INTERTEXTUALITY It is the shaping of a text’s meaning by another

text. Its creates an interrelation between the texts. It’s a way that similar and related texts influence in such a way that they reflect and differ from each other to produce meanings. Its mainly a relationship between the texts. Types of intertextuality are:

HOMAGE Its an expression of a high regard/respect for

a legend or a well known celebrity. It can be a tribute and is done to honor or admire someone or something. An example of this type of Music video is “Material Girl- Madonna” in which she is dressed up and acting as Marilyn Monroe the same way she did in her own video “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” shown in the following screenshots.

Madonna is dressed exactly like her and have the same hairstyle, jewellery and she is wearing the same kind of attire like Marliyn Monroe which shows a clear example of Homage. They both are holding a black hand fan.

Men in this video are wearing black suits holding red hearts as shown in Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

PARODY Parody is a work which is created to imitate

and make fun of an original text, work, composition, literature, style, content or author in an amusing way or for a comic/humorous effect. An example of Parody is “Man, I feel like a women- Shania Twain” is parodied from “Addicted to your love- Robert Palmer”.

Addicted to your love Man I feel like a women- Same background is shown in both the screenshots. The person on front are holding the mike and are performing while people at the back are holding guitars. Both the videos have 4 people at the back. The only difference is that they are replaced in such a way that in boy’s place in the front holding the mike, they have shown a girl and in the girl’s place they have shown boys at the back

CALQUE Calque in a video means that another

culture, some words(language) is shown in a music video. Calque in music videos relates the music video to any other culture for example “Lean on- Dj Snake ft. Major Lazer”. Calque is shown in such a way that indian culture is shown as the girls in the video are wearing sari dress which is an Indian cultured dress for girls as shown in the screenshots:

HYBRIDITY This is something of Mixed Origin or

composition and something having two kinds of components that show the same or similar results for instance there’s a music video in which old era is shown as well as the new era too. Its mainly the blending of cultures and traditions. It is also very hard to decide that which social class is being represented.

BRICOLAGEBricolage media is a creation of a new

media from a diverse or a large range of available things and are combined and are used to form a new media with a very different style.

TRANSLATIONThis is when the narrative of any media

is changed into another form of media. It is a conversion of something form of medium to another.

PASTICHE Pastiche is a work which imitates a work of

another artist, media, style and work etc.
