Interrelationships in the sport industry

Professional sportSport retail

Page 2: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

• An example of an interrelationship would be the human body

• Each of the system is responsible for a major function in the body.

• All systems are linked together and disruption to one system can have serious effects on other systems.

• the human body has different systems that are linked together these are like the different sporting components that work together , and if one of them was to lose interest or become unsuccessful the other component would not do so well and this would affect it in a way.

Introduction• Interrelationships are two or more things that are linked.

Professional sport / sports medicine

Page 4: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

How they benefit each other?

• If the amount of professional sportsmen decreases or were less then they were (which is about 30,000) then the sports medicine industry would decrease too , because there would be less people to get injured.

• but if the sport medicine industry were to improve or then professional sports injury's would be less , due to the better medicine and injury preventions

• During the Premiship season, there were a total of 256 injuries which resulted in time lost from participation. 154 injuries were minor, 67 were moderate, and 35 were classified as serious. With advances in sport medicine then there would be less injury's and quicker recovery time.

Page 5: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

Do these areas encourage joint use?

• A professional sport club don’t advertise sport medicine or promote that certain company they don’t sell there services or goods that work with the club with the sports medicine.

• sports medicine company's don’t advertise a club if they work with them , but they may use that status by using there name to get well known and or convince client that they are good.

Page 6: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

What has been the impact of the two components working together?• The impact of these two components

working together would be that though improvements of sports medicine that players are staying fitter for longer and getting less injury's per season.

• in 2009 there were a 67 injury's in the premier league , which were less then the year before when there was 47

• Although the impact of players staying fitter for longer and getting less injury's would result in the sports medicine industry not being needed as much to rehabilitate players that have suffered injury's.

Page 7: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

When did this relationship first become common place• An example of when this interrelationship had taken place

would be when in 1973 when Sam Allardyce became a manager and encouraged the use of all types of sports medicine.

• This was very successful in doing this because in 2006 Bolton finished 6th in the premier league and qualified for uefa Europa league. This is a point to support the fact that sport medicine in pro sport makes it more enjoyable and more successful.

Page 8: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

Summary• In conclusion sports medicine and professional sport have

impacts on each other , but in the long run there is not huge impacts.

• if sports medicine was not as effective then pro sport would suffer with more injury's and not be as successful , but it does not work in the other had , because if pro sport was less successful then sports medicine would still go on and be as effective due to the mass number of other squads that they can work with .

Professional sports/sport related gambling

Page 10: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

How do they benefit each other?• Sports gambling is benefited by professional sport , if there is a

very big game for example the world cup final , then they give out good odds to draw the customer in and then they make money of it .

• On the other hand if more people start betting on sports then that is not a direct impact on professional sport , this could be because if lots of people start losing on bets on sport then that wont want to keep gambling.

Page 11: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

What has been the impact of these two components working together

• The impact from these two components working together are that the gambling industry has improved because of the more outlets that re being built. In lots of different places e.g stadiums.

• Although there are more shops being built in stadiums , certain company's have not don’t so well as you can see from the table .

Page 12: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

How do they encourage joint use• A way in which pro sport and sports gambling encourage each

other would be that in pro sports stadiums now have gambling outlets within the stadiums . This it a clear point that encourage gambling.

• Sport gambling does not encourage professional sport , the gambling company's don’t have a direct impact , because they don’t do such things like advertise and endorse pro sport.

Page 13: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

When did the interrelationship first become common place.• was Intertops.com made history in 1996 when they accepted

the first online sports bet and followed up that feat in 2001 by accepting the first mobile bet. Below is some evedence on how there company has grown.

Page 14: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

History of sports betting and professional sport.

• Since betting shops were re-legalised on May 1, 1961, it is estimated that 65billion wagers have been placed in Britain's 8,500 venues.

• The industry currently contributes £3billion a year to the economy and employs 40,000 staff.

Sports spectating /sport retail

Page 16: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

How do they benefit each other?• Also if sport spectating watch's there team and they do really

well then those spectator will buy there teams shirt because they are so successful.

• Sports spectating benefits retail more , sport stadiums normally have retail outlets on there premises, they do this because on game day the supports might want to buy there teams kit to show there support.

Page 17: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

How do they impact each other?• They impact each other in the way of that if the sport

spectating level went up and were to increase for one reason or another , then the sales in the stadium show and other sporting outlets would increase for example with the success of man city this season in the premier league there kit sales would have increased.

• On average they sale 40,000 per season and they indorse all there sales back into the club.

Page 18: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

How do they encourage joint use?• sport spectating encourage joint use in the way that sport

spectators where the kit of that team. In this way that is how they encourage joint use.

• Also sports retail shops like JMS rugby , did advertise the new Zealand rugby world cup. This is an example of the fact that they did advertise sport spectating.

Page 19: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

History of sports spectating and sport retail• There were no uniform kits: players would turn out in

whatever they had to hand and teams would be distinguished by wearing distinctively coloured caps, scarves or sashes over cricket whites (many clubs were formed by cricketers seeking a team game for the winter) or whatever else players had to hand. The first reference to "colours" comes from the rules of Sheffield FC in 1857, which stated:

• "Each player must provide himself with a red and dark blue flannel cap, one colour to be worn by each side

Page 20: Interrelationship in the Sport Industry

conclusion• In conclusion professional sport and sport medicine work

together very well , with medicine helping players play longer and better creating a better sporting environment , this would show that this is a very good successful component.

• Professional sport and sport related gambling is a one sided , being that sports gambling relays on pro sport , so that they can show the games and collect money from spectaters , but if sport gambling was to fail then it would not really have a a massive impact on sports teams because they still would perform normally.

• and sport retail is a very balanced interrelationship being that they both need each other to survive , because with each other then they would not be as successful.
