INTERVIEW WITH THEDIRECTOR OF THEEDUCATE SLOVAKIA TRILOGYCould you introduce yourself to our readers a little bit?

My name is Vladimír Blažek. I was born in Čadca and grew up in Žilina. I have studied Marketing and Management in Business in Banská Bystrica. I have been working in AIESEC for two years. I started my career in the local branch Banská Bystrica. People know my work mostly because of the pilot project called BRIDGE THE CULTURES.

Tell us more about history of Educate Slovakia.

Studio AIESEC SKIA started to be more interested about independent projects that had the same idea or plot we can say. There were not so much different, but the local branches realized them by themselves. There were projects as KEMPELEN, MY WORLD and BRIDGE THE CULTURES that were realized in the beginning of the year 2012 and were successful and people liked them so much.

It was not surprising, because similar projects are well known and successful across the world.

In May-June two branches decided to join and start with Educate Slovakia but in last two minutes they lost 3 actors and project earned itself but did not fulfil the plan that they expected. The critics were average but project still maintained their target group. What will be the film about?

I cannot say too much, but the plot is about young people who will come to Slovakia to educate the kids in schools. The content of the movie picture will be about cultural diversity and breaking the stereotypes and prejudices that we have about international people.

What type of schools? Primary and high schools.

What about the producer of the movie?

This year studio AIESEC SKIA (NDK, Symposium, ToT - another well known projects of the studio) is ran by the new people who called themselves as MC Step Up. I am communicating with Svitlana Kogut (World Without Borders, Act in Ukraine, Green Rush) who is responsible for the project and to inform her colleagues about the development and other stuff.

How are you working with her? We know that directors and producers have often different views on the goals of the films. In the beginning we sat down with Sveta and had long discussions about our visions and goals of the project. We went really detailed and in the end we came to an agreement. We also set the expectations that we have been following from the first day of our cooperation.

I realized that they are expecting a lot from this project. This project should bring 50% of the results in the genre called GCDPi. I feel the responsibility and trust from Sveta.

We have the same goals, but the way I will do it is up to me and this freedom would like every director in the world. So I am really satisfied.

Who is working with you on this project? I am surrounded with really smart and creative people who are giving everything to this project. I am closely cooperating with the screenwriters – Kika Vavrová, Zuzka Medzihradská and Jakub Pajan. There are also skilful cameramen from Banská Bystrica – Peter Varga and Marek Muller and others.

There are rumours that Educate Slovakia should be a trilogy. Is it true? Yes, it is true.

Could you give us more details about this trilogy? I will not tell you much, only that the second part will be more epic and the biggest from the whole trilogy.

Okay. We know the film crew but what about the actors who will be play in this? When is the film shooting of the first part starting? We will start next week from 17th September till 26th October and then the postproduction phase and cutting will start.

When will be the premiere?

The exclusive premiere of the first part will be in the Film festival DARE in the middle of November.
