COMPANY PROFILE
Santhome Latex is a partnership firm registered under the partnership act. The firm came into
existence on the 28th
of April 1991. The partners of the firm are members of the reputedKarikattuparambil family in Kottayam, Kerala, an ancient and aristocratic business family,
who are financially very sound and are prominent rubber planters and industrialists in Kerala.
The primary objective is to manufacture and market technically specified natural rubber.
The firm began its business by purchasing a crumb rubber plant in edmury. This unit
manufacturers CENTRIFUGE LATEX(cenex) ,ISNR 20 and is a SSI unit and has an
installed capacity of 5 MT per day. The factory along with 6.4 acres were acquired by
promoters and is currently owned by the firm.
The unit is currently running on a single shift basis and has 10 centrifuging machine. The plinth area of the factory building is 749M2. The centrifuge factory which was established
in1991 was set up to suit the industrial& technical environment more than a decade ago.
Several technological advances, labour shortage and increased fuel price have made it
necessary to modify the manufacturing setup of the unit in order to make it capable of
producing cost effective products of sufficiently large volumes with optimum employment of
labour.
The promoters of the firm belong to the Karikattuparambil family. They are well established
businessmen who have promoted M/s Santhome Latex with a combined turnover of Rs.200
Cr per annum. They are the largest producer of Cenex in the state and market their productsto several large manufacturing and trading concerns both within and outside the country. The
managing partner and promoter of this unit was Joy Kallarackal(LATE), He has more than 2
decades of experience in the rubber industry. He is assisted by Arun Joy who is presently the
managing director also very competent in business and an able and enterprising businessman.
The promoters have created assets more than 20Crs. Hence they are entrepreneurs of proven

PRODUCTS
CENTRIFUGE LATEX:
It is an unvulcanised double centrifuged natural rubber latex showing very low levels of water
extractable proteins. Due to its characteristics this latex can especially be used for the
production of medical articles made in a dipping process. CENEX is available in bulk with
tankcontainers or tanklorries.
LA LATEX:
(Low Ammonia Latex) The ammonia content of LA Latex is not exceeding 0.29% on
latex . Low ammonia – LA-TZ can replace HA latex in all normal latex appications, with
a little adjustment in compounding in certain cases. LA-TZ is preserved with
0.2 ammonia together with a suitable combination of zinc oxide (ZnO) and
tetramethylthiuramdisulphide (TMTD) of not more than 0.1% in total, based on latex
weight.
SKIM CREPE:
Crepe is a crinkly lace rubber, obtained when coagulated latex or any form of field coagulum
(tree lace, shell scrap, and earth scrap etc.) is passed several times through heavy rolls called
crepers and the resultant material air dried at ambient temperature. There are different types
of crepe rubber depending upon the type of starting materials from which they are produced.
RUBBER SHEET-RSS4:
Ribbed smoked sheets are used in various industries due to their variety in the requirements
on cleanliness and tear strength of the sheets. There are five major grades: RSS 1 to RSS 5.
The difference in the grades is the result of the preparation of the coagulated field latex
during the production of the Unsmoked Sheets. The sheets are selected and smoked at a
controlled timing and temperature window to ensure that they are properly smoked without
causing negative impact on the rubber properties.
RSS grades still depend heavily on visual inspection, thus, there is a high probability of
inconsistency in grading. Therefore, Thai Hua established a training program for our
inspectors with periodic cross checks for their grading level to ensure that all our factory
individuals are in sync.

JOB DESCRIPTION(8 WEEKS WORK SUMMARY)
The first week was spent in the office getting to know more about the dealings of the
company and sales processes involved. My stint in the company started off in the sales
department with an introduction to the company and prevailing market conditions.
I keenly studied the work strategies adopted by the employees. I had a small demo on sale of
rubber in the market.
Later on I was taught to classify and differentiate the type of rubber and categorise it
according to pre-determined standards.
In the course of time I was taken to the manufacturing plant. It gave me an insight into how
latex is processed. The whole process of centrifuging became more clear to me.
The company has a very strong client base. It was the latex that was centrifuged using
centrifuging machine and made ready to be packed and transported to the buyers.
I got a insight into the whole centrifuging process.
Later on I started on with marketing job, my main requirement was to find prospective buyers
and give them a brief introduction of the company and to explain the clients about various
rubber products available.
Later it was my turn to do the enquiries in the market. It included getting quotations from
probable buyers. It was on the fourth week the internship I started getting queries from
prospective buyers. Since Santhome Latex is a well reputed firm, it was very easy for me to
convince the buyers.
On the fifth week I received a quotation from a well reputed company using rubber products,
my job was to contact the stock keeping department and find out if the tonnage mentioned in
the quotation was available. The required tonnage was readily available and I had to forward
the quotation to the Sales manager who then decided on the future dealings. During the
course of next three weeks more than a dozen quotations were received.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE
I have chosen this project in the field of sales so that I could understand some basics of it.
I have learnt immensely not only about sales but also of marketing strategies on a whole and
my knowledge has grown to a great extent.
I have learnt to work in a team and understood what it takes to be a team player and
individuality should be respected and learnt that every person is special in his own way. I
have learnt to communicate better in terms of business and understood the hierarchy levels in
an organization.

FINDINGS
Santhome Latex has a very good client base. Perfection in the work performed and propertime management has helped Santhome Latex to maintain its client base and also add new
ones as well.
One of the most important finding which I made was that marketing is a very essential part of
sales, without which the entire sales process is incomplete.
Reputation of the company matters a lot in rubber trade. Processing of rubber is a very
complex process and working in such a work environment is a great boost to ones career.

CONCLUSION
My period in the company helped me to understand its functioning in its retail division and
opened my eyes to view current practices that are being followed by the company. I believe
Travancore Crump industries have laid the foundation to life beyond that of a student. It gives
me immense pleasure to be associated with an organization like Santhome Latex, even
though it was for a very short period of two months.
Given a chance I would like to be associated with Travancore Crumb Industries.
Lastly I would like to thank Santhome Latex an it’s staff for giving me a wonderful time
during the two months of internship.
