:-Get faster at the work I’m given-Go from a “can-do” to a “go getter” mentality-Use my talent to shine on several projects I wish to take on in my
down time (marketing MW, MW social media, creative work for Candle Lab)
Your Input:• Feedback?
-What I’m doing right…
-What I’m doing wrong…
• Advice?
-What you wish someone would have told you when you first started here…
